Title: ~Official NFL 2002-2003 Thread~ part VeeEye
Post by: videoholic on January 08, 2003, 01:33:48 PM
OK, maybe a new thread will get us to talk about the upcoming games rather than the old stuff.

So does anyone think the long trips will affect the Jets and 49ers?  How do you think the Jets will do on 6 day layoff?
Title: NFL Rocks
Post by: shockwaves on January 08, 2003, 02:04:22 PM
I don\'t think the length of the trip affects you as much as the situation you walk into at the end of it.

Game of the week: Jets at Raiders.  They played twice last year, and once this year.  Each time it has been a great game.  The Raiders won by a touchdown earlier this year, but the Jets are the hottest team in the NFL right now.  This is gonna be an all out war.  I\'m going to go with the Jets, by a field goal, because I think they have improved more since the teams last met.

...and since when do the Jets have a 6 day layoff?

Falcons at Eagles: I think the Eagles will have this one in the bag.  Vick played great against the Packers, but the Packers D isn\'t nearly as good as the Eagles.  The Eagles have the type of D that can contain a guy like Vick.  They are also more used to playing one, considering this defense matches up against McNabb\'s offense in practices.  The Eagles have a much better D, probably the best secondary in the NFL, and a much better running game.  And McNabb is back.  I think the Eagles win big.

Steelers at Titans: I also think this is going to be a great game.  In fact, this is the type of football game I think I will enjoy watching.  Two good defenses, good running games.  The Steelers like to throw the ball a lot more now, than in the past, and Ward and Burress had great seasons.  But I think that this one goes to the Titans, in another close game.  The Steelers needed a pretty nice comeback to beat the Browns at home.  No offense to the Browns, but the Titans will be much more of a challenge.  I\'m not sure if the Titans match up as well, but they are more talented, and I happen to think that McNair is one of the more valuable players this year.  The Titans have also been a hot team, and had plenty of time to rest.  Titans by 7-10.

Niners at Bucs: Does a team have to win? ;)  Ok, here\'s how I see it.  Bucs will win big.  They just match up very well with the Niners.  Owens won\'t be matching up with Jason Sehorn anymore.  The Bucs have a very fast defense, and a very tough defense.  They also have the NFL\'s best defense.  Garcia was able to engineer that comeback because there was no pressure being put on him.  That will not happen against Tampa.  Their defense is checkered with Pro Bowl players, including two on the defensive line (both starters).  This team just scares me.  They have absolutely shut down some of the best players in the NFL, including Vick (twice) and Favre at QB.  On the other side of the ball, Brad Johnson is back, and he has had a surprisingly good year.  The Niners were 22nd in the NFL against the pass.  The Bucs were first.  The Bucs scored only 1.3 fewer points per game, while allowing 9.6 fewer.  I think the Bucs win by 2 TDs.

The Niners will win because the Bucs sluggish offense will finally catch back up to them and bite them in the ass. Furthermore the Niners have come off their biggest game this season and that momentum will definately carry over to this game.

Steelers - 6 day layoff.
Jets - 8 day layoff.

Bill Cowher has already complained. Dave Szott (former Chief) has already stated that if the Jets would have had more time on the clock earlier this year, they would have won. Appernatly, that\'s all Jerry Porter needed to get his panties in a bundle.

"If they like coming down here and getting their ****ing asses kicked, let em\'. let em\'. - Jerry Porter"

Jets have improved, yes, and I thought they were damn good last year, but like last year, the Raiders running game will beat the Jets. Raiders 35, Jets 31 in one hell of a game.

As for the others, I think the Titans will simply beat the Steelers down. They\'re better, they have the ability to keep a lead, a better defense, and all the tools to get things done. Personally, I think they just might get to the Super Bowl. That, and I\'ve taken a liking to them being that they play as a damn good team -- proven by the fact that they\'ve won 10 of their last 11, and not ONE Pro Bowler.

Niners and Bucs. I don\'t care. If TO gets decapitated, go Niners, but if not, Go Bucs. Montie Kiffin 0wnz j00.

Falcons at Eagles. Eagles by a whole lot. This "Donovan McNabb can\'t run" exposay is a crock of shit. Eagles by 2 TD\'s.

See Yuz.

