Title: Bowling for Columbine
Post by: fastson on January 18, 2003, 02:58:18 PM
Has anyone seen it yet? If so what do you think?

It seems very funny from watching some of these clips http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/media/clips/index.php (especially the cartoony one, and the one where he\'s in the bank)..

They\'re showing Michael Moore\'s TV-show on TV here, I like them and Im thinking about going to see his film.

The film is absolutely awesome.  I saw it the weekend it opened in the US, a couple months ago.  It\'s very thought provoking, because the gun ownership issue in the US is not nearly as black-and-white as many people make it out to be.

I thought the movie sucked... very liberal slant.

EDIT:  I will get into more detail when I have the time.

Hehehe you already knew I would hate this movie ;) Seriously though, it will have to wait as I already debated this in another forum not too long ago.  I am really not up for it right now.

I just don\'t understand why you call it "liberal slanted."  The issue of the film is not a conservative vs. liberal debate.  It\'s a gun-nut vs. rational persons debate.  I think there can be gun-nuts and rational people on both ends of the political spectrum.  Though I\'ll admit that most gun-nuts tend to skew toward the conservative end.

Also, as I mentioned, the issues Michael Moore raised are not cut and dried.  There are no simple answers in that film.  He reveals our national fascination with gun ownership to be much more complicated than most people assume.

I thought it was absolutely great.  Probably the single best thing I saw last year.  I would definitely recommend seeing it if you can.

And Giga, of course it had a liberal slant.  You couldn\'t expect anything different from Michael Moore.  I agree with Coredweller though, one thing it did was showed that there is no simple solution to such a problem.  It really did an incredible job revealing the complexities of the issue.  Personally, it was great for me, since I agree with everything that was said in the movie.  Either way though, agree with what he said or not, do we really have to turn this into a political debate?

Core, Shockwaves answered the liberal slant question perfectly.  As for your question Shockwaves, its a very political movie and is quite open for debate.  Anyway, I could cut and paste from my other debate on this, but the other group is not quite as knowledgable about politics as this group so I will save it for another day.
