The battles were of epic proportion! Gollum\'s facial expressions and acting were brilliant! The Ents were...good. :) THE SHORTEST 3 hours and 20 minutes ever!
I saw it twice already. I\'m going to bed. Tired. And thirsty from all the hot dogs and popcorn.
We\'re tired, my precious! Must gets our rest, my precious! Ticksy little Hobbits.... :p

Nerd

I believe the fighting in ROTK will be SPETACULAR SPETACULAR! :nerd:
Can\'t. Wait. :)
BTW, I don\'t think TTT is the greatest movie ever made, but it certainly is a great movie experience.
-
I saw it last night. Excellent, it lived up to and surpassed my expectations. I was severely impressed with Gollum and the Ents.
:alien:

Mods : can you please add " : SPOILER" to the subject heading? Thank you.
[sp]I didn\'t quite like the Faromir part. He didn\'t want to take Frodo to the King....he didn\'t want the Ring for Gondor, either. He was the opposite of his brother, Boromir. Anyway....a small deviation but the movie was quite excellent nonetheless.[/sp]
I added the [SP] tags. Learn how to use them. :p -Sammy[/size]

Hope to see it the next saturday ;)

tru dat it was amazing how lifelike he was and the guy who did his voice did a great job is it possible to nominate an animated character an oscar or will they give them an oscar for best special effects based souly off of him
-
They\'re going for it, apparently. Meaning the LOTR team is going to campain for nominating the first CG character for Best Supporting Actor.
-
They expect a billion dollars from Two Towers alone!

SPOLER
The ents was amazing, I just love their way of slow thinking, then suddenly in matter of seconds they can decide to do something totaly different then what they planned for 3 days :)
-
i hope they dont nominate that golum for any award. it did jus t good acting.
waht is a ent? is it that trees?
-
They are the shepards of the trees. Older than the firstborn. (the elves...)

I dont understand
Are they the trees or the elves that helped them at helms deep?
-
The ents are ents.... They\'re sorta like walking trees. Very strong and powerful when they want to be. In the book it tells of them cracking boulders and casually crumbling the walls of ornthanc as if it were a cookie.
-
They were the tree like creatures. The ones that talked really slowly, and looked after the trees.
-
Yes I know those those are the ents hmmm
It was funny watching that one that was on fire jump into the water lol
I wonder what is going to happen to that white wizard whos empire they destroyed.
-
well, if you\'re not planning on reading the books, I won\'t spoil it for you... ;)

I\'ve seen those books...VERY long. I cant imagine all 3 in one. Tolkien wanted all 3 in one. No way that would work.
I\'ll watch the movie
But I will probably read Michael Chrichton\'s \'Prey\' something about a plague in a cloud that is mechanical and can learn and think. :scared: Also its not 600 pages long ;)
-
I think LOTR is 1000+ pages, Maybe not including the appendices.
I\'m reading the Silmarillion now, it\'s sort of the Bible of middle earth. It tells how the world was created, and the races of elves & men and their purpose. The problem is, it reads like the bible and every other word is a name of a person or place that looks very similar to the previous name... kinda tiring.
-
Yes, this movie was spectacular!!!:bounce: I\'m gonna have to see it again this weekend...even though i just now finished watching it.
-
Gollum\'s split personality was done to complete perfection. Very well dont movie.
-
i think when all 3 movies are out and are on dvd in 2004 peter jackson should do a re-edit and make one seamless 12 hour movie i think its possible and it would make one hell of a dvd
-
Or make The Hobbit :) Nothing would be better then to see Smaug in action :)
I have been reading all Tolkien books many years ago , several times on norwegian... now Im reading the english version of The Hobbit, after that Im going to continue with the 3 other books, but not sure if Im going to read Silmarillion on english, since it was hard enough reading it on my native language.

But it would occupy more than 3 DVDs... and that\'s what I don\'t like of extended versions: to change the disc in the middle of the film. Perhaps for Fall 2004 there are cheap 80 GB DVDs ;)

Well....why not just get all three sets and watch them back to back? You can\'t fit a 10 hour movie into one DVD. :) Heck, it took two DVD discs for the extended version of Fellowship!
-
i dont care about how many dvds there are just one monster release of all 3 with extended versions

Is anyone else in love with Legolas?

my girlfriend is....
stupid sexy elf...

Well I just saw it and it was breathtaking. Peter Jackson has done a fantastic job, I can\'t believe the movie was so long - I didn\'t realize how long until we left. I didn\'t once look at my watch or get anxious to leave. One of the best movies IHMO ever.

It is a very hard read, though worth it. I would really like to see this made into a movie or a series of movies.

None of you were bothered by the stupid jokes from the dwarf? During the fight the whole counting thing with the elf was stupid. The short jokes were tiring.
This really took a little out of it for me. But on a scale of 1-100 I still give the movie 99.5....
Great movie and it leaves you wanting more. Can\'t say that about many other 3 hour movies.