Bucs sluggish offense?  Check the last 5 games Brad Johnson played in.  I\'d do it for you, but it\'s just not worth it to me. 49ers don\'t have a chance in hell.

PS: I\'ll edit this statement Sunday at 4pm if we lose...  heheheh

the only reason Maddox is good is because he played in the Arena league which is a predominately throwing game and a shorter field, plus he played in the XFL (for the year the XFL was around). And Randel El has Matured a bit.

Ill be honest, he is one of the top WRs in the league but it is his stupid antics on the field.  Can he for once just act like he scored a TD before.  You dont see Mario Lemeuix go crazy of a goal...or Jerry Rice sign balls and grab pom-poms.

First that helmet to helmet they called...which wasn\'t even helmet to helmet. It\'s football, you\'re gonna get hit while going across the middle. Now Haynesworth gets called for a personal foul. Amos is a RB, RB\'s are supposed the be able to take hits, christ.

*sigh* They gave the kicker two chances.

The Steeler defender slid away from the kicker...the kicker side stepped into the Steeler defender and dropped himself when he realised he missed. The Ref thinks the Steeler ran into the kicker.

And throws the flag.

Kicker gets another chanse and makes it.

Damn refs. The Steelers could easily beat the Bucs. Just like three weeks ago.

Nedney even said in those interview question things that the press does that it was a little bit of acting that helped them win the game. It was obvious he was acting since he was hit way after the kick, but i dont think he shouldve come right out and said that cuz for the steelers season to be over on that kind of penalty so they could kick it again was pretty dumb.

It took an awful lot of though to pick the titans and the eagles.

Today\'s picks may be a bit more interesting.  Although the way the jets have been playing lately will make it very interesting.

BTW, CBS is kicking ass in coverage. I figure most of you can\'t watch these games in HD, but they look phenomenal.  FOX does their games in widescreen, but it\'s not HD.  It\'s about half the resolution and it looks like shit compared to CBS. Looking forward to todays games.

What I\'m having? Here.....have "common sense". The Bucs defense got its ass reamed by the Steelers offense. Year after year, the Bucs typically have lost to the Steelers. Did you even watch the game?

Outside of the interception returned for a TD in the first quarter and some other quick misshaps in the first quarter, I certainly would not say they got their asses reamed.

Steelers play Bucs 20 times Bucs would beat them 14 of them.

40 seconds to go and they pretty much threw in the towel.  I don\'t know about anyone else, but that\'s pretty damn sad for a franchise to just walk off the field with 2 timeouts left and nearly a minute left on the clock.  You know, it\'s the playoffs, just 5 seconds is an eternity, but I guess everytime the Niners get a break, they just lose yards or the ball.  Just take a look at the return after that offside penalty and the punt kick after that holding penalty, both times looking for better field position and they got royally screwed in the end.

I still can\'t believe they just gave up at the end of the half though.  To their credit, they\'re not losing as bad as they were at this time last week.  :)

This may go down as the worst Niners game I\'ve ever seen. I have respect for the Bucs defense, they definately are stingy. However the Bucs offense will always be shit in my book.

Time to think about next season, and saying goodbye to Mariucci. I have alot of respect for him as a coach, but he\'s just not what the Niners need. We need an aggressive, chance-taking "Mike Martz" kinda guy that has a pair of nuts.

The first round pick should DEFINATELY be used on a dominating presence on the defensive line. Andre Carter is good, but Stubblefield and Young really have got to move on. They apply absolutly no pressure in the middle whatsoever.

Special teams is another area that needs a good revamping. I dunno, there\'s problems here and there, but I can worry about that this summer.

Good season overall, fell short, but I\'m satisfied overall.

Go Eagles.

mike martz has to be my least favorite coach ever. i mean, ur in the superbowl where u need every part of ur team to do well. And u have a back with the skill of marshal faulk, and u dont use him? how much of a moron do u have to be to go 1 dimensional of offense when u have faulk. And then this year. He kept putting in Warner because he didnt want to admit that his star player was horrible this year, and he didnt fully trust bulger after the fact he went 5-0. and i know u said mike martz kind of guy and not actually mike martz, but he ticks me off with the way hes coaching.

