Title: What "version" of LOTR should I get?
Post by: fastson on December 30, 2002, 03:49:33 PM
Im thinking of buying the LOTR trilogy.. But Im not sure which "version" (?) I should get.. There are a lot of different once out there, pocket versions ect..

I want one in “real” book form as I think Im going to read it more than once.. I want one with all the maps and everything.

First I thought of getting the Swedish translated version, but when my sis told me that Tolkien actually spoke Swedish and that he hated the Swedish translation (as do the real Tolkien fans over here) I changed my mind.
English version it is..

I found this on Bokus..

ISBN: 0395193958

Looks pretty nice and it has the maps.. It costs $90 if I buy it in a bookstore here.

What do you think? Got any other suggestions?

Thx..

No, really. The outlook of the book is both simple and beautiful, as it should. And the leather-package warrants a long life-span - even if the book is handled roughly :)

Get the red one.  I heard that Tolkien originally wanted the trilogy to appear in  one book but editor separated them.  I was pretty impressed with it when I saw it at the bookstore.

The only downside is that if you decide to get any of his other works, the covers wouldn\'t match.

Rya, I have nearly all the books Tolkien has written - and none of the covers match. I have paperback-, hard- and leather-covered books with different cover-styles ( the english single-volume edition of LotR I have has been illustrated by Alan Lee ). Still, they fit quite nicely together :)
