Still hurtin\' after all these years about getting their slave-owning asses handed to them. :p

I heard somewhere that Lincon had gigantism (?).. Is it true?
-
He wasn\'t really as tall as everyone thought. He was maybe 6 feet tallk, or 6\'1". It was taller for the time I guess though.
-
how could they hate a man who spoke the words...
"With malice towards none; and charity for all."

He had a syndrome of some type. It makes them very tall, lanky, bulgy eyed and very long fingers. They typically die in their 50s.

It\'s true. The people down here hate "yankees". Being from the north I hear it quite a bit. There is this one trailer that I go by on the way to work and I swear the guy got a new Confederate flag for Christmas because it wasn\'t there last week. If I can get a photo of it without the bubba seeing me (it would be like a scene out of Deliverance if he spotted me) I will post it here.

I find it funny also that people are still hurting. It was 138 years ago. Its history now.

He was 6\'4". Pretty tall even by today\'s standards.

Stupid southerners should shut the hell up, or we\'ll come down there and kick their asses again!

Actually, the South kicked the North\'s asses. They won more battles and lost less men than then North did. We won because of a few fatal mistakes. Namely Gettysburg. If the north had General Lee, then the tables would have been turned.

Ah I know what you mean.. Elephantiasis ;)

The south never had a chance. The north had all the resources it needed and could\'ve lost many more battles and still won. The north lost more men because we fought on their territory.
As for the statue that\'s just dumb to hear people complaining. The Confederate flag shouldn\'t even be flown or posted anywhere anymore since those rednecks were defeated in battle. I live in VA too and it\'s funny because Richmond is only about an hour and a half south of DC, where the biggest memorial of Lincoln is constructed.
Looking at the article again it just might be media sensationalism. Just a group of yuppies from "The Sons of Confederate Veterans." What a stupid group, the sons didn\'t do anything in that war.
-
The Civil War is a part of US history and it should be remembered for both the good and the bad. If people want to fly a Confederate flag they should be allowed to. The Confederate flag is the battle flag - not to be confused with the political flag of the Confederacy.
People say it is a symbol of racism. For the most part, people who use it today are using it for that purpose, but in reality it does not symbolize slavery. The Confederate battle flag was flown only during the Civil War... a mere 4 or so years, unlike the US flag that flew over the institution of slavery for almost a century before the Civil War.
Regarding the dispute over why the south lost the war... THX is right, the South didn\'t have the manpower or the resources to win a war against the north. The north was industrialized while the south was mainly rural. Also the population of the south was quite smaller than that of the north.
If people wish to remember their ancestors - whichever side they fought for - they should be allowed to. Most of those who fought for the South never owned slaves. Only a small percentage of whites in the south could actually afford to. The Sons of the Confederate Veterans is the same thing that The Sons and Daughters of Revolutionary War are - a group that has a common bond in that their ancestors fought for a cause they believed in. Go ahead and let them remember... it took a lot of guts to line up in a field 20 yards from each other and fire away until one side ran or was dead.
Lastly, for the record, I live in the deep south and am a northerner whose ancestors fought for the Union.

The Confederate Flag was not part of any state flag until the Civil Rights movement in the late 50\'s and 60\'s. That just goes to show you that the meaning of the Confederate Flag has since changed.
-
You are right Gman - It was the "Dixiecrats" who incorporated the flag into some southern state flags. I am referring to the plain Confederate flag that is used to show Southern heritage. In my opinion they should be allowed to fly it regardless of what their sentiments may be. This isn\'t Canada after all.
You won\'t see the flag in front of my house, but it is their right to fly it.
-
Of course. It\'s their freedom to.
-
The funny thing is slavery probably would have never been abolished had the south chose not to secede.

It inevitably would\'ve been eventually.

I know. It is just a good thing the south seceded and lost. Otherwise, freeing the slaves would have been a much slower more painful process.
