Title: Got my new gfx card,.. need help with BF1942
Post by: Tyrant on December 24, 2002, 08:28:53 AM
After months of waiting i finally got my "leadtek GF4 Ti4200 128Mb VIVO" gfx card ...YAY....!!!!!! :D.
so once everything was set up, i decided to install some games

first up was SOF2 ran fairly smooth fps was between 30-60 fps @1024x768 with 2x AA and quincunx enabled  this was in single player mode, but to my amazement in multiplayer mode i was hitting 125 FPS .

next up was Mafia, again ran pretty well with all options set to max an 2xAA (even at 1280x1024) i only had problems with the fps while driving other than that it was pretty smooth.

finally i installed BF1942, and to my surprise after starting the game the frame rate was medicore at best, and horrendus at worst. if their were any enemies in front of me the screen just freezes for 1 or 2 seconds also if some tanks ar firing at me the fps starts to crawl.
anyone of u guys know what might be causing this, i\'ve updated all my drivers and all that but i still cant figure out what the problem is :(.

EDIT~ these r my pc specs if its any help
P4 1.5Ghz, 256 Mb RD-ram, sb pci128

^^ Won\'t do anything, I think. I\'m pretty sure only the new Radeon takes advantage of Direcx9. It may give a small boost.

Download latest Nvidia Det drivers, Update mb drivers, Update sound drivers. UPDATE ALL DRIVERS. :)

dat should help.. I get 60+ fps on Battlefield no matter what\'s goin on. :)

Disabling AA is a good idea. I find it pointless really. Unless your at 800x600 and under. Otherwise you won\'t notice much difference. Unless your looking for it that is. :)

Ps..

Whatever u do, don\'t use the WINFOX "flash util" It\'ll F@#K your card.

word of warning :)

I did download all drivers including the detenator 41.09 and latest WDM drivers (since the one that came with the card messed up everything).

AA is disabled, so is texture sharpening and that third option anistrophy (or what ever its called ) is also disabled.

as for the winfox thing,..... oops it has already been used, my bro (who installed the card) messed with that. (could this explain my low 3DM2001 score of 8000~8200)  Is there any way to reverse it.

also how can i turn on V-sync i just cant find that option anywhere and i really  hate that screen tearing shit.
thanks for help soulgrind :).

The Program Winfox is ok. It\'s just the FLASH util that screws your card.

As for the v-sync problem. Get this util. Detonator 40.41 CoolBits REG File (http://www.guru3d.com/files/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=462) ~open in new page.
This will add extra options to your Display properties. Including Chaging V-Sync, Frames Rendered before viewed etc..  Unzip and double click the .REG file then click yes.  Go to your display properties where u change everything AA etc.. Then there should be a extra tab. :)   hope this helps.

I have 99fps 100% of the time in bf. If u use Win XP, dl powerstrips, it will help u to keep the fps up at max.

it should.

if your card was working before he flashed it. Then that could have been why your scores a low.  If they are that is....

You shouldn\'t flash vid cards unless you need too. If your bro flashed it through the dos prompt. The GOOD way. Then you shouldn\'t worry. The winfox flash util has HUGE problems. It\'s screwed alot of peoples cards. It screwed my first one too. :/

You don\'t get improved performance by flashing a card. So many people think you do. Flashing cards/mbs are just for better compatabilty etc. There is a program/hack that allows u to alter your mem/core speeds in hardware. You flash the settings into your card. Pretty risky really.

I get around 10000 too 11000 in 3dmark2001.  Although i have a A250 TD Myvivo (ti4400) @ (ti46000 speeds) and a 1.8+ ghz XP with 512meg PC2100 DDR. I get around the same mark as the people that have the same specs as me that have also o/c there cards.. So i\'m happy. :) If i clock the card back to normal speeds i get around 9000 to 10500. Thats also around the top speeds for the same system with a ti4400 card etc. :)

Check the online scores for your system. You may find you\'re getting around the same levels as other people with the same specs. :)

heh, i get consistant 99fps in MP too, it sometimes dips to 75fps but thats when all hell breaks loose.
i think SP depends alot on the processor speed which would explain the low fps\'s that i get. hopefully this will change when i get my p4 2.4Ghz :D.
