Title: The good old days
Post by: Titan on January 16, 2003, 07:41:47 PM
Reminice (sp) about the good old days on the older consoles like the Atari, Masters System, NES, SNES, Genesis, ect. up before the PSX. If it wasn\'t too late, I would post mine. I\'ll do it tomorrow.

The coolest times I had on a gaming console were back when I had gotten my NES. I wanted one so bad for at least 8 to 10 months. My friends had gotten one and so I had a chance to play theirs for a little bit each week. I wanted one of my own though. Well, Christmas came and I hurried downstairs to open my gifts. When the smoke cleared I was left with nothing more than a pair of socks and some new underwear. My mom noticed the gloomy face and said to my dad loud enough for me to hear “honey, is that all the gifts for everyone?” He looked around and said, “I think I see one behind the chair there in the corner.” Sure enough, it was my new NES. In all of it’s glory. It came with the multi game pack with Mario and Duck hunt. That was the coolest Christmas ever.

I remember back in the days of NES and Genesis.  I had an NES, and my neighbor had a Genesis.  We\'d spend our days either playing Super Mario Bros. 3 or Altered Beast.  Those were the days :(

I only have NES and Genesis (older consoles). My mom always screwed me out of games except for one or two for Christmas. But those days playing those games were great. I was so elite in some games like Streets of Rage for Genesis that I can\'t even do anymore. I tried playing some of the games recently and I sucked so much it wasn\'t even funny. I still play NES everyso often when I get it to work. I remember playing Ghostbusters 2 for hours trying to beat it when I was little. I never could do it. Last summer, I got so close but lost.

My brother and I were so dedicated to winning the Boy and the Blob that we actually drew maps. That game was so friggin hard. We never beat it. I used to play all the Mario games for hours and still to this day I can\'t beat them. I can get so far and then die. It was the same back when I was little. God I miss those days. I wish I was born earlier.

The night I got NES was when I was about 3. My brother always wanted one. I didn\'t know what it was. We had duck hunt. Man was I so into it. Mario was on there too and me and my brother played for hours and hours on days. I don\'t have many NES games at all. I am going to go into the bargain bin at the local store and get as many as I can just to have them and so I can see what I missed out. Man it was good being a kid back then.

I remember playing the hell outta Fantasy Zone II on my Sega Master System when I was a kid. Took me AGES to finally beat it.. I thought it was impossible.. but once I did.. I\'ve never had a problem with it since.

Ghost House is another game that had me pulling my hair out. I\'ve never beaten that one. I really dont think its possible either.. I mean.. I got to lvl 5 outta 6 lvls and Dracula was just ALL OVER YOU. I couldn\'t take one step without him smackin me in the head again and taking more life.

Bam,Bam,Bam,Bam,Bam,Bam,Dead.......

I can\'t imagine what lvl 6 is like... o_O

I\'ve never beaten Zombie Ate My Neighors...

Damn vampires kept annoying me in the later levels and the victims would always die before I could rescue them in time...

The codes to jump to a level were worthless...

Smurf....was that not the first 3D on console game ever. That controller was a piece of work(gun grip handle with buttons in the grip) especially the speed roller. We must have patched that thing up a dozen times(we used to oil the roller for more speed). What about Zaxxon 3D side scroller for the Colecovision. The football used all the buttons and allowed you to control multiple players. That was cool.

Long live the Sega Saturn!:D

i wouldnt say it was the 1st 3D title, far from it actually

i dunno what was the first title to use "3d" models

actually speaking, no console game was ever 3d
we view them on a flat TV screen, so at best they are 2.5D

Title: I have a pair of 3D glasses.....
Post by: jiggs on February 13, 2003, 05:49:48 PM
While playing Dungeon Seige things appear to come off the screen.(pop-out?) That particular game shines with the 3D glasses others have an appearance of full 3D. Drakan also has awesome 3D images. Empire Earth as well.(gives the images serious depth)

I guess to clarifiy only real life can provide true 3D images to the eye, the games only mimic that effect. Backgrounds ect. appear rendered in 3D but that is just shading and fog.

To me games did not mimic 3D well until Tomb Raider emerged and gaming machines became more powerful. Going from the Genesis to the PSX,Saturn and N64 games did appear to have more depth taking on a 3D look.(compare the Madden on these systems verses the old Genesis and NES where the images were flat against the screen with no depth)

With Smurf The character models were rendered in simulated 3D unlike games of the time where models were flat and had no depth. Even though TV screens are flat it would be no different than looking at the world through a window from one point of view.

The window is flat but the real world image behind it has depth and tells the mind that some objects are closer than others. 3D games attemt to trick the mind to that effect. IMO

I used to have a sega master system + game gear + sega genesis (megadrive) + super nintendo.
when playstation came out, I sold them all and bout the psx for $700.

ahhh, 16 bit consoles were something special... still got best games on emulators for pc.

I had fun with my NES and SNES...but I didn\'t get hooked into gaming until Dreamcast came along.  That was the most fun I\'ve had with a system to date.

Gamecube is putting up a fight for favorite though.

I origionally got hooked with PSX but I played quite a bit NES and Genesis. I didn\'t understand games back then and was too young to be a gamer.

Meh i only played a little atari at first and things like coleco vision but my loves were NES and Genesis w/o a doubt. So i guess SNES "won" the 16 bit battle but to me genesis was... ahhhhhhh :D. Playing sonic one with my older sister or street fighter, and streets of rage. The music was kool too. Then when jaguar and 3do came around i didnt know much and in the gameinformers they said that they were promising so unknowingly i nagged for one or the other and thankfully never got one. Now i have both and got them for free with games, good for collection, yes yes. Uhmmmm and then when i didnt get a saturn i got a psx for my sisters bday, (she never played as much so i took it :p). Thats when i became pseudo-hardcore. The rest is all gravy and will be told in a new age of reminiscing. And that as they say is that.

(yeah long i know   )
