Title: Internet Connection Sharing...
Post by: 182Ways on January 19, 2003, 07:16:16 PM
Wasn\'t sure where to put this topic since it also relates to the PS2 Network Adapter, but eh...

I purchased my NA today with plans to take my PS2 online using WinXP\'s Internet Connection Sharing so as to save myself from having to buy a router, but after installing everything I can\'t seem to get a signal over to my PS2.

My setup is like this: I have my computer installed with two network cards, one of which is connected to my cable modem and the other to the NA on my PS2. But for some reason, the status of the card that is connected to my PS2 always reads "Network cable unplugged." I\'ve made sure that all connections were secure and that the cards are in working condition, but I can\'t seem to locate the source of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Routers by themselves are very cheap if you know where to look.  It\'s best to just shell out the dough rather than tinkering with Windows ICS (which sucks).  Here\'s a 4-port router for $8.76 after rebate:

Speedstream 4-port router (http://www.officedepot.com/shop/catalog/sku.asp?ID=616096&LEVEL=SK&SID=2U9S6T7WV04D8PJXW9XJAQK4Q4XB3WV2&PP=14) - look at the box to the left for the prinatable rebate.  There\'s also the Speedstream wireless 4-port router AND 10/100 switch for $33 after coupons and rebates.  Directions:

Click here (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=9eASk0x48lo&subid=1&offerid=27778.1&type=10&tmpid=988&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.officedepot.com%252Foffers%252Fsave.asp%2520&RD_PARM2=offers%252Fsave.asp%2520) for a linked coupon.  Enter coupon code: 16006100 for $25 off a $75+ purchase (expires 1/31/03).  Search for: 615853.  And the ever lovable $30 MIR (http://209.69.149.201/sku/showrebate.asp?sku=615853).  Sound good?

I used to go the ICS route too with multiple computers though.  One thing I learned was that when having more than one NIC in a computer it\'s best to have 2 different brands of cards in there.  2 Netgears was giving me problems but then I went with a Netgear and SMC and everything worked fine.  I still recommend the routers but just fyi. :)

Make sure the cable between the ps2 and your pc is a crossover cable and not just a plain jane ethernet.

Yeah, I found out the cable was the problem. :)  I went out and bought a crossover cable earlier today and setup was successful, though I haven\'t tried playing any games online yet so I dunno if everything is as it should be.  I\'ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Thanks for the help, guys.