Yes, I feel sorry for my team. Yes, Im completely down right now. Yes, the Bucs just completely ****ed the niners. But, the Niners made it this far, and im proud to be a S.F. fan. I don\'t feel completely let down by my team, they just couln\'t get anything started. Next year, once all the injured players are back up, will be a completely different story.

But, being a cali guy. Even though the Niners are out, my second hope......

GO RAIDERS!!!!!

I love biased fans.  You know when my homer team loses like this I give it up.  When Miami kicked the shit out of UF, I didn\'t say UF just didn\'t play very well, I said that Miami kicked our ass.

49ers didn\'t lose because they didn\'t play well.  They lost because the bucs defense kicked their asses.  Put them in the hole and then just teed it up.  49ers were owned.  Not because they just didn\'t play well, but because the Bucs kicked their ass!!!

The Jets vs. Raiders game will come down to a field goal.

And like I said before, John Hall is the Jets achilles heel.

What a drive -- 8 minute drive by the Jets, capped off by a TD with 22 seconds left in the half.

10-10 at halftime, barring the Raiders trying to score in 19 seconds.

Hahahahaha... Shockwaves, I was generous giving the Raiders a win by a FG, this one is turning into a blowout.

Lets set the record straight, before any Jets fans attack me for laughing at the Jets misfortune, although the Patriots did not make the playoffs, Tom Brady has a Superbowl ring and MVP award, Pennington does not. :)

BOOO YAH!

This is also Pennington\'s first year.  He\'ll get one before he\'s done.  And who gives a shit what Brady has.  This is this year, and your team didn\'t even get to the playoffs.  So stop laughing.  I\'d say more, but being a Boston sports fan, you\'ve already been punished enough :p

Pennington was not himself tonight.  Not at all.  He kept on missing wide open throws.  It was just bad.  Next year though, he\'ll be back.  Watch out.

Oh well.  My pick at the beginning of the playoffs was Bucs and Titans.  Still good on that.

Well... its true the Patriots did not make the playoffs, but this year is over for both of them, so not even THIS year matters.  The Patriots had their opportunity and went all the way, this year the Jets had theirs and blew it.

Baseball - fine...  you\'ve got me in one sport.;P

Football - Patriots on the whole are a better team.  More championships, and more recently some quality players.

Basketball - read my sig... 28 Hall of Famers, 16 NBA Championships, one legacy...

Hockey - Overall every season they turn out successful.

My favorite football team has been to the Superbowl twice in my memory, and won it once.

My favorite baseball team has been to the Series once, my second favorite has been there too many times to count, and won all but one of em.

My favorite hockey team has won the Stanley Cup in my memory.

My favorite basketball team has been to the NBA finals twice in my memory.

New England Patriots - Superbowl appearences in 1976, 1996, and 2001, winning it in 2001.  Numerous Division titles to go along with it.

Boston Red Sox - Strong in the early going, can\'t say I\'ve seen them win a world series, but watched the homerun hit by Carlton Fisk in \'76 world series.  As well as the Buckner through the leg error :(.  Not a championship team by any means, but historical.

Boston Celtics - once again, let me quote my sig... "28 Hall of Famers... 16 NBA Championships... One Legacy..."  The best franchise in sports history.  Your basketball team what?

Boston Bruins - 5 Stanley Cup Championships.

pretty good resume...

But how much of that was in your lifetime.  Better yet, how much of that can you remember, from when it happened?  By the age you put in your profile, this is what I\'d think, and correct me if I\'m wrong.

Football: You can remember 2 Super Bowl Appearances, and one win.  Same as me.

Baseball: You can remember no World Series appearances.  No contest.  You were 2 and a half for the last one.

Basketball: You can remember no finals appearances, and no titles.  You were 3 for their last appearance, and 2 for their last title.

Hockey: You can remember no Stanley Cup titles in one or two appearances.  You were 4 for one appearance, and 6 for another.

I was born the same year.  In the same timespan, I have seen one more Cup, 2 more finals appearances, and equal number of Super Bowls, and countless more World Series appearances, assuming that you can\'t remember things from when you were 2 and 3.  And if you can, that only adds on a Super Bowl and a World Series for me in the same time span.