I am surprised you even mentioned it since it only counted half a point ;)

I\'m guessing you haven\'t read the novel. The counting thing is directly out of the novel, and it\'s one of the coolest things in there. Gimli and Legolas started the story in Fellowship distrusting each other, and then after fighting side by side, a little friendship develops. It\'s one of the more interesting sub plots of the novels. Eventually by the time of the Helm\'s Deep battle, they are able to joke with each other about how many kills they each have. As I recall, Legolas is way ahead, and then he runs out of arrows, so Gimli slowly starts to pull closer.
I enjoyed the little humorous parts they threw in.
-
OK, actually the counting thing didn\'t bother me, but the short jokes got old.
Like when they are up on the wall and he can\'t see anything over it when 4 feet to his right was a gap where he could have scene just fine.
-
goddammit, I gotta stop reading this internet poisoning and go see this fucking movie. You\'ll ruin it for me, I tells ya!

IMO that was the funniest part in the whole movie. That was the loudest I\'ve laughed in a long time. I agree that the short jokes were overdone, but that short joke was by far the funniest. And the other funny parts ([sp]like when the dwarf described what the girl dwarfs looked like, or when the gollum yelled "Fat, stupid hobbit" at the hobbit[/sp]), more than made up for the overdone short jokes.
There was one thing that I really hated in the movie though -- the part where [sp]Legolas slid down the stairs on the shield shooting arrows at the same time.[/sp]
Ugh, it was horrible. It was just so very stupid. Because of that part, I have to give this movie only a 99.5/100 also. :)

[ Spoilers! ]
[sp]
The Two Towers was, simply, amazing. I have been studying the reviews and responces serious Tolkien-purists have given, and it annoys me to see that their views are filled with negativity. They seemingly can not enjoy the movies due to the changes Peter Jackson has made. Crucial, much-needed changes to be exact. Crucial when it comes to the roots of story-telling on silver-screen.
Imagine a verbally perfect, scene-to-scene Lord of the Rings -movie. It would easily take a dozen hours of screen-time per book. A Television Mini-serie could have given Peter the ability to include every scene, but with cost of visual quality, realism ( in terms of weaponry and costumes ), actors and music. One can not create a visually mesmerizing scene such as the Battle of Helm\'s Deep with a mini-serie budget. PJ\'s decision to make a three-movie trilogy was a good one, in my humble opinion, and I am ready to accept every change he has in mind for the Return of the King.
For example, the changes in Faramir\'s character and storyline disturbed many purists and long-time fans. In their ignorancy they didn\'t take Faramir\'s scenes from audience\'s point-of-view. To a Tolkien-virgin audience, suspence had to be built on Frodo\'s and Sam\'s story as well - for it would have been silly to experience two huge climaxes - Helm\'s Deep and the Drowning of Isengard - if they had been intercut by unexciting, peaceful scenery. One thing bothered me though, and it was Frodo\'s encounter with the Nazgul. Simply put, if the Nazgul now knows Frodo is carrying the One Ring, why won\'t Sauron fix his energy into searching for the Ringbearer? In the book, Sauron thought the Ring had been taken to Gondor, and \'thus unleashed his massive armies. He was rather desperate. I believe PJ has written a solution to this dilemma - but until the Return of the King, it will keep bothering me.
The actors were as amazing as they had been all the time. Yet I think Viggo\'s Aragorn grew into epic proportions, while John Rhys-Davies\' Gimli finally got real, rather comical but justified, depth. Orlando\'s Legolas was as good as ever, while Elijah\'s Frodo and Sean Astin\'s Samwise were mind-bogglingly accurate. Ian McKellen\'s Gandalf was beyond describtion. From the new cast I should point out Miranda Otto\'s Eowyn - a wonderful performance, Brad Dourif\'s Grima Wormtongue - just as I always envisioned him - and Bernard Hill\'s Theoden the King - played out as noble and experienced, wise yet quick-minded - just as he should be. Andy Serkis deserves an Oscar, in my humble opinion - but more of Gollum later.
Howard Shore\'s soundtrack was massive - epic - beautiful. After seeing the midnight-premiere of the Two Towers, I instantly decided to buy the soundtrack as a christmas-present - and so I did. I love it to bits - I adore every second of it. It swept the floor with Fellowship\'s already great soundtrack, and made itself into my top 5 most loved movie-music. I remember doubting Shore\'s capabilities about a year and a half ago, but after these two great soundtracks, I praise Jackson for selecting him. A perfect choice.
The Two Towers was mesmerizing, creating cinematic orgasms one after another. Forth Eorlingas - the last desperate charge out of Helm\'s Deep - was perhaps the most epic scene I have ever seen. My heart pounded like a rabbit on speed. But, in the end, it is the characters this movie is based upon. No matter how visually compelling, the small details decide whether the movie is worth a re-watch. And Two Towers certainly is. I already praised the actors I found worthy of praising with the exception of one - Andy Serkis\' performance as the digitally created Gollum.
Holy God of Film-making I can hardly put my feelings into words when it comes to the brilliance of Gollum. He was the only character the film truly improved. To give you the record, I have read Lord of the Rings 7 times. And every time Gollum has been a controversial character. While I never loathed him, I never cared for him either. I always visioned him as a slimy, dark-skinned, yellow-eyed, evil-looking creature. The film gave him blue eyes and cute, light out-look. I love the new twist of Gollum - for he truly struck my emotions. I nearly cried for him. I wanted his Smeagol side to win - even as I know that Smeagol stands no chance against the power of the Ring. Given that Gollum could\'ve been trashed easily, making him the greatest computer-generated character of all time is not a small achievement. Applauses to Andy and Weta Digital. They created a Gollum we can easily approach.
[/sp]
To give you my conclusional score, I give it 9.5/10. While it was wonderful, it is still just one part out of three. I will re-score the whole saga once it is completed. Hopefully you had the energy to read this reply through ;)
[sp tags] supplyed by me ooseven.. welcome back old buddy :D
-
I finally saw it 15 minutes ago.
Wow.
-
Yeah. The ending really leaves you wanting more. Not many 3 hour movies make you want more.
-
I think the major reason for the success of this trilogy is going to be due to the fact that is was all filmed at once. The same can\'t be said for the Star Wars series (Ep IV-VI were good) Episodes I-III. Lucas is no Tolkien and this is why LOTR is a deeper experience IMHO. While watching Attack of the Clones I found myself looking at my watch every now and then, but not once with The Two Towers - which was longer. As Video said there definitely aren\'t many 3 hour movies that leave you wanting more.
-
Gollum will be nominated for Best Actor. Seriously. The emotions he conveyed was perfect. His words were very emotional and felt real. I never liked Gollum when I read the book....but now I see what Tolkien and Bilbo saw.....pity. The little beast was pitiful. And truly deserved pity, as Gandalf said.
-
Thanks, Ooseven :)
-
I can\'t believe how into Gollum people were. Seems like the whole "nerd" population wants this movie so bad that they didn\'t see the cheesy jokes they used with him.
-
What cheesy jokes? I think the (few) jokes that involved Gollum were pretty well-done.
-
Yeah...what jokes?
-
There were a couple of jokes, but I thought they were well done.
How come that pussy wizard got to survive FotR, yet Boromir died..?? ****ing politics
Anyways, a truely exhillerating experience. And a nice thread.. keep talking!
-
Pussy wizard??? You mean Gandalf?
-
I don\'t remember exactly cause I\'m all drugged up right now. I just remember sitting in the movie while some people laughed and I was like, .........ok.
-

