Now its been released whats your opinions on the game?
What would make it better???
Personally i think the game is ace but could do with some music like radio stations as seen in GTA\'s but thats my opinion whats urs?
-
That\'s the problem, we compare it with GTA and it\'s a different game. With a better gameplay, it would be a very cool game.
-
sorry it was released today? (Europe or US):sconf:
-
Last I heard 1/23 for US. Tommy is from the UK
-
Yeah I thought it was released next week in the U.S. oh well.
-
The game is completely super cool!! Way better than GTA.
-
The missions are very good, once completed the free roam mode gets fairly boring.
-
man I can\'t wait to play this game.. it\'s gonna be so badass
-
I went and prepaid for it today at EB, they said it will be out the 23
-
Is there an option to play as the cop?

Hah ! they must \'ave improved the USA version becuz our PAL
version was very nice still very unpolished (glitchy and a bit unbalanced) The game scores 85 outta 100 in my book though.

Yes there is, you do the first 12 missions as Mark Hammond (bad guy) and the second 12 as a plain clothed detective. Once completed you can go back and re-do any mission you like or just play the newly unlocked free roam mode.:)
-
I got it today, and my impressions are thus:-
The graphics are spot on, though there is some slowdown in places. The missions are a lot harder that GTAVC.......I only finished the first one, the mission where you have to torch the restaurant is giving me a bit \'o jip. I spent most of my time on it this afternoon just driving round in a bus.
One area they could have made an improvement on is in including an in game map of some sort, or failing that, a simple compass that appears with the click of a button for 5 or 10 seconds or so. I found myself just driving round not knowin what direction I was going in.

But the indicators tell you exactly how to get to where you are going
I think they work perfectly.
-
I\'m not talking about that, I meant when you want to just drive around. If you wanted to try and find a certain landmark, you are up shit creek if you are not familiar with the back streets of London. Without at least knowing which way is north, you don\'t know whether you are coming or going. I managed to catch a glimpse of Big Ben out of the corner of my eye, so I had some idea of how to get to (for instance) Buckingham Palace. Whereas if I wanted to find my way there from scratch, I wouldn\'t have a clue where I was going.

PlanetPS2 gave it a 74. I hope this isn\'t a other let down

Ok, they\'ve written a nice review, but the 74 score is really too low imho. The directional indicators on the car, the lack of hud
health meter..... it\'s all more a matter of taste i think. Becuz one
really picks up the \'hints\' the game is giving the player about
the \'health status\' for example. Ok, so PlanetPs2 nags about the
cam in on-foot action ; just tap L2 and quickly the cam alligns to
Mark\'s line of sight again. This works similair like to Silent Hill2.
Then there\'s the auto aim. Just tap the L1 button as fast if you
can in a heavy firefight. That\'s the perfect way to take out alot
of targets quickly. The only problem I encountered with it is when Mark is exactly in between two opponents. If you hold down auto
aim the system can\'t really decide to take out which one. My advice is ; take one of \'em out manually aimed, then the other.
If you\'ve held auto aim down, the system wouldn\'t have decided between the 2baddies quickly enough and by that time you would\'ve taken multiple bullets. And the game is not anymore twitchy than any other good game. I remember bumping into obstacles more in MGS2 with Raiden than here in The Getaway with Mark Hammond. But like I said earlier, I rate the game 85. Hehe, but maybe that\'s also a bit becuz London charmed me alot when I was there on vacation a few years ago.

I prefer to just hit the R1 button whenever you enter a new room. If any baddies are there, BOOM, it locks on.

I\'ve read numerous reviews stating that the autoaim system is inconsistant, when I find it works perfectly, 100% of the time..
-
ow, sorry.. my bad. I meant the R2 button yeah.. silly me :nut:
Btw, you\'ve reached the art gallery in Hyde Park yet ? Make sure
you listen to the art visitors\' conversations before killing off the
Triad guards. They\'re really funny. I won\'t spoil to much though if you haven\'t reached that level yet becuz it\'s packed with humurous stuff. Oi ! \'Ave some of that, I\'d say...
-
I dont always trust gamespy, they don\'t always get the right info. There is no dought that I\'m going to get the game this Wednesday. I just hate getting hipped up on a game then it dosn\'t deliver

Is that the 3rd mission? I have finally just got past the one where you have to torch the restaurant.
Are there no online maps that you can copy and print out for the game?
-
There is a map here that I printed out. It has the hidden cars marked on it too, so don\'t use it if you don\'t want to know where they are!

I\'ve already prepayed. I like a good story line. i guess I like the leaner(sp) games more then the open ended one\'s. I just hope the story line is as good as some have said.
-
it seems American reviews just don\'t like the game. Meh :o
pff I like it, and I like London.
-
does any of the game take place at night? all i see is day shots.

no its all set during the daytime as all the missions run straight after each other.
remember your against the clock to save your son.
-
oh man that sounds crap. how about the free roam mode? does that have realistic time? also what exactly can you do in free roam? just drive around aimlessly and get lost? are there any mini missions or anything at all?
man this game is sounding worse and worse. i think i\'m just going to rent it now.

