Title: My grandfather just died
Post by: Samwise on January 04, 2003, 11:16:22 AM: I just talked to my mom on the phone. It turns out my grandfather died just now (well some 30 mins ago). But he was old (90-something) and senile so he had it coming. And I can\'t really mourn him since we\'ve never had any real conversation to speak of (he went senile when I was like 10).

My grandmother also died a few months ago.

EDIT: It\'s kinda funny, I could instantly hear something was wrong when she called, even though she calls me often in this time of day (evening). Freaky.

I also lost a great grandparent I wasn\'t close with 2 years ago, so I know what that\'s like. I\'m sorry that you have to deal with such a loss, even if you didn\'t know your grandfather very well.

Post by: Cerberus on January 04, 2003, 11:57:43 AM: My grandad on my Dads side died of a heart attack the day before his (my Dads) birthday, when they brought his belongings home from the hospital in a box, there was an unopened birthday card in the inside pocket of his coat, still in the plastic wrapper that had the words "happy birthday son" on the front.

My grandfather died this summer. We were extremely close, and it was hard for me to get over. Eventually all things will turn out good.

I had never seen someone die before until then and it is freaky. Their breathes start getting slower and there is more of a pause in between.

Once again, sorry about your loss.

First off, my condolensces man. That blows when you lose family history like that. Hope you got a lot of great stories out of the ole guy.

Secondly, your choice of words here is great. "He had it coming." As if the dude robbed a bank or beat up an old lady or something.

We knew that he wouldn\'t last through the summer, for his heart had weakened greatly and all he could do was to lay in a hospital-bed, wait for death to visit. He could not speak, nor eat properly. He wasn\'t aware of his surroundings, although he felt pain and still liked ice-cream. I didn\'t mourn for his death much - it was a greater sorrow to see my mother crying.

May your grandfather\'s soul rest in peace, Sammy.

It happened while my parents were away on holiday so I had to break the news to them over the phone. Very difficult times, they had to come home and cancel the rest of the holiday.
