Let me first start off that this was suppose to be the game for me. Devil May Cry is by far IMHO is the best game for the ps2. I have beaten DMC including DMD mode, S ranks on everything. Not to mention even when I finished all of that I kept on playing. I think I gave up playing DMC after 60+ hours. Needless to say I was a huge fan of DMC.
Now to DMC 2. After about 1 hour of playing it I am now on level 10 or 11 I do believe. I think there is suppose to be either 18 or 21 levels for Dante. This is without dying one single time. Heck I have not even had to use a orb, and am very rarely forced to go into Devil mode. Does anyone else see a problem here? I sure do. Plus I think I have fought 2 or 3 bosses. I am not sure because they seem about the same as regular bad guys. It took me a bit longer to beat them, but no fear of dying. Once again does anyone else see anything wrong here?
Now so far as the gameplay goes. You of course know you can run up walls. Let me say I have found no use for it other than to breakup the boredom I am experiencing with this game. Dante is now floaty. When you jump up in the air, and fire. You kind of levitate. If you did not do a double jump then when you start to fall, then you can jump again and do your levitation. Sounds cool eh? Well it was for the first few times, but now it is just annoying. I want down where the action is getting higher stats for more orbs. This jump float negates that possibility as I see it. Thus making it tougher to buy upgrades, or what they call upgrades. Though the way it is going it may not be necessary to buy any. It\'s that easy. You can now also shoot two different direction. I must say this is useless since I have seen baddies just standing there waiting for you to come up and slash them with the sword. :(
There is somthing new to Devil May Cry. Puzzles!!!! Not any ordinary puzzle, but really silly ones. This is not a spoiler since I don\'t know I solved it. It told me to light blue torches or some non-sense. So 4 blue orbs come out of the floor. They are seperated by tiny walls you can jump over. Well I thought you had to hit all 4 of them in a set time (before the walls and them repositioned themselves) Well I was wrong. After about 10 minutes of slashing it just gave up or somthing and just let me through.
devil mode has changed quite a bitlso. You start off with Devil mode, but his Devil mode is not the same You mix jewls to give you different abilities. Like speed versus flying. I realize it sounds cool, but there is no flying without the jewel. Not to mention everything you do jewel wise you could do in DMC 1 without jewels.
Graphics are ok in this game. Though it is tough to tell sometimes because the camera is pulled so far back. If you thought DMC 1 had some doozy camera angles. Just wait till you try this one. They are just as bad only pulled back. My biggest gripe with graphics is maybe not the graphics themselves. Do you remember how in DMC it had cool intro\'s to new bad guys. They are gone If they are there there is nothing dramatic about them.
Bottom line about this game. If you want a great game to suck put a video game reviewer in charge of it, and not the team that is the mac dad. I wish this game had come out on the gamecube just so the same team would do this game again.
If you beat Devil May Cry in DMD mode. You will probably be like me, and snoozing through this game. It\'s boring, and it sucks. It has some good concepts, but they were not able to pull them off. Feakin sad for me.
BTW Lic don\'t buy this game. Iwill show you the dissapointment at your houe this weekend.

Ouch.
The same developer form DMC didn\'t do DMC2?
-
The same developer did, but not the same team or director.
-
After play it more I have to aggree with Capcom. I just reached level 10 and the bosses are not heard at all most of the time just stay out of raing of them. I still fins it fun but it isnt as good as the first one, and Dante isnt the smart ass that he was before
-
It recieved a 7 from IGN and no score thus far from Gamespot.

Gamespot will rip it to shreds. IMHO
If I do finish this game it will just be Dante\'s disk. Any other game I would have shelved it already.
-
Gamespot will feed this one to the wolves without a doubt, especially if Greg Kasavin gets ahold of it.
-
Are there different difficulty levels?
This really bites. It was my most anticipated game this year.

I just lost my will to live.

Cheer up Hawke.
You\'ll always have Frequency. :bounce:

I was expecting a regular sequel... :(

You are forced to start off on normal which is easier than automatic easy on DMC. After you beat normal there are tougher difficulties, but I am doubting it gets that hard.

you were forced to start under normal with DMC
you had to unlock Hard and the other modes through play.
i for one found the larning curve between normal , and hard etc as to steep for my like\'n
plus the 1000 floor tower and the ability to play on two disks must add something to it.
plus i am going to hold my Judgement on this one, i have read some good reviews on it.
And wasn\'t the first one a Love or hate one too.
i know many people who thought the first DMC sucked Monkey Nuts.
me still awaits the PAL version.

Normal is too easy though. It gave up on trying to stylish because the game seems to make you run around with the gun fire button pushed. This game is alot more gun oriented than the first one. I hate to say it, but I found the tougher difficulty of DMC kept me going. No clue on the 1000 tower. If I decide to finish this game I will tell you about it this weekend.
Like I said before. I have yet to die once, and that is tough to believe in DMC. It\'s just not right!!!
EDIT: My taste is not the same as most people when it comes to games. I thought one of the few exception was DMC. Anyhow my impression should not be used as a review, but just a second thought as to if you buy this game outright, or rent it first.
-
You are a tough person to please man. its good so far. i will agree with you that the one puzzle in he floor thing was stupid, but, i just started and Im having fun playing it.
-
Close call, on my part, because I just got off work and stopped at Wal-Mart to find a copy. They didn\'t have any! I have four days off, so you better show me it sometime this weekend...
Damn shame that you\'re so dissapointed.
:(
-
It got 7\'s from EGM too...awful story, poor targeting, lacks innovation, ok visuals, ridiculously easy, and lacks the "punch" of the first game.
Sounds like a rental to me:)
-
looks like it doesn\'t have the same WOW the first one had...
-
Will do Lic. Tonight if you get up?
MpTheory did you play DMC 1 quite a bit? Like through DMD mode? I think maybe if a person did not then they would like this game more.
-
Let\'s hope Capcom delay the european release so they can iron out all the problems.
-
:( :crying:
It cant be THAT bad.Can it?