In addition: The Sox haven\'t won a title in over 80 years.  The Bruins haven\'t in over 30.  The longest it\'s been for a New York team is the Knicks, who won it the same year as the Bruins.  They also got to the finals twice in the 90s, while the Celtics haven\'t been there since the mid 80s.

And if you want to argue historically, and not in our lifetimes, you win Basketball, while I win Hockey, Football, and Baseball.

In the Buccaneer\'s short history since its inception in 1976, the Bucs have won only one game against the Steelers. One game. During the Steelers losing season.

You can\'t go back in Bucs history.  The teams of the past 5 years are totally different, so your history means nothing.

I was just saying put these two teams up against each other 20 games.  God, why do I have to explain everything.

And you are correct about rushing.  Bucs absolutely suck against the rush.  Bucs shine when they get a 10+ point lead.  Finally they have an offense that can do that.

Next week will be interesting.  To be honest I think the Eagles have a 70% shot at winning.  Hopefully the weather won\'t be nutty so we can have a good game.

The Eagles are going to destroy the Bucs.  The Bucs offense can\'t compete against the Eagles defense.  However if the Eagles score two touchdowns on the Bucs + the Cold weather they will almost automatically win.  Seeing as how they\'ve beaten basically the same Bucs teams 3 straight times.

As for the Titans and Raiders... well it really depends on the health of Eddie George.  Without George the Titans have almost no chance.  With George who knows.  McNair will go down fighting either way.

If a team cannot win just because the loss of one person the dont deserve to win its all about being a team and have the secondary to back up the 1st string.

I think he should not have been fired.  He had a very decent record during his years in San Fran.  However, here\'s what you have to realize.  These were supposed to be rebuilding years.  The post Young, post Rice era.  That team has crap for defense, and he gets them into the playoffs year after year.  He took Garcia, a CFL QB, and made him into an All Star.  He did a GREAT job in San Fran.  At least he\'ll move onto a place that appreciates that.
Title: NFL Rocks
Post by: theomen on January 15, 2003, 04:50:02 PM
True he made the rebuilding years less painful, but as of late he took a mediocre defense and made them...mediocre, and he took an incredibly talented offense and made them....mediocre.  He just seems to not fit in with the current team.  He\'s a great coach, just not for us.
Title: NFL Rocks
Post by: shockwaves on January 15, 2003, 05:04:35 PM
Not at all, from my point of view.  These are the rebuilding years.  Look at the other teams that were good during the same period: The Bills, the Cowboys, etc.  The Niners should have still been rebuilding.  Garcia was not a great QB before.  The only reason this offense looks so good is because he made them look good.  And the defense was overrated from the start.

And you don\'t go 10-6 and win your division if you\'re mediocre on both sides of the ball.  And you DON\'T have a great offense either.  It is very good, but not great.  That\'s just an opinion though.  Great offenses are teams like Oakland and Kansas City.
Title: NFL Rocks
Post by: SirMystiq on January 15, 2003, 06:27:08 PM
I agree with both Shocks and Omen. He was a great coach, took them to the playoffs everytime. But, to me, he seems to be missing something that would make the niner offense even better. He always makes it this far, then in the end,  he kinda loses that touch that brought the team there. He was a great coach, but like Omen said, he just wasn\'t the best coach for the niners. Also, like Shocks said, the team wasn\'t mediocre, they got this far didn\'t they?
Title: NFL Rocks
Post by: theomen on January 15, 2003, 10:48:01 PM
Well I was trying to think of some coaching candidates, and the list isn\'t too bad.

Terry Donahue
Bill Walsh
Mike Holmgrem (rumors of a deal to bring him over from seattle)
Jimmy Johnson (hell he is without a job right now, but not bloody likely to become a niner)
Dennis Green
Jim Mora Jr.

quite frankly it\'s not as pitifull as I thought it would be, nonetheless it\'ll probably go to a guy already in the organization, ie Donahue, Mora, or Walsh.

I honestly think that right now the best team is either Philly or Tampa.  I really do think both are better than the Raiders.  They play defense like no other teams in the league.  That\'s what gets you wins in the playoffs.

As long as the Raiders do not win the Super Bowl, all will be right in the world. I kind of want the Raiders to get to the Superbowl and then lose because the looks in the Raider fans\' glittery faces would be priceless.

