How much you looking to spend?
PC or Mac?
AVID DS is pretty nice. I think you can get one for around 140 grand.
You can go with smoke or flame for a smooth bill as well.
Media 100 has the 833x which is very nice as well.
I think you can get one for about the same price as an AVID composer at around 70-80grand.
Pinacle is now making software. Just went and looked at Liquid Blue the other day. Nice system for about 50 grand. They have liquid silver at about 30.
Then you can drop way down to Final Cut Pro at a couple grand and Premiere which blows nuts.
Oh yeah, AVID has Express DV 3.5 now which is pretty nice for pretty cheap. I think it\'s just over a grand, but not sure.
Oh, and by the way you spell, I can only assume you can\'t even afford the discs these come on.

Final Cut Pro (Macintosh exclusive).
For the amateur, nothing beats final cut. It is very intuitive and surprisingly powerful.
Of course, you could use Premier. And you could shoot yourself in the face. Choose your poison.
If you are not an amateur(which I doubt otherwise you wouldn\'t have to ask the question) go with the editing tools that bling-bling ballers like Vid use.

 Just do what I did and pay $250 for a Firewire card/Adobe Premiere 6.5 bundle. No matter how much these guys rag on it it is the most sensible solution.
If you were to buy Premiere 6.5 by itself it costs $550. The ADS Pyro Platinum bundle (what I got) comes with the full software and a firewire card for DV cameras, run a search for it on pricegrabber.com for nice deals.
btw- if you\'re a student you can get it student discounted for $230 total here (http://www.gradware.com/ProductDetailT.asp?ProductID=5262).

^^ What he said.
Premiere isn\'t all that bad. If I were to edit something, I\'d get the Matrox RT.X100 real time editing card. It comes with the full version of Premiere and it can do all the shiznitz. Real time editing + real time output of analog, DV and MPEG2.

Premiere is ok if you want to do wedding videos. Outside of that, bah. I spit on you.
Final Cut Pro is alright. Fairly good compositing with the thing. But without the hardware for rendering the thing blows nuts. Takes about 3 seconds to render a simple dissolve on my G-4. Could you imagine editing a show like that? Oh God, the agony.

my friend gave my premiere and i bought a fire wire card with a cable off ebay for 23dollars including shipping. heh

I just looked at a Media 100 844xe today. PRetty cool. 4 channels of video layered in real time. No rendering. Very cool.
Takes every bit of band with though out of a Riad 0. Pretty neat though.
Premiere for free? You got ripped off. :)

Wanna hear something even cooler. After I bought the Pyro/Premiere bundle for $240 I sold Premiere on egay for $310, then the card for $25. Nice way to make $95.
Ok I\'ll be quiet now.

I just use Videowave and/or Primiere. Capture with Virtual Dub

I have one word for you.

Video is teh ghey. Why not just get a Symphony. ;)

maybe investing in spell check software would be a better idea.
btw, Vid was breast-fed until the age of 13
