Title: Gamecube lens cleaning
Post by: guar on January 22, 2003, 10:51:03 AM
Ok, I realize this may be the wrong  forum but here I go.
Anyone ever clean the lens on their gamecube? I was at EB games today and they said that there is no lens cleaner disc.
I checked a gamecube forum and could find no info. My GCN
is working fine, I was just wondering what to do if problems
arise. I\'m guessing one would use something like a moistened
q-tip on the lens? Thanks ahead for any input.

Yeah, best not to mess with delicate things such as lenses. Leave it to those with the know-how. :)

I\'ve actually cleaned the lense on my PS2 myself. I searched the web on how to properly take the case off coz if you\'re not careful you can damage the datacable from the dvdrom. After that it was a piece of cake. Just used a q-tip and some alcohol and gently wiped the lense off. I dunno how hard it is to open the GC but I\'m sure it isn\'t that hard.

Actually the lens is exposed in the gamecube. I just wasn\'t sure if
rubbing alcohol would hurt it.

Just put it into your washing machine and remember to put lots of washing liquid.

Guarantee to work.

Oh ok, kinda like the PSX then. Only seen the GC in pictures so I didn\'t know. Should be a piece of cake then.

If you really want to be carefull, don\'t use a q-tip, it may leave lint.  Go to a photography store, and buy some lens paper (it\'s super soft, lint free paper for cleaning)... or use kim-wipes, or some other computer screen cleaning item.

Then use a non abrasive fluid, I use Swish CRT cleaner (again, it\'s for monitors, but works wonders on camera lenses, or fine optics).

Guaranteed not to mess up clear items :).

Yeah that might be the best idea. But you should be able to see if any lint stays on tho. But yeah, do what Fatal said :)