And this is one thing I don\'t get.  Don\'t both teams have to play in the cold?  I could have sworn that both teams play on the same field.  WHy do they always rag on southern teams when they have to play in the cold.  It\'s not like the eagles players practice outside or anything.  And they only play in a few cold weather games each year so its not like they are eskimos or anything.

It\'s not just any cold weather team Vid.  The Bucs have a history of choking in cold games.  They\'ve won one game in uder 40 degree weather, and that was in Chicago.  Plus, although they may not always practice in the cold, the Phili players live in it, while the Tampa ones don\'t.  They are just more used to it, and it does make a difference.  It gives them a bit of an edge.

Hmm, the Eagles Defense seems to be doing damn well on 1st and 2nd down. That doesn\'t mean shit on 3rd down -- the Bucs are tearing it up on 3rd and long\'s, which is visibly demoralizing the Eagles.

Eagles trying to put some more points onto the board, and they\'re ****ing up, going backwards -- got to at least make this a 4 point game, if not tie it up. Still got 1:20 to play in the half...

McNair, as much as it isn\'t true, considers himself a passing QB, hence the nickname "Air McNair". Unless he spent his time flying at Alcorn State, I\'m pretty sure that means that he likes to throw, considering he threw for over 6,000 yards in college -- not bad.

The Eagles have done that throughout the past month.

In the Giants game, they scored a TD 1:30 into the game...they didn\'t score again, and the Giants, who completely outplayed the Eagles, won in OT.

The game today was sloppy, and quite frankly, I think lower of the Eagles than anything. The Eagles were given opportunities, and their pourous offense shoved them away.

Whoever wins the game going on right now, and I must say, it\'s a damn good one, will win the Super Bowl. Go AFC.

Yeah, right *rolls eyes*

Raiders by 2 TD\'s. You heard it here. Rich Gannon throws 3 TD passes, and Charlie Garner slashes and dashes for a 100 yard day. The Raiders have what the Niners and Eagles failed to display - a damn good offense, and a power running threat (Tyrone Wheatley and Zach Crockett). A Ton of proven vets, and the Bucs are here for the first time. Now, we can only hope that Warren Sapp doesn\'t do what he did the last time he was in a Title situation at any level -- party all week.

Raiders 31, Bucs 17.

Good luck on your prediction.  It will only come true if the raiders jump on the bucs early.  If the bucs get a ten point lead, pin your ears back cause it could be a doozy.

Niners - Off an Emotional High...their Defense never had a chance. Their Offense was shut down the entire game, and never had a running game to speak of (I was rooting for the Bucs...god I hate Terrell Owens)
Eagles - Haven\'t had an offense period. They\'ve relied on defense all year, and their Offensive Line didn\'t show up.

As for My prediction, I\'m saying that if the Bucs offensive line plays like they have for the majority of the year. If they play like they did yesterday, it will be a much different story -- I was quite impressed with their performance.

You have no clue as to what you\'re talking about.

Tampa Bay\'s got a good Defense, but if that defense slips up once, and the way the Raiders D has played in the past month, if the Raiders get up early, I think it\'s over. It\'s great that the Bucs learned how to score -- most of the points caused by the Defense (Only scored 3 points in the 2nd half if you don\'t count the Ronde Barber INT to seal it).

Last I checked, you don\'t need to stop the defense.  The old arguement comes up way too often too, by the way.  What about Jerry Porter?  Or Charlie Garner?  There are plenty of offensive weapons on this team that have plenty of playing years left in them.  And besides, the age hasn\'t shown yet.  This team has not only had the number one offense, but they\'ve gotten better as the year has gone on.  Doesn\'t sound like an overly old team to me.

im hoping that griese is released from the broncos(which is what iv heard) and that they pick up warner. But iv heard maybe the bears and also staying with the rams. As long as the broncos get a quarterback thats not steve beurline(former panther may i add :) ) who just doesnt cut it as a starting QB, and not griese who complains about everything, doesnt show the want of getting back on the field like most players do when their hurt, and is unpredictable. This year either griese has been either very good or horrible. So i think they need to get a third year QB, work with whoever it would be, and turn him into a bronco QB. Also they need another corner cuz deltha oneal is the only one who stands out, but he gets penalized a lot for how much contact he plays with which is a bunch of BS to me, but what ya gunna do?