You can:
1) Drive around
2) Kill people
3) Find the secret cars
I love this game :D

I guess you hate games such as Medal of Honor and Halo as well?
All games should feature mini-missions! Despite if they don\'t fit into the game structure!!
GUYYZZZZ! Medal of Honor would have been DA BOMB if you could walk up to a NAZI and the NAZI tells you to go steal a remote control buggy and drive it around NAZI-VILLE!!!11~!~ OMGF ROFLMEOW!~!```~```` wtf OMG!11`
-
Yo Bob my old friend... i got to agree with you.The people especially Greg Kassavin did not know how to shoot a real gun in real life.He don\'t even know what is "FRONT SIGHT APETURE",the
/\\ on the barrel in manual aim.
By the way Gamespot Australia gave GETAWAY " 9 "
Heres the link

Hey Waspy, how\'s the guitar playing going? :)
I must admit, though, that the GameSpot review was much better than (for example) the IGN review. They didn\'t just take the score down for trivial faults that were actually their own failings (the game should come with a map [which it does], the indicators don\'t lead you down the right streets, etc.)
-
I kind of play it(guitar) occasionally though.Im getting too old for this..my hand kind of cramps sometimes you know.
Anyway, the camera and control issues are blown out of proportion.People who complain about it are those who did not put in effort to practise.I just read from a forum where this guy don\'t even know the manual aim existed until he reach level 7.
Then the camera can be controlled by holding R2 and moving the left analog stick. To centre the cam just press r2 once.
Anyway im currently having fun with Getaway and Rygar.
-
Strange thing is, I don\'t even use manual aim. Ever. Well, unless I want to kill civilians.
The auto-aim works perfectly for me everytime, I don\'t need to use the manual.
-
The manual aim is useful when you are far from the cops shooting range.I like to park my vehicle 50 meters away from the pesky cops and manual aim at their heads using my beloved AK-74.One shot is all i need.
Anyway some people here don\'t even know that most of Hammonds missions are not timed, therefore you can already free roam on the second stage and you can have police chase for as long as you want.
Another factor which people may forget .....the thing that makes Getaway outstanding from other Crime Sims is that if the police force are too overwhelming..get a PROTECTION....get a PEDESTRIAN.
The cops will submit to you and you\'ll execute them at your leisure.

Medal of honour was crap on PS2 but Halo was good. anyway those are FPS\'s so they don\'t compare to getaway with is a TPS comparing to GTA 3 or VC. so there. also it didn\'t take either of those first games 3 years of hype and bullshit as \'THE BEST GAME EVARR" on to show up as somewhat sub-par game. if the getaway wasn\'t hyped so bloody much, i would have probably thought it was a decent game.
why did they include free roam if they DIDN\'T want you to drive around?
-

The Getaway more resembles something like Halo, than Grand Theft Auto. At least as far as it\'s linearity is concerned.
Mini-missions would be fun, but ultimately, would not make any sense to be included in the game.
also it didn\'t take either of those first games 3 years of hype and bullshit as \'THE BEST GAME EVARR"
Who the hell ever said that? The only hype about this game was that it\'s graphics would be amazing.
why did they include free roam if they DIDN\'T want you to drive around?
Because they created a huge virtual city, they included the mode some that some people could actually go exploring if they were so inclined, but never had the opportunity to during the regular missions.
-
LOL im sad now im spoiled by playing Getaway.
Getaway has spoiled me in terms of graphics.Very hard to play other crime sims now that do not match getaway graphics...
lol....
-
I thought that the game was great, the camera would up from time to time. the cops were more aggressive then GTA. You woulkd get a good car like a BMW and the first thing they would do is shot out you tires. But I had to take it back. The other night my 2yr son comes out and tells me "get off the fing road". So that ended that
-
Well, for all the shortcomings The Getaway has... I think Soho Studio learnt alot from just developing the whole game. I bet
the next stuff from them will be great. The basic engine is there,
now there\'s plenty of time for improvements in The Getaway add
on missions.
About all those ppl who complain about the controls and the cam... yeah I think they\'re lazy too. They didn\'t bother to get into it. They\'re spoilt. I mean.. at first I thought the controls sucked bigtime. First mission at Charlies warehouse I died a dozen times.
Then I got the hang of it. Works for me.:bounce:
-
I bought the Getaway last week and I don\'t see anything wrong with it. I thinks its a steal for $39.99 (US) so I picked it up. I\'m glad I took the risk after reading the reviews about the game. Its money well spent compared to some other purchases I had made in the past.
