When you fill out a job application why do you have to tell them your race?
Why are non whites in American called African American or Asian American etc? Shouldnt whites be called European Americans not just Americans?
-
You tell them race because job places have to higher minorities so when filing through a stack on nobodys they can pick one person over another.
On this I would say because the whites claimed the nation to themselves and were against the other races. So now being white is the "normal".

1. Affirmative Action and the like. It can only help you to be a minority in this instance.
2. No one says they are "American" when you ask about their races. The technical term form a white person is Caucasian, the same way it\'s African American for black people, Asian American for asians, and Native American for American Indians. Then again, how many people use any of those terms in the first place. Personally, I don\'t call people African American any more than I call people Caucasian. I just use black and white.

I think affirmative action only hurts minorities. The "victim mentality" that is prevalent will never disappear if they have that to hold over the so-called "white man\'s" head. So make everyone equal, and let\'s see what they\'re made of. Do you think employers value employees that they "have" to hire, over someone that is qualified?
-
Are you sure they ask you about race? I know when I give interviews I can not ask anything about age, race, religion, kids, family, anything at all that could come back to bite us if I don\'t hire the person. I just don\'t think a job aplication has race on it personally.
Many other applications do for things like insurance, etc.
-
The job applications I\'ve filled out all had race on them, I believe, although a few said it was an optional field.
-
<-----Didn\'t see race. I personally don\'t think that we should look at race when looking for someone for a job. I see equal citizens in each. Every person going up for it is just as good as the rest. Color, nationality and race should just be done away with. What\'s the difference? We are all the same human.
-
That\'s true, but unfortunately, in some parts of the country, some people still don\'t look at things that way.

Simply put....
AA is bullshit
Then again, if we didnt have a larger problem to address, we wouldnt need AA.
As for topic.
You dont have to fill out your race, it\'s optional and illegal I believe in some places as Vid said. They designed it to filter out the unwanted races once upon a time.

the same way it\'s African American for black people,
Unless, of course, said black person isn\'t African American. :)

You can be an African American and not be black. That is if you come from South Africa. Although there are blacks there too, you can immigrate from south Africa and be considered African American. Dave Matthews I think is from South Africa.
