What novels do you think would make great motion pictures? Here are some of mine:
Replay by Ken Grimwood. Actually it was supposed to be in production with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, but I haven\'t heard much lately. The project may have fallen apart.
Foundation and so on by Isaac Asimov. Actually I wish they would start with the Robot Novels and produce everything as motion pictures. However, since the word "Foundation" is the cornerstone of this franchise, they would probably have to start in the middle of the story. :(
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. Many of his other stories have been filmed, but this one is probably too dark and depressing to make a conventional horror film.
Necroscope and so on by Brian Lumley. I think these would make excellent movies.
A Matter for Men and the other War Against the Chtorr novels by David Gerrold
Sundiver and so on by David Brin
The Weatherman by Steve Thayer
I wish someone would make one more GREAT Vietnam war movie based on one of the truly great novels that haven\'t been adapted yet. I\'m talking about Close Quarters by Larry Heinemann, or Going After Cacciato by Tim O\'Brien, or The 13th Valley by John Del Vecchio.

The Hobbit - or there and back again
by J.R.R. Tolkien
After the initial succession of the Lord of the Rings -trilogy, turning the Hobbit into a full-lenght movie would be a very wise decision.
Jackson hasn\'t replied with a \'yes\' or \'nay\' yet. When asked about the possibility of the Hobbit becoming a movie, he has been very uncertain - although leaning towards \'yes\' more than \'nay\'.
I\'d love to see it happen.

Great topic! Unfortunately for the topic the one I was most hoping for is already out... LOTR ;)
I always wanted to see Red Storm Rising.

The Difference Engine
by William Gibson, Bruce Sterling
A collaborative novel from the premier cyberpunk authors, William Gibson and Bruce Sterling. Part detective story, part historical thriller, The Difference Engine takes us not forward but back, to an imagined 1885: the Industrial Revolution is in full and inexorable swing, powered by steam-driven, cybernetic engines. Charles Babbage perfects his Analytical Engine, and the computer age arrives a century ahead of its time.

this book is the one that the old Amiga game “the chaos engine” was based on.

Yes, Snow Crash was an awesome novel, though I enjoyed Cryptonomicon more. I think Snow Crash suffers from the same disability that all those so-called "Cyberpunk" novels do when it comes to movie adaptation. It\'s a difficult pitch, guaranteed expensive production, and uncertain track record with audiences. I don\'t think this one will ever get made.
-
Any one of Frank Peretti’s books. The only problem is that the movies would have to be rated R for the violence as depicted by the spiritual warfare.

the pillars of the earth

yeah me neither, me and my good buddy were just talking about this the other day actually.
could you imagine the budget it would take to do snow crash properly?
good lord.

I agree that it would be cool to see Snow Crash as a movie, however unlikely.
I\'d also like to see Michael Crichton\'s Timeline made into a movie.

THE DARK ELF series there is like 15 books and the game Baulders Gate is kinda based on it in a way Dizzt is the main character from the books.
-
Frederick Pohl\'s Gateway
I am quite a Sci/Fi -nut myself - and I read such authors as Pohl, Dick and Asimov frequently. Pohl\'s Gateway - one of the greatest SF novels I have ever read - would make a great off-stream movie if made with love.
I am now very intrigued about Neal Stephenson and his work. I love cyberpunk, and \'thus I will have to check the local library tomorrow...
-
I just thought of another. Someone should film one or more of Michael Moorcock\'s "Eternal Champion" stories. Of course the most famous is the Elric of Melnibone stories. Those are cool, but to me they are not really the best. I think I would prefer the Hawkmoon / Count Brass stories. Ah well, no one would ever go see those movies. :(

a old BBC Radio series called "journey into Space" has the same kind of story line.
try looking for a website on it... it might say if it was based on or similar too this book of yours.

I think they already are making a international movie out of this..
Its about a knight fighting in the holy crusade during 1000-1100. I\'ve not read the books yet but I\'ve heard they are excellent.

Are you a Christian project? \'This Present Darkness\' was one of the best Christian/Spiritual novels EVER, but I do agree that to do it justice, it would have to have a R rating, as its a very violent book.
I would also love to see \'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe\' made into a full on movie series. The TV series was ok, but I think a big budget series would be excellent. Props to C.S. Lewis for the outstading series.
-
I\'d like to see The Lost World made into a book.
-
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley..
Anyone see Gattaca? The idea is similar, but not quite the same.
-
WTF? Brave New World has been filmed 2-3 times already!

racer- did you click the link in my post above? "Out Of The Silent Planet" and its companions are a profoundly religious trilogy by Lewis...

Really? I would really like to see them.... Are they any good?
Anyway, I would like to see them made right now. Something in this generation. I\'m only 18, not 35. ;)

Prey by Michael Crichton. It\'s actually bound to become a movie since all of his stuff usually does, but this one would be very impressive effects wise. It\'s also pretty scary stuff since humans are on the verge of breaking the threshold of nanotechnology and fully independant AI.
-
Ignore Ryu...Prey, although a good book (so far) doesn\'t seem like movie material. Michael Crichton\'s novel before Prey, "Timeline," would make an extremely good movie! A time travel piece where a group of archeologist go back to the 14th century to save one of their professors. Lots of action, tiny romance, and a whole boat load of really cool medieval weapons!

You guessed it man. Just read my journal if you need the whole story. As for C.S.Lewis, you got that right! I would love to see his books come to life in movie form. I had heard somewhere that they were already in production but nothing more than whispers. And as for the space trilogy CHIZZY, that is another I would like to see as well.
-
 "Ignore Ryu" ? whoa whoa whoa, you couldn\'t ignore me if you tried. ;) Besides, Prey would dazzle the audience with special effects but I can\'t say how. It would give too much of the plot away.
-
i would love it if someone made Tom Clancy\'s Rainbow Six into a movie. The book starts off slow but once u get past that then its a great book. They were supposed to make one but iv never heard anything about it for about a year. I dont remember the list of actors but they werent too good. hopefully their just thinking it out and not destroying the idea of making the movie.
-
Hannibal ... What? You mean it already has been? Oh, sorry I couldn\'t tell. I just remember this butchered movie that was suppose to be Hannibal..
;)
-
ryu fox has already bought the rights to make prey a movie
as for timeline i dont know if it will be made a movie. I got it monday night and finished it wednesday night. i would like to see it a movie.
-
The wheel of Time series.
I dont think it will ever happen though considering that right now the series is somehwhere in the 10-12 thousand page mark.
But hey, you never know.

How would you know if I couldn\'t ignore you? ;) And I think Timeline would dazzle audiences more than Prey. Timeline requires more special effects anway. So blah!:p

I actually just purchased the entire Narnia set, its in one book, containing all 8 novels, in reading order. I am nearly finished \'The Magician\'s Nephew\' and about to start LWW.
Its an excellent series, probably one of the best pieces of literature EVER.

some of the Terry Pratchitt "discworld" series would make for a funny LOTR-type spoof... Imagine a quest where the group meets up with a barbarian who\'s 80 years old, has no teeth, and has a hemmorroid ring on his saddle....
