February 04, 2003 - On January 24 IGNcube reported that Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios had been given the green light by Nintendo to start work on a GameCube sequel. The news came by way of inside sources, but neither Nintendo of America nor Retro Studios would offer official comments on the subject.
Today, though, comes the first official confirmation that a sequel, tentatively dubbed "Metroid Prime 2," is underway. A link on Nintendo\'s website announces the game and also reads: "A follow-up to the hit Metroid Prime is in development. No release date or other information is available at this time."
Metroid Prime, a first-person adventure starring space bounty hunter Samus Aran, sold upward of 700,000 units in little more than a month on the market. The game also earned high praise from critics across the board, even garnering "Game of the Year" awards from numerous magazines and online sites.
We\'ll have more on the sequel as information becomes available.
I don\'t know how they will make the story line because although the end of metroid prime wasnt as complete as it could have, I didn\'t see anything that would leave room for a sequal. AM I thinking wrong? The sequal is a sequal to metroid prime right? Or is it just another game in the series?

lol poor ooseven, still hasnt got one of the best games released on the 2nd gen consoles.

How about we make an actual decent 2D Metriod follow up? Not another craptacular 3D FPS game..

I thought they actually did a good job of converting it to 3D. However, I really do miss all the 2D games we used to have. I don\'t think the new consoles should have killed it the way they did. I would love to see one of the Nintendo franchises be made into a real high quality 2D game.

ditto, I thought the transition to 3D was smooth. Couldn\'t have gotten much better.

Metroid Prime is the best game on GameCube. If th\' sequel is even comparable, it\'ll be a GOTY candidate.
As for 2D: *hugs his GBA and copy of Metroid Fusion*