Comparing this team to any past teams is freaking ridiculous.

Dungy is a joke of a coach.  He plays to not lose.  He doesn\'t play to win.  We had shitty as hell offensive coordinators.

Now we have a guy who lights a fire under their asses.  A guy who game plans like a mother.

Whoever said it should be Niners and Raiders should be smacked...anyway... I think it comes down to how well the Raiders play defense on Sunday.  If the Raiders defense has a good game then the Raiders will likely win.  The Raiders offense is almost impossible to stop.  I think they\'ve scored less than 20 points only three times this year. (All 3 of those games were losses however)

On the other hand, if the Bucs can get some turnovers and control the clock and have a similar offensive performance to the Philly game, then they will win.

Well if the bears are able to get Warner, they will be quite the scary team.  While their running game was pretty weak this year, with the addition of a passing threat the entire offense should open up.  Then with the defense coming back off of injuries, this team will possibly challenge for the divisional championship.

Wrong way to go, Luke.

After the \'98 Season, the Chiefs had a decision to make. Either keep Rich Gannon, who was, at the time, 35 years old, but was winning games, or go with Elvis Grbac, who at the time was 26, probably had the better ability, but wasn\'t as much of a winner.

The Chiefs chose Grbac because he was younger. Which one\'s still in the NFL?

theomen, you do realize that the average score given up by the bucs is like 8, right?

Gruden knows every little quirk about every player on that offense.  He knows exactly what he hoped the other defenses wouldn\'t figure out.  This is a HUGE advantage.

Fingers crossed.

The polls I\'ve seen are all like 48%-52% of the people picking the  raiders.  So close.  This should be a fun game to watch.

Yeah, that brings up a point.  The draft picks.  Heh, they may have our 1st and 2nd round picks, but they are very very late picks.

Bucs shouldn\'t be a one hitter.  Actually they may be, but it depends on what they do to dip under the cap.  There is a good chance that they may lose only a few players to get room.  This is not a team that threw a bunch of cash to make it this year fast.  This is the same defense we\'ve had for several years, but they\'ve never been able to play with a 2 score lead.  That lead makes a huge difference in this Defense.

Well, apperantly congratulating Vid on a win in the Super Bowl isn\'t enough. I must hear for it, first. Bozco I deserved, but after I figure out why I\'m getting shit for congratulating you on a Super Bowl win, I\'ll tell you all.

Vid, I\'m not an avid Raiders fan, so quite frankly, I couldn\'t care less about your barrage of quoteabile insults. What I did care about, however, was when the Huskers washed your pitiful Gators off the ****ing field in the \'96 Fiesta Bowl. 62-24. I remember it like it was yesterday. Good times, I must say.

Like Hurricanes said, one hit wonders. Chiefs in 2003 :)

See Yuz.

I\'ll take a bet right now that the bucs will at least get to the championship game the next two years.

Rich McKay is the mack daddy.  There are no key people needing to be resigned this year other than they kind Dexter Jackson and a Shelton Quarles who I think they may trade.  I think Sapp still has another year possibly two, but they may need to rework him as well.

My barrage of quotable insults were wonderful.  They are simply reposts of what you said.  Gotta love that.

And I couldn\'t care less about the Gators in 96.  We were not expected to win.  I never expected them to win.  And I certainly never said the Gators would smoke the Huskers.

Chiefs can certainly go on to the Superbowl.  Easy win for the bucs.

The championship game means nothing.  Unless you make the Super Bowl, it\'s meaningless. :p

Well I am giving you two years.  If you twist my arm and give me good odds I\'ll take Super Bowl for Next year and Championship game the following year.  Ah hell, I\'ll take SB for both.

What streets? Not on mine. This superbowl SUCKED. Yeah, Bucs pretty much ****ed the raiders, but there was no fun in the game. That Pass interference call to that uncatchable pass would of stopped the Buccs during that one play, and things could of looked alot different if the Raiders have gotten the ball back that series. But no, bad call.

I can\'t believe Steve Young was going for the Bucs. Bucs are going to the the next Patriots, you aren\'t going to hear about them next year. As for the SuperBowl next year, I don\'t even have to say it, b/c you all ready know who\'s going to make it this time. 49ERS!!

