Title: Networking Help!
Post by: Ace on January 08, 2003, 07:38:13 AM
Hi,

I have a Netgear MR314 wireless four port router at my house. I have two wired computers and one wireless system. Everything was working OK until one of the computers crashed and I decided to do a fresh install of Win2000.

Everything seems to be OK except the computer is not seeing the router. When I check the local area network it appears to be OK and connected but not receiving or sending any information.

I also did an ipconfig to see what the IP address of the computer is and it giving me a 169.254.x.x number. The troubleshooter for the router says that when this is the case it is because the system is not seeing the router and is not getting an IP address from the DHCP. It says to check the cable to the router. I did and it is connected and the lights are on the NIC and router.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Ace

is the computer set up for DHCP?

make sure the router is set up to give out enough IP\'s.

check the route table on the router

type /ipconfig renew on the computer to try and get a new IP

can u ping the router IP?

check the IP\'s on all computers and make sure one isnt being duplicated

---
just some random ideas
try those and let me know what happens

Thanks mm for the info. I\'ll check it out when I get home. This one has me perplexed because I have set up a router or two.

Well, I\'m all set. Checking the router/DHCP table was the key here. I had to restore the router to it\'s default setting and reboot the systems for them to show up.

Thanks!
