Yesterday, January 15th 2003, Sony Japan announced that the system Playstation 2 has sold 50 million in the world 3 years after its launching in Japan and 2 in Occident.
The distribution of the 50 million is the following:
PAL Territories: 16.02 million.
USA: 21.48 million
Japan: 12.53 million
TOTAL = 50.03 MILLION OF PS2s.
Is it me or PS2 seems to be a bigger suceed than PSone?

It\'s just you. I think the most successful console beyond both PSOne and PS2 was the Atari Jaguar
-
I didn\'t mean the PS2 is the most suceeding console system in the history. I just say that PS2 can reach an higher number of sales than PSone before the next system is launched.
-
Oh, sorry, I wasn\'t mocking you or anything on that post, just making a sarcastic remark :)
Anyhoo, I sort of think the same that you are thinking about the subject, and would be really interested in seeing sales figures for the first three years of PSone as compared to PS2 and stuff like that (although the market for video games has increased incredibly compared to when PSone was first released).
I would find this information interesting because it\'d give me some idea of where the market is heading, how the video game market is expanding, and stuff like that. I mean I\'m pretty sure that you put all your consoles sales from this generation together and it\'s probably be outselling any other generations in the past.
Chrono? Anyone?

it sell well oversea than it does in Japan. Could it be because of the price drop? PSX backward compatible might have something to do with it.
-
Pretty damned successful.

Where is this from?
Everyone else is stating this as shipped numbers.

PS2 SALES TOP FIFTY MILLION
Quick, run! It\'s another numbers story
14:08 It\'s been a grand old time for Sony just lately. One look at the elaborately plumaged headwear being sported by staff at the console king\'s marble-inlaid office space would be proof enough of their opulence, but the firm had reason to cheer yet again today as the latest grand total of PS2 shipments fell through the jewel-encrusted letterbox and onto the solid gold floor mats, while upper management types started placing orders for yet more cap-decorating feathers - possibly made from very rare golden eagle feathers, possibly not.
It seems that as of January 15th, 2003, Sony\'s games-playing behemoth had found its way into some FIFTY million homes around the world.
What really makes us stagger backwards a few steps and drop our whiskey bottles to the floor in surprise is the fact that by the end of September the total figure was nearer forty million. Which means that, assuming our tenuous Jim Beam-addled grasp of rudimentary mathematics is up to scratch, in the last three and a half months over TEN million PS2s have been sold. Granted, Honest Bob\'s Videogame Emporium down Swannage High Street has been a bit busy of late, but even so...
In case you\'re wondering, and we know that you are, the territory breakdowns are as follows: Uncle Sam naturally formed the biggest chunk of Sony\'s particularly meaty pie, with almost twenty-two million units being shipped State-side. Europe took the second spot with just over sixteen million units, and Japan claimed bronze with twelve and half million.
By way of comparison, September 2002 saw a grand total of ninety-two million PSones nestling under tellies and the like, a figure that had taken Sony some seven years to achieve. Obviously sales don\'t remain linear - sales will always plateau towards the end of a console\'s life - so direct performance comparisons are meaningless. But whatever way you want to interpret these figures (we prefer the medium of modern dance - you should see us bop around the office to the cool sounds of Year-On-Year Profit Warning Reports by Antisoch Technologies), it all adds up to just one thing - the end of mankind as we know... er, Sony\'s dominance of the gaming industry, now and forever more. Amen.
