yeah i have finaly got myself a lappy.

i decided to get myself a lappy to save on the whole heap of file transfer from my office PC to my home pc.

so far i have on my office PC over 300 megs of Scientific PDF acrobat files along wil shed loads of my own.

so to save on the sanity i have decided to get myself a laptop to store all my PHD work.

i said to myself i could get another console but i realy coulduse with the flexability ofa laptop.

so i went to the sales and got a

Sony Vaio PCG-FX801

its got a 1400 athlon xp
20 gig HDD
Win Xp
256 Meg ram
and a onboard ATI card.
plus DVD drive (i opted for this as i do not need a rewriter)

yeah were laptop budies ;).

i have to say i am still trying to get used to XP ...for the past 5 years i have been in Win98 land.

I just got a brand new PC right before christmas.  I was thinking about getting a laptop, but it was so much cheaper for the desktop.  I hate XP.  I reformatted my HD and loaded 2000 about 2 weeks after I got it.  It kept crashing after I loaded the drivers for a second External burner

Then the problem was probably the drivers, not windowsXP.

Anyways, congrats on the laptop purchase, but a Sony laptop?  I used to own a Sony Vaio desktop and those things had nothing but problems from the start.  Good luck with that.

Ryu, what do you think of toshiba laptops? I spent months of research before I broke down and bought one. Just wondering what your input might be.

I like my vaio desktop.  Have had no problems at all with it.

The laptops are sweet as well.  I have an HP laptop and every external peripheral has gone out on it.  

CD Rom drive plays music, but data is not read.
No sound card working
USB port will not enable

Downright blows nuts.

thanks guys

the only concern i have with this Lappy is that the Battery pack holder looks a little bother some other than that everything fine, i was going to go for a HP as well :( like for me by the sounds ofthings i didn\'t.

My mother has a Pentium III Lap-Top ( I can not remember the exact MHZ-count, but it was somewhere near 1000 ).

I love lappies.... They\'re much nicer for surfing the internet and writing novels than the stationary computers.
