I was flipping through my ps2 games collection and I noticed that every game has scratches at the bottom.Ofcourse I realize that as soon as you put games in the ps2 scratching will occur. It does not really bother me that much because the games run fine.
However sometimes when I play a game the ps2 makes a noise as if the cd surface is scraping over something.Maybe this is just the sound of the ps2 reading the disc but I\'m not sure.Do you think it\'s possible that the disc drawer doesn\'t have enough room(I mean beneath and on top of the cd) which causes the cd\'s to scratch.Or is the noise I\'m hearing just the reading of the discs?
Maybe I\'m paranoid :hat:
Anyone?

Well, I think it may be the sound of console reading the discs. Other matter is the scratches in the discs\' surface. I wonder how the console would be able to make those physical damages, taking into account that the only part of the device which approaches to the disc, is the lens, and if the lens touches (and, of course, scratches the disc) it would be damaged for sure. So I wonder again how the hell are those scratches made by the consoles.

I think i have the same problem as the one ur talking about metal gear. I just got tribes:arriel assault, and i put it in my ps2, and it sounds like the sides of the cd are rubbing against the sides of the disk-tray making a nasty sound. I have to reset it a coulpe times but it works fine once i get it going. And when i look at the cd there arent any scratches.

if its circular scratches it means the ps2 got hot and the game warped and the game touched the PS2 lens but sony made the ps2 lens harder then the disc so the disc gets scratched but the lens stays fine

If the games still run okay I wouldn\'t worry about it too much. On my machine some games make more noise when spinning than others.

CDs have a tendency of scratching. They are just plastic (I think). As long as your data is alright, don\'t worry about it. Investing in GameDoctor if they are badly scratched is a good investment (from what I hear).

take a picture, and post it up. cos i had a prob with the lens touching my games, and got amassive scratch on gt3

Thanx you guys for replien\'
I think it\'s pretty harmless and as long as the games still work I have nothing to whine about.
I think I\'ll just leave it like it is.
Thanks anyway kopking!

Do you realize how hot that would have to be? CDs are pretty damn robust and don\'t deform easily. The warping most likely occurs on the PS2 case (as in my case). I told my mom NOT to open the shades of my room during summer evenings because the sun would shine directly on my PS2. Well she did and the bottom is all screwy now. Still works (almost) fine though.

I guess you had to change the lens... because it\'s extremely frail.. right?

Is it possible that the scratches could be coming from somewhere other than the PS2? I take very good care of my audio CDs, and still sometimes I find scratches on them, from not being careful enough putting them in the CD case or other things like that, but I never notice when it happens.

I\'m careful and still they scratch. But as long as they work, don\'t worry about it. If you play a CD alot, it will most likely scratch. Probably it comes from the CD tray but don\'t take my word on it. I know nothing of what happens once you put a cd in.

scratches can come from many places, u can even scratch a cd by cleaning it with a cloth. but offcourse these r only superficial scratches and cause no harm, its when the scratches have slightly penetrated the cd that u should be concerned.
oh and like Titan said if u can find a GD for cheap get it.