Yep, you\'ve verified it.  Your a complete moron.

I live in Tampa little man.

The team came in last night and the entire stadium was over capacity to welcome them home.  Today is a parade for the team through downtown.  Should be cool.  Then this weekend is Gasparilla.  One freaking huge parade where they throw beeds and show the titties.  It\'s good to be the king.

Looks like my Niners might be able to play defense in the year 2003.  In other words, the Niners are interviewing Monte Kiffin, TB\'s defensive coordinator.  If the niners could lan him, I would be immensly pleased.

That guy is the key to everything.  Screw Dungy.  Kiffin was in place before Dungy came aboard.  He is the mack daddy and I\'m sorry to see him go, but I just can\'t see him staying.

TB has the fact that the Niner ownership doesn\'t believe in paying coaches, in their favor.  The most that the old Doc will shell out for a coach will be in the low 2 mil neighborhood, and I\'m not sure if that will be enough to lure him away from the defending champions.

Gators were favored in that game as far as the line goes, look it up.

Chiefs Offensive Line > Raiders Offensive Line

And yes, Monte Kiffin is awesome. He\'s younger than Vermeil, and a year older than Parcells, which I found amazing. He was the Defensive Coordinator for the Huskers over 30 years ago for christs sake. Either way, I can bet that he stays put. If he would have wanted to coach at any level, he would have put up more of a fight when Bob Devaney gave the job to Tom Osborne, who at the time was just a Quarterbacks Coach. Just like that, if Kiffin wanted the Niners job, he\'d take it, but I highly doubt it.

See Yuz.

I dunno.  There was word that he wasn\'t happy not even getting interviewed for the bucs job.  Money talks and the 49ers have plenty of it.

but we don\'t use it, since the DeBartalo\'s left, the niner franchise has become a business and not a team.  Thus they want to cut cost in every aspect, especially coaching and special teams.

well, John York spends it.  but not for coaches.  He\'s said it before, that he doesn\'t believe in over paid coaches.  I hope that he\'ll open his pocket book on this one, but I have a bad feeling.  As it is, he\'s trying to "downsize", or so the rumors say.

The Bengals are the biggest disgrace in sports today.  Worse than the Expos.  Forget any other owner, Mike Brown is the worst, by a lot.  He should be shot.

Ohh, yeah Im a moron, everyone should know where you live right..I mean you\'re very important.

49ers have good defensive players, that coach would just make them better, and would be cool to see him go to the niners.

Very cool.  Apparently he was ready to get on a plane to SF too.

They ahd a victory celebration where he pulled up the DL coach to the stand.  I knew he was doing that to push him into the spot light.

I\'m just glad they were able to keep him.  Sweet deal too.

He won a national championship at the UM,but most (meaning me)felt he road Jimmy Johnson\'s coat tails to that NC.It did\'nt hurt that JJ left the team stocked with talent either. He was also the reason for Miami\'s sanctions a few years ago.I believe he resigned that position rather than be fired for the violations.

He didn\'t do much at all in Seattle. After being fired he went to Oregon St. and did good things there.

One thing about him that really stands out to me is that he isn\'t really the kind of guy who can get players fired up,but knows his X\'s and O\'s.This could be a good fit for him so who knows but I still don\'t understand why the 49\'rs were so quick to get rid of Mooch.

And he lost his last game at Miami, but we all know that story, if I haven\'t forced it into your memory banks already :)

Dennis Erickson\'s a good coach. Nobody rides anybody\'s coat tails at Miami, the talent comes to you. If Erickson would have disciplined those kids at ALL, they would have been truly great. Their \'94 Defnese had Warren Sapp, Kenny Holmes, and Ray Lewis...one wonders how they didn\'t win the National Title. Erickson had a bad stint in Seattle, but basically, so has every other coach that\'s been there. He revived the Oregon State program, took them to the Fiesta Bowl 3 years ago and beat the holy hell out of Notre Dame (who didn\'t belong in that game, Nebraska did).

Erickson will have his hands full with T.O., but if he can instill some discipline, they\'ll have a good coach on their hands.

See Yuz.
