Title: Need some suggestions...
Post by: GigaShadow on February 07, 2003, 06:56:19 AM
Ok I know some of you hate Jetta\'s... but I have a 2001 Jetta GLX VR6 and it has gone out of warranty - so I am thinking of some mods - like a new exhaust.  I don\'t really want to get heavily into any mods, but just a few suggestions would help from all the car people here.  I ordered some Audi TT pedals already - though its only cosmetic and can barely be seen they do look nice.

Please no ghetto stuff... just subliminal mods that one can not or can barely see.  Also, please keep it in topic, try and keep the joking to a minimum. ;)

Intake and Exhaust are usually the most common mods, as far as I know. Some cosmetic work could look good if done tastefully (Not saying you would rice out your car :)) Those indiglo gauges look pretty sweet.

Yeah they do, a lot of people who ride in the car comment on them... I am wondering about the Magnaflow catback exhaust...  a lot of VW\'s seem to have them.

I thought you were talking about the blue gauges... forgive my car lingo is woefully inadequate...

Well I just went down the street to the performance shop and they have a neuspeed catback for $750 and can chip my car to bump the hp up from 174 to appx a little over 200hp.

yeah, if your going to do exhaust definately go full catback.  If you want to do a few more things, get intake and headers. those are most common and easy to do yourself if you were so inclined.  you could also go for a strut bar.  another easy install.  One more thing that you might want to look at getting is an intake bypass.  That way you dont get any water in the exhaust when it all rainy outside :)

I don\'t have a Jetta ,so I can\'t help much, but I have done a few mods to my car with more to come.

Last spring I had gears installed and I put a chip in to boost the timing on the car. I think the timing gave the seat of the pants kick I was looking for, plus the gears helped out a lot as well. Pulleys are going on this spring.

I wish I could go outside and do some work on my car now.

if you want some more omph..just do the basic I/H/E..Intake, headers, exhaust.

likes someone else said..dont be halfassed with the exhaust, get a full cat-back system. A chip does good things for an instant SOTP boost.

Indiglos area nice comestic enhancement..or a tasteful front lip.

Bigger sway bars make for fun during spirited driving in the twisties.

Thats it luckee???  I thought you would be listing parts and prices and even links to websites where I could order the stuff.  I know nothing about mods so you have be pretty specific with me as I don\'t know what is good for the price. :D

Thanks for the link, I think I will stick to the intake and exhaust - I really don\'t want to mess with the suspension.  - ;)

suspension is a piece of cake and generally one of the best upgrades any car can see. :)

Its a matter of money... ;) I figure its going to be close to $1k for the intake and exhaust... don\'t have much left after that.

Well, after your intake/exhaust, you could go for some coilovers and some rims. :D
