Title: Bah! Humbug!
Post by: CHIZZY on December 03, 2002, 04:51:40 AM
This is the official "Christmas sucks" thread. Vent your rage at this season of greed & emotional manipulation.

I hate this bullshit! What\'s in it for me? I never get anything I want, and I spend too much money on gifts for people who I don\'t think deserve them. I\'m not religious in any way...so WTF am I doing?!?!?!?!?!

ahhh... I feel a little better now...

You say vent your rage at this season of greed & emotional manipulation.

Then you show the same greed and emotional manipulation by saying what\'s in it for me? I never get anything I want.

Your penance will be watching It\'s a Wonderful Life ten times.

I like Christmas. I like giving gifts to my family. :)

But I\'m not into it for the gifts; I simply love the atmosphere.

BTW, it would suck to celebrate Christmas in Australia... I mean, they have sun all the time in December. Christmas is supposed to be cold, have long winter nights and the occasional snow. :p

I liked X-mass in AU.  I spent X-mass 99 in Jervis Bay south of wollongong. Got up early on the 25:th and went surfing at spot called "caves" and after that, I got to see what a aussie xmass all about. Really nice... but not the same as home.

I agree with Samwise..

I like Christmas more because of the atmosphere, the presents are just a bonus. Its also nice to have the whole family in the house again. :)

The first snow (http://w1.480.telia.com/~u48019550/sno1.jpg) fell a few weeks ago.. But now its gone :(

Oh and Christmas is on the 24th, not 25th as some stupid people think :p

Well I hope Gotalnd (swedens own jamica) is white at X-mas, becasue thats where I will be !

As kid and even now with my nieces and nephews we open our gifts on Christmas eve. It\'s always been like that in our family.

If Gotland is jamica then Öland must be our own little sahara island. ;) Öland has the most sun hours overall during the summer (damn.. I want a sommarstuga there)

you know for a "small" fee you could hire out space within a "de-mobed" (de-mobed= no longer in Military use)  nuclear bunker here in the UK and sit out the festive period ...totaly sealed off from all things Xmasy ;)

how dose that sound ?

i mean for a few more $$$$$ you could even press the big red button and make Half of  Canada Vanish ;)

I guess my family kinda bums me out. Even though they\'re not that old, (both around 50)they are always ill. All I hear about is how "this hurts, that is acting up, I went to the doctors again and I need this operation..."etc... I honestly think they do it for attention. They also kinda give crappy presents, like the jar-jar binks pillowcases I got last year. They can\'t seem to figure out that while I may have been a star wars fan, I am also going to be 30 in March. I bought them a decent stereo 2 years ago, and a SONY DVD player last year. So if I\'m gonna sit around getting drunk,  I\'d rather spend the $300 I was gonna use for presents on beer. It\'s kinda crappy of me, I know... I just can\'t wait for it to be over. Maybe if I had kids it would be fun...

I\'m feeling kind of sad for you CHIZZY. I\'ve had my share of crappy presents myself. The way I look at it is that I am old enough now so that I can afford just about anything I want within reason. I have a far better time giving people great gifts than receiving.

Ace, I usually feel the same way, but this year, I honestly could not care less. I also buy just about anything I really want myself. But my family is on my nerves, my GF is spoiled rotten as it is. (plus, as you might remember, she\'s on my shit list for cracking up my new truck...)

BTW kurt, I threw them out the window of my truck 2 blocks from their house last year!  ;)

Christmas is alright for me. Grandparents seem to think I\'m still a kid so they get me kiddy things. I\'d rather have money, a game or something like that. Hell I still get Hess trucks. They\'ll be collectible in some years though so I\'m not complaining ;)

Best thing about Christmas are the few days before it.... The worst thing is Dec. 26th.

Thanks for the avatar comment Ace, Gene Simmons rocks! (He\'s much cooler than his brother Richard).;)

Me too, and on New years day :(

Christmas is great, this year wont be as good as normal tho, cos for the last 5 I\'ve had a girlfriend, but theres none of that this year. Preasents are ok, but I just really like the atmosphere, I just dont think this year will be as good tho, I\'m looking forward to it, but to be honest, I\'m not really that bothered

Christmas is the dogs bollox.

You can NEVER have too many pairs of socks, drink too much cheap brandy/whiskey, eat too much dry turkey, and receive too many crappy woolley jumpers knitted by you aunt.

Plus, it brings me endless joy talking to those relatives I never get to see for the rest of the year about "what a liitle rascal my Dad was when he was a nipper", and "Oooooooh, hasn\'t he grown, how old are you now? 19?", and then my Dad, after staggering from the pub on christmas day afternoon says "You lot don\'t know you\'re born..... in my day, all we used to get for christmas was an orange, some conkers, a hula hoop, a christmas cracker, and a paper hat.

Oh, yes, you can\'t beat christmas, you should come round and meet my family Chiz, you\'ll fit in a treat.

the christmas vibe 0wnz!  But since they start it so damn early nowadays, it looses it specialness around a week before Christmas.  Luckily this year T-Giving came late, so maybe I won\'t get burnt out before the holiday comes.

I bet powerranger action figure\'s are topping your list this holiday season. Who the **** let a 12 year old in this "semi-mature" forum?

I think Christmas rules: although it is WAY to commercial. I was reading in a local magazine: only 60% of children at 4 elementary schools, and 1 middle school knew the real meaning of Christmas.
Dear God... :(
