Title: Favorite Guitar Solo?
Post by: Jumpman on December 21, 2002, 09:03:16 AM
Post your\'s.

Hhmmm...my absolute favorite solo...Ride The Lighting, Kirk Hammlet(sp?) who\'s in Metallica. It\'s long, fast, and there\'s one point that always blows my mind. Around 3 minutes into the song he makes the sound of falling with his guitar, if that\'s even possible. It goes great with the rest of the song aswell.

A lot of the solos by David Gilmour blow my mind too(Comfortably Numb comes to mind). Him, Clapton, Page(word for the Stairway call), and Hendrix may not be the fastest guitarists of all time, but that doesn\'t mean they aren\'t the best(and I truly believe they are).

A lot of the solos from Buckethead are technical wonders. The guy is like Van Halen on speed. But the problem I have with Buckethead, Halen, and Randy Rhoads is their guitar solos don\'t go very well with their songs. Usually they play decent riffs, and then all of a sudden they kick it into overdrive with crazy fast solos.

Hendrix. the solo at the end of Bold As Love.
Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, and it actually brought tears to my eyes a couple of times.

I think I can see what you\'re saying here, but it doesn\'t always apply to Buckethead.  I have become some sort of Buckethead expert over the years... he\'s recorded so much stuff, it\'s been difficult to collect it all.  He has recorded a wide variety of styles and intensities.  For a solo that PERFECTLY matches the mood and style of the song, I would refer you to "Flying Guillotine" (from Day of the Robot) or "Machete" (from Colma).

To me several of the most perfect solos ever recorded were performed by David Gilmour.  For example, "Money" or "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2"  Also I must mention another of my guitar heroes, George Benson.  The album "Breezin" is a masterpiece of perfect guitar solos.
