As everyone knows I love Capcom and I\'ll buy anything Capcom, so as usual, I avoided my good instinct and common sense and I went ahead and bought Devil May Cry 2, despite the bad reviews, despite my intial impressions after playing it...
With that said, I\'m to lazy to write a review so I\'ll just make a list of the pro\'s and con\'s.
CONS
- The chick who says "Devil May Cry" in the original is gone. :(
- The new female Lucia looks to much like the girl from BloodRayne.
- Dante\'s new voice actor isn\'t quite as good. Thus maybe the reason he barely talks in this one.
- There is almost no story and what is there is just plain stupid.
- The new Devil Trigger mode sucks my nuts. I understand they wanted to make it more complex and improve on the formula, but it just did not work.
- Speaking of Devil Trigger, Dante\'s new Devil Form doesn\'t even look as good as his original one. Why oh god WHY, did Capcom change something as simple as a character model?
- What do you get when you mix Shinobi and BloodRayne? You get a two disc sequel to the great Devil May Cry. All of Dante\'s disk screams "Shinobi". Tanks? Check! Helicopters? Check! Walking on walls? Check! Red force field over open spaces? Check! Dull enviorments? Check! Devil dogs? Check! I swear this could be Shinobi\'s long lost sequel.
Lucia\'s disk reminded me of BloodRayne. Her character looks a lot like the one from BloodRayne, the weapons, the movement and even the feel of the character. Errr!!!!
- This may be the most boring game in recent memory and that is real sad, when you consider how great the original DMC was. The enviorments are dull, there is almost no story to keep you interested. The gameplay has been downgraded. Stylishg combo\'s are no longer needed. Just shoot away.
- Speaking of, why was the sword downplayed? It is easier and pays off more to just stand in a corner and shoot.
- The enemies are just dumb. I literally stood in the middle of the enviorment and just shot at a couple of the enemies and they never moved. I just killed them. No movement. What kind of AI is that?
- Bingo? What kind of combo name is that? What happened to the cool ones from the original?
- The new enemies lack character, \'cept for the \'BloodGoat\'. It is the only one that could pass for an original DMC enemy. The new ones are (1) birds or (2) brown textured zombies. No thrill what so ever.
- The new weapons bite. What happened to Ifrit? ANd what is this new leveling up system? I leveled up but could tell NO difference in level 2 sword and level 1 swords, well, \'cept the amounts of orbs they costed me.
- The new enviroments are too large and due to this the camera is drawn back to a mindless degree. There is something wrong when your main character is the size of an ant. And yet, with this camera drawn back there is still a lot of times when you are fighting enemies off screen for some reason. Just stand and shoot. That\'s my advice.
- MUSICCC! MY EARSSSS! The new soundtrack is just terrible. :(
- The "new" Dante lacks the same character. He is no longer the smart-ass, bad ass. He is just..quiet and boring.
- It costed me $50 bucks. :(

I think the biggest mistake in the gameplay is the fact they made the guns more powerfull.
In the original DMC the guns and the sword were weak.But the guns were a lot weaaker than the sword and fists so the game forced u to use the close combat weapons more and at the same time it made you want to master those weapons as it was the only way to learn how to beat your enemies effectively.
But this time....What?You find it difficult to kill them with the sword?Use the guns.They shoot everywhere and delay the enemies buy shooting them down.
For example in the first one the puppets had a very small delay when shot.The best way to use your guns effectively and delay the enemies was to uppercut the monsters and start shooting.That was a cool way to balance the use of guns and sword.
This time they get shot once and are thrown a mile away from u.And then u just keep shooting them as u cant use your close combat weapons.
SHAME!!!
I also liked DMC1\'s devil trigger 10000 times more.Dante\'s tranformation from human to devil and from devil to human according to his attacks added character.And character to the weapons.Each demon he was tranforming to represented the demon possesing the weapon.It was like Dante and the demon within the sword were fighting together.
But what with DMC2?Its just dante tranforming into a demon.

I agree with you LIC on most everthing except this game being a sequel to Shinobi. Shinobi is alot cooler, and alot more difficult.

It\'s such a shame that this game has turned out like this. They could have made it into a great game. :(

Well the voice acting for DMC 1 was nothing to cheer about either. Sounded like the script of a USA up all night movie.

even the most dedicated were disapointed with this Capcom let down... don\'t wory Capcom will give us better games in the future.

i must be the only person who doesnt hate it ts not a great game its just a good one it wont sell4 million copies but i am enjoying it alot on mission 15 now

If it takes 15 Missions for a game to get your interest, there is a problem.

what are we talking about the first or second one ?
DMC1 was boring and short until the real action kicked in arounf the halfway mark.

They are discussing the 2nd one... glad I dodged that bullet... unfortunately I was hit by the DOAX Volleyball one and I think that hurt more than the DMC2 would have.

i still cannot fully belive how much this games sucks, i loved the first once, and cannot believe what they have done to this..... ill still rent it, or buy and take it back. even if i know its gonna suck

You\'re all on crack. Here I am, the biggest Capcom whore possible, telling you that there is no redeeming factor. Trying to save you.
You can refuse to use the guns - but it doesn\'t help. I tried it. The game is still as boring as it could possibly be.

I dont see what everyone is crying about. I love this game. Yes they made it alot easier then the first one but if you think about it dante is stronger than he was in the first one. I love how in this one you jump in the air and shoot down at you enemy. If your a developer would you want to make the same game or make it a little different so that more people could enjoy the game. Regardless of what you guys think its selling well. For those who are thinking about buying it "go for it".