I\'m just upset, as Boromir was my favorite character in the first one. :)
-
Gandalf is one of the Istari, an order of the Maiar, angelic beings created by Eru with somewhat less power than the godlike Valar.
Boromir was merely a man.
-
Which is what made his character so great. :)
-
True, Borimir was a great character, but I was just pointing out why Gandalf survived and Borimir didn\'t. Having read the books like a lot of others I already know what happens, but its really fun to see how Peter Jackson puts it on film. I think I was more surprised by your post in which you implied that Gandalf should have died as well. Maybe you were being sarcastic... ;)
-
Yes, yes I was. :)
-
Great movie, but I still don\'t understand WTF Bozco is talkin\' about. Gollum was the best CGI character ever.
Some awards should go out to the developers of Gollum.
-
Gollum was amazing. I could actually see and feel the pain and misery he was in. I can\'t wait to see what he does in Two Towers.
Spoiler for those who haven\'t seen TT [sp]I love how the trees/Ents come in and completely dominate. I was expecting them to get slaughtered typical crazy last act of bravery stlye but they totally wooped ass. I don\'t think one of them died. They definitely asserted themselves as powerful beings. [/sp]

 Finally saw the movie last night! It was f\'n amazing. I was disappointed it ended there, man I wanted more. I was thinking please please please don\'t end. Since the book went further than the movie, I was hoping at least it went up to where the book went. Anyway, can\'t wait till next year! Damn, that\'s gonna be a long time. :(

Indeed... Given that Peter Jackson announced Return of the King to be his favourite of the three... Can not wait!
-
Who\'s the king that is returning? I\'ve only read the Two Towers. I wasn\'t that big of a LOTRs fan up until I rented the Fellowship DVD.
-
Although it should be pretty obvious, I will still tag the info with SPOILER Alert Signs.
Spoilers!
Aragorn, son of Arathorn
End of Spoilers!
Wasn\'t it obvious? ;)
