Title: Favorite non-blockbuster movies
Post by: theomen on January 16, 2003, 03:53:28 AM
this is a thread to help people find some movies that are good, but didn\'t have multi-million dollar advertisment budgets.

Two of my favs are Momento and Requiem for a Dream.

Momento is about a man with no short term memory who is trying to solve his wifes murder.  Since her murder, he can\'t make new memories, so he must write himself notes and the likes.  This is a shitty description, but a damn good movie.

Requiem for a Dream is about druggies...

another film along the lines of PI is david lynch\'s first film Eraser Head

BrainDead not the one directed by Adam Simon and with Bill Pullman was the Kind of Follow up but it had a entire new story.

The same style but this time it was just your regular Zombie not the Alien type.

Yeah, the Lynch version. Granted, I don\'t remember much of it now, but when I saw it many years ago it seemed quite bizarre. :)

Clockwork Orange...
Title: Favorite non-blockbuster movies
Post by: mm on January 16, 2003, 08:18:36 AM
clockwork orange is a "blockbuster" movie

existenz sucked.  i remember the box\'s tagline was "better than the matrix"

what other shitty movie would have someone make a gun out of the bones from his dinner plate

"i spit on your grave" (originally called "day of the woman" in unedited version)  was a great film, althogh a bit tasteless

if you wanna see flat out shock horror films, get this one, although you will not find it in yer local rental store.  this is , bar none, THE epitome of shock horror films

cannibal ferox

its banned it just about every major country, but you can get it over the internet

animation by don bluthe (little mermaid)

some stories were pretty cool (WW2 bomber) but most were pretty stupid.

I didn\'t think all that much of clockwork orange........ I can\'t see what all the fuss was about either. Alright, in it\'s day, it might have had shock value, but the ban should have been lifted years ago. After seeing it, I don\'t really see the need for me to see it again.

My choice would be Grand Prix....... I think it got an oscar nomination or two, but I wouldn\'t class it as a blockbuster.

the evil dead trilogy for me.
Title: Favorite non-blockbuster movies
Post by: mm on January 16, 2003, 03:11:26 PM
movies are my forte, plus i worked at blockbuster for 4 (long) years

there were actually 4 evil dead films, in case you didnt know

"within the woods"  was one of sam raimi\'s 1st films

was only about 30 minutes long, but was effectively the prequel to the evil dead series, and even had bruce campbell in it

it will be just about impossible to buy it somewhere now a days, but ive seen a VCD copy of it floating around, if yer that interested in it

it had the same plot as evil dead, but then again, evil dead 2 was also identical to evil dead 1, sans the camera tricks

It\'s a great movie. I believe it had a limited showing around the country. Anybody who likes or plays music should see this movie.

I worked at a video store for several years myself. It was way before everything was computerized with barcodes. We used to love screwing with annoying customers.

Dancer in the dark was horrible. When I was alot younger her and I had a nightly thing going on. Oh the days before the net and porn everywhere.

Back on subject I really like city of the Lost Children.

A somewhat popular, but forgotten movie the Burbs. It is a earlier Tom Hanks movie that very few pay attention to.

Capcom labels \'Dancer in the Dark\' as "artsy-fartsy"..He was over the night I started watching it and walked out and left. :D

Personally, I love it and need to get it on DVD.

Hey MM, you mention Cannibal Ferox, but what about Cannibal Holoacaust? I have heard most people prefer it. Any comments? I may pick \'em up off Ebay, as we seem to typically have the same taste in movies.

you base a movie off whether the female actor is hot or not?

for shame

i would go with ferox instead of holocaust
holocaust was set up as more of a "mock" documentary
it focused more on the brutal slaying on animals, which doesnt really do anything for me
