Title: New car buying - Which one?
Post by: ##RaCeR## on December 30, 2002, 05:37:50 AM
Mum and dad are considering buying a new car. Which one would you go for? All are priced very similar ($AU 40-45).

1). Ford XR6 Turbo

240KW Turbo sedan, nice looking, comes in some pretty sweet colours. 0-100k in 6.2 seconds, whips a WRX\'s butt and comfortably fits 5 people... twin air bags, tiptronic trans.

2). Holden SS

V8, 235KW NA sedan, again, comes in some wicked colours. Does times similar to the XR6, heavier though, has a much nicer interior package. Looks a bit more \'boy racer\' to me which could be a good thing or a bad thing.

I like the XR6 but then it would be nice to have a V8, though I\'d also like to have a turbo...

I would get the Holden SS... say, you why not get a V8 Interceptor like Mel Gibson had in Mad Max?  Wasn\'t that a Ford Falcon?

Yes, that was a Ford, there is a new GT Falcon Coupe coming out 2003. Looks WICKED but heavily priced. Gives a 911 a run for its money.

i really dont like what holden did to the SS, they should\'ve left the tail pipes the same as they were in the 2002 models, more over those alloys r ghey, even worse r those damn tail lights.

who the hell did holden hire to do the cars design ( a ricer perhaps).

but even then out of the 2 u\'d be better off with the SS than that ford.
Also have u considered the Monaro, man that car looks sweet.

the car is called "Holden SS"/Commodore, whereas over here where i live its called the "Lumina SS".

or if by brand u mean manufacturer then the company\'s name is Holden, its a subdivision of GM motors.

But cars use to have a brand. When you say I\'ve bought a Scort, you bought a FORD SCORT. I\'m asking for the main brand of that car... because I never saw that brand symbol.

EDIT: ah ok, you edited the post or I didn\'t see the second part ;)

Hey, I don\'t know if anyone mentioned this yet, but both those cars look like the Mustang!  :)

BTW, don\'t buy a Ford S-Cort.  :)  Fix or repair daily.  :D

Mustangs are Gay.
Bozco is Gay.
Therefore, Bozco must be a Mustang.

I dont like horses.

Go with the holden, its more shiny, and silver. Blue cars suck.

I think both cars look nice but I\'d be wary of that Ford\'s lifespan.  The Tiptronic tranny sounds grrrreat though.

Fords blow monkey nuts.

But that\'s just my opinion.

These are Australian Fords, not American. Build quality is generally pretty good in AUS Fords, though I can\'t say that for the older model.

Actually I heard Ford build quality was better overseas than it is here in North America.  I still wouldn\'t buy one though... except for the Focus RS.  I\'d buy one of those in a millisecond if they sold it here.  The SVT Focus is a poor substitute.

Hehehe, thats the thing, the Focus has been recalled here in AUS and the UK/EURO, because they have major mechanical probs. They have been catching on fire etc here.

Just so you know a little insight on the Focus.  They are about to go into a MAJOR recall here in the US as well.

I\'m not sure what it was, but we had a signed deal with them in our import show that starts airing in February.  They were to have a 2 minute piece in every show.  They backed out because they don\'t want to push the Focus starting in Feb because they are about to do a recall.  I just don\'t know what the recall is.

Hah hah...

Every time you see an article in Automotive News about how "Ford has finally fixed all the Focus problems" then a couple months later you hear about some new recall.  WTF is wrong with Ford?

Anyway, the european Focuses have a better record than Norh American ones, and the Focus RS is not built in the same plants that turn out the mass production Focuses.  I would expect better reliability from that model.

Spooky, I watched a programme from a plant where they made Ford Focus. There\'s nothing in a car nowadays.

The only true gay car is a BMW. You might as well wear a dress when you get in one, or buy a Beatle.
