Title: Eminem?
Post by: Jumpman on January 23, 2003, 05:07:45 PM
The guy is (unfortunately) probably the most popular male music dude since Kurt Cobain. I was curious to what everyone thought about him and his music.

First of all, I hate rap, so my opinion on his music wouldn\'t be the greatest. I do think it is very good for what it is. The amount of hate in his albums is undiscribable. I think his albums are slowly improving in quality and originality.

I have nothing against him as a person. He\'s doing what he pleases and seems to be very intelligent in his interviews.

And here\'s a picture of him in his early days as the biggest thug ever.

I think he is very talented. Although I don\'t listen to much rap, he is redefining the genre. How many other rappers can stay on one subject? Eminem is the only rapper I feel that puts his thoughts and feelings into his songs. His songs aren\'t just some brag-fest like ALL the others.

Of course, if this was the late-80s, early-90s, I would have something different to say.

IMO he is the greatest lyricist in rap, ever.  An absolutly amazing writer, and extremely skilled rapper.

Unfortunetly this thread will be killed off by people who say rap sucks.

Don\'t be such a racist ****wit. Just because he is white doesn\'t mean he can\'t rap, same with black people doing altn rock.

God, I thought this kinda attitude died years ago.

Eminem is cool. I haven\'t heard a song yet by him that has the words "platinum","ferrari", and "ballin". Rap this days is just plain stupid. I mean even IM starting to listen to J\'lo, shakira, and all those pop people. The only rap im sticking with is Eminem, SPM, BTNH, and all the rappers that have gotten over the fact they got money.

Pop is making a big comeback I think.

Proof - Kylie Minogue

I think everyone is gettin a little tired of all these rappers singing about bangin hoe\'s in their new red Ferrari\'s.

His lyrical writing abilites are outstanding.  As far as how he conducts himself;  I hate the man.

I also care not for rap, but he does write catchy lyrics nonetheless.

On a whole, I think Eminem is sub-par but as a rapper he\'s great.

Yeah I got nothing. :(

I always figured he\'d be more of a skittle person, myself.

And Racer, pop is dying.  Slowly but surely.

When will Metal become a (the?) dominant music style, again? :(

Were you even alive in the early 90\'s?

Post by: Jumpman on January 23, 2003, 10:39:33 PM
Dude, grunge was all there was in the early 90\'s. Nirvana and Pearl Jam were immensely popular. Probably the two biggest bands of the 90\'s(Nirvana being bigger of the two on a whole). Smells Like Teen Spirit was probably the most played rock song of the 90\'s. Grunge was teh shiznett.

Grunge died when Kurt Cobain killed himself though.

Don\'t you mean when Courtney shot him?

As for pop dying\' - its slower than usual, but it\'ll never die, because we will always have teenage girls who go goo-goo over cute boys, we\'ll always have soccer moms who love songs about eternal lust and love. The market will always remain.

By the way - grunge was huge in the 90\'s. It was what "rap" is today. The popular genre. Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and many other bands was huge hits.

Eminem is the Nirvana of today - although the musical genre is quite different. Why? Because Eminem is controversial, original and has a "so-what? f*ck the television" attitude, much like Nirvana once had. He does whatever he wants, and the crowd follows.

Eminem isn\'t bad. I don\'t like rap in general - I hate phat, 1337-like rappers such as P. Diddy and Jay-Z - but Eminem gets my vibes goin\' every now and then. His latest album, The Eminem Show, is great - better than his previous work.

I have nothing against the guy either. He has succeeded through hard work, end of story.

Courtney was in a drub rehab center when he shot himself(she was out when the body was found, but SHE wasn\'t even in Seatle at the time).

I don\'t even think she was beyind it. After reading a biography on him called "Heavier Than Heaven", I\'m 75% sure that he did kill himself. The guy was just so messed up all his life. Its sad because it all started with his parents getting divorced at the age of 7(?) and it all went downhill from there. I would go into detail but you should really check the book out. Great read on a great man.

And you are correct about the bands you named. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden were the big three when it came to grunge.

Nirvana>Pearl Jam. And Ten>Vitalogy>Vs>all the crap since then.

I find that Eminem and even Nirvana were very television friendly, they were just very anti-everything-ish. Although in Kurt\'s case, a lot of just was just well planned out material to boost his career...

Oh, and Kurt Cobain>Eminem. No comparasion.

dmx can
outkast can
nas can
redman can
method man can
all of the cats from wu-tang can

many many more, and that is just rap, dont let me get started on hiphop.

Well, as far as my taste of rap goes, I believe that rap that sucks is the rappers who brag about all the cash they made, and all the prostitutes they "earned" by being radio-friendly. Please.

Eminem, Dre, and DMX. That\'s it for me.

See Yuz.

i dont like him, i thinks he is a bit of a dick, but totally respect his musical talent, and "his story" or whatever, but like he has real talent as a\\ rapper, but what he raps about, well kinda makes him not seem so serious...

i loved his first 2 albums, his d12 album and his new album sucked imo...

personally i dislike rap music now, its started to become way to pop for me

He has guts... I mean standing up their saying what he thinks and feels, in a mostly black music industry. I have a feeling something may happen to him (assassination maybe) because some of his lyrics are very controversial, and have sparked some rivalry and violenece. I\'m not a rap fan, trust me. But as a musical artist I think he\'s pretty good. He just better watch out, tension is building, and sooner or later. *pow*

I doubt he\'ll be assassinated.  He has toned his lyrics down a bit and managed to make every one of his albums better than the previous.  The Eminem Show is amazing.

As for what hes holding in the picture....it looks like a birthday cake...
