cuz they cant make consoles that would even match up to sony(playstation) and microsoft(xbox). so all they can do is make games and get a little bit of profit which is probably more than they would making consoles.

Their last console was Dreamcast, dont know why it failed. An amazing system IMO. Gets alot of play here, when I can get it to work :D.

Some of their games are half decent.

Sega was just overwhelmed by the combined forces of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. They just didn\'t make the cut. The fact that they didn\'t have any big name developers didn\'t help either.

They made good consoles but did a shitty job marketing. They released Saturn, which would have done well if they didn\'t screw it up, but they released it too soon and gave developers a shock when they couldn\'t develop games for it.

The first console to use CDs was....wait....Atari\'s Jaguar system? I can\'t recall. Or the Sega CD soon followed by 32X...soon followed by Saturn.

Wow. Competition among your own products. Way to lose business, Sega!

Perhaps a thread to try to get some fanboy arguments going one way or another.. Albeit, there are some fanboys here for one console or another, but generally, I believe this forum respects other\'s views as long as there are decent arguments made.

Anyhoo, no, I don\'t really think it\'s funny though.  Yay, Atari started with cartridge games, and look where that went.. I don\'t exactly get what you\'re getting at, because CD, just like memory and cartridges and tapes and DVDs and hard drives, is simply a media to store information on.  Besides, Sega\'s CD system was basically in development at the same time as Nintendo\'s CD system (aka what is now Playstation).

A media for information isn\'t hardly an advancement in gaming as let\'s say the move from joystick to gamepad, 32x32 pixled screens to fully rendered 3D environments.  I dunno, these are my two cents (by the way, 32x32 is just a random number I pulled out of my butt)

But anyhoo, welcome? to the forums :)

The Dreamcast was actually a very good console with quite a bit of support for it considering the fate of it\'s predecessor. In fact.. I\'ve been much more pleased with the DC\'s library of games than I have been of the GameCube. And it shows, because after all this time I\'m still playing my Dreamcast more than my NGC.

It was making a profit.. but not enough of a profit to keep Sega afloat. Gotta remember.. Sega is one helluva big publisher, second only to Electronic Arts. They own like.. god.. what, 13 development houses or more? They were even in the bidding to buy up Sierra/Blizzard from Havas.. and still might. News of that transaction has slown to a crawl.. so I dunno if Havas is even selling anymore.

Point being.. the Dreamcast could have held its own against the PS2 (much like the N64 did against the Playstation) if Sega wasn\'t bleeding money from their expendatures. Tho it would have been a very tough battle with the release of both the NGC and Xbox looming ahead of them too.

They jus took the smart way out...

The Dreamcast is an excellent console, it\'s right beside my PS2!  I still play it regularly and I still buy games at cheap prices at Toys R Us.  I just got Panzer Dragoon for X Box and it\'s amazing!