I guess per say it is not that bad. The thing is it does not have the same DMC feel that everyone is use to. Or atleast for me that is what it is.
-
A remark from a different board which fits well here
I think much of the \'disappointment\' many seem to have for th game just range from the fact that the original was SO FREAKN incredible and such a new experience that many people had vastly unreal expectations for the sequel.
I\'m not defending the practice but I\'ve come to expect to see no more from a sequel like this than an upgrade in looks (on PS2 at least) and a change in scenery.
Capcom It gave up on trying to stylish because the game seems to make you run around with the gun fire button pushed
Does that mean using the sword is too much of a challenge? Me no understand  Why not use the sword more if the game is too easy with guns?

But the original DMC feel rocked damn it.It was a game of skill.A game where you created style from skill.
I am buying it for sure though. But I expected it to be better.

This is no upgrade. Sure it has the character Dante, but that is about it. The way you leveled everything up in the first is pretty much gone. The coolness factor has left the game. The director left it for what I can only imagine is what he believes an action game should be. An upgrade would be the same game with a different levels, but the same core game. You will realize this is not the same game when you fight an entire boss battle not seeing the boss, but for a moment every now and again.
I have done that also. For one thing bosses for the most part require a gun. Not to mention the the lock on system feels a bit different. Heck alot of the times your camera is pulled so far back Dante looks like you are mile above. he seriously looks to be the size of an ant at places. This kind of negates your sword idea.
-
i cannot believe im reading bad things about dmc2, i was expecting something amazing from it.. i hope they aint ruined it
-
Just read the review in IGN.It sounds like a total dissapointment.:(
-
By upgrade I meant visuals. Have heard some wowing about graphics but outside of larger levels, nothing specific. An ant sized Dante- seriously?
Truthfully, while I enjoyed the first one, a sequel wasn\'t going to interest me much unless almost everyone raved about it. Going by the accounts even of those having a lot of fun with 2 so far, I see nothing more than a rent in my future. Really sorry to hear it was a big let down for ya Cap. How about finishing to see if it picks up for you in a harder mode next time through?
-
Playing it now, as I type this. The first thing I noticed that has changed is the fact your sword is no longer a must use item. Infact, you can just stand in the middle of the enviroment and shoot and you\'ll have no problems what-so-ever. The game is no longer about makin\' long stylish combo\'s and what not..
-
there is a rumor that you can play as trish and there are alternate outfits!!!!!
:hat:ScottyJ:hat:
-
Well, Greg didn\'t do the review, but the score is just about what I expected.
6.4 (http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/0,11114,561241,00.html) <-- click for gamespot review
-
A very poor game by the reviews! Too bad, but sometimes sequels turn out like shit.
-
Who\'d want to play as Trish? And alternate outfits are the standard secert in every game, for the last five years.
-
SUCKED!!
Those people at capcom are on dope, if I knew DMC2 was going to be this shitty, I wouln\'t have spent 6 dollars renting it, good thing I didn\'t buy it, b/c I the clerk at Gamestop told me it sucked bad. Im going to just buy the original version and play it again.

Unfortunatley I am deadly serious. It gets a bit extreme in a few spots in the game. Still not as bad as when the camera gets super close, but the enemies are cloer. Heck they are so close that they are off screen.

THOSE STUPID F#CKING IDIOTS HAVE TAKEN AWAY WHAT SO OBVIOUSLY MADE THE FIRST ONE SO GREAT AND UNIQUE?!?!?!?!?!?!
DAMN THEM!!!!
-
Yes, it\'s true. You can now stand in one spot and just shoot away. The game is auto-targeted, so once you finish the one enemy off, it goes to the next. Just hit the same button, over and over.
As for boss\'es, well the trick is to jump, run, shoot, jump, run shoot. I haven\'t seen a boss that the plan didn\'t work on.

:crying:
As a friend of mine say they just killed the "God"
-
the more i read the more lamer it sounds...not good
-
am i the only person who liked the game i think its okay not great they cant be all blockbusters its final fight type game its fun i am on mission 15 right now but i agree its to easy
-
excactly, its good not great, this game has been hyped up somuch, and by the sounds of things the bits that made the first one so good, have changed, and now suck...... grrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
I agree with all of you...it was just way too damn easy to beat. The first one was definitely a challenge, and quite a joy to play. DMC2 had a few cool new concepts, that I became bored with quickly. It is so incredibly lame. I haven\'t used any orbs yet...and I am about to get the DMD (Dante Must Die) mode....hopefully it will be a challenge this time around considering I beat the first disc in about 4 hours. Maybe they thought we were supposed to suck at this game? My friend thinks it\'s hard and he can\'t get past the first time you meet Arius with the two wolves...but he\'s a moron...so I can\'t help him.
The bosses were insanely cool in DMC...as well as their intros. And one of the stupid-a** bosses in DMC2 looks an awful lot like Heihachi...you know what I mean?...and with some horrible voice-acting. And Lucia is definitely something NOT special...just a waste of time to unlock more modes so I can continue playing with Dante. The creation of this game is utter disaster and just an evil skeem to empty our pockets on the DMC franchise...they ruined this game...:( Hopefully...there\'ll be a third installment...and only if it\'s made by the same team will I buy it...otherwise...I may have to hurt something...
-
I just bought this game on Sunday. I played it once for 5 mins and cause I just finished moving into my new house and doing house stuff.
I was bored after 3 mins. Good thing I only spent $10 on this crappy game!
