I swear – there are lots of types of games that can take a lot of time to play, but I don’t think any other genre ultimately ends up costing me so much overall game-playing time in the end. I think I must spend about 120 to 200 hours on each RPG I play. Is that average? How much time do you think you spend on RPGs on the average, and what’s the longest game you ever played?

FF7 - Beat it 6 times at about 60 hrs a piece
FF8 - Beat it 3 times at 45 hrs a piece
FF9 - Beat it 2 times at 45 hrs a piece
FF10 - Beat it 2 times at 65 hrs a piece
LSSSC - Beat it 1 time at 35 hrs
Kingdom Hearts - Beat it 1 time at 45 hrs
Vagrant Story - ....played it for 18 hrs :)
Xenogears - ....played it for 25 hrs ;)
Chrono Cross - beat it 1 time at 50 hrs
Chrono Trigger - beat it 1 time at 25hrs ???
i got more...but i cant think of any

About 3 and a half hours... :D
Big RPG fan... oh yeah. :thepimp:
-
Generally, I play an RPG about 80 hours... I always try and max out everything possible.
If it takes more than 100 hours, I usually end up getting bored and switching for a while, which means I end up restarting later.... I would estimate, just from the biggest RPGs I\'ve played, probably about 1500 hours.
If I added computer games, even JUST diablo II (which I used to play for profit), then probably around 2500 hours.
Damn... what a waste of time... (off to play Diablo II - for fun now)
:p
-
only about 700 hours (ffs, bofs, random square rpgs etc) or 2 weeks...err that is alot
-
Usually about 40 hours for me, I don\'t try to get every useless xyz item that does nothing except for the sake of "being there".
Really, it sucks too much of my time. I\'m playing Legaia 2 currently and this game is nuts. The battles are near impossible even if you\'ve very high levels, tons of random battles every few step and even the normal battles can kill off your party!! It\'s that crazy!
I don\'t think I can take it anymore so I use my Action Replay to correct the programmers fault :) Now, it\'s much more enjoyable!
I think I need to quit RPG...
-
I\'d say, probably a good 300 hours...mostly on the Final Fantasy series. I just like a game with a good plot...a lot of games don\'t seem to offer that nowadays...
-
about 1 minute. I rented one of the final fantasies for ps1 and realized thats not my kind of gaming and it got pretty dusty through the week.
-
more than 500 hours... and started with ultima IV..
just hoping to find good RPG and not just adventure games with stats.. (ie. final fantasy)
really liked final fantasies (6.7.8) and (5.9.10) were quite ok.
each took couple times 50+ hours..
-
A couple of hours maybe, I find the genre pretty boring...
-
Only RPG that I ever really finished was FF7. It took me forever! I\'d say 150+ hours.
-
oh god...
FF I-X, some of them more tthan once. Then there\'s Super Mario RPG which I played to death about 80 times... ahh chrono trigger and chrono cross... what great games.
-
I don\'t keep track of how many total hours I have played RPG. But if I guess, let say, ffvii-at least 7 times already I guess, I think I played about 250 hours of ffvii, gosh...too much too remember. too many rpgs I have play, ffvii, ffviii, tactics, xenogears, chrono cross, legend of dragoon...I really dont know but sure is a lot of times.
-
I use to play RPG only once, but that time I like to do it pretty well. For example, I have now more than 140 hours in FFX and still unfinished.
The exception is FFVII, that I\'ve finished 3 times.

Over 500hrs on Phantasy Star Online Ver 1 & 2
Over 150hrs on Morrowind

Good list, SM... although I\'m surprised Xenogears occupied the shortest amount of your time ~ I spent more time on that than any other RPG! Of course, it also happens to be my all time favorite, so maybe that has something to do with it... Are you gonna play Xenosaga when it\'s out? (this month, too... YES!)
-
too much time :
- Seven saga , chrono trigger , chrono cross , legend of mana , legend legaia , ff2 , ff3 ,ff4 ,ff5 ,ff6,ff7 , ff8 ,ff9 ,ffx , suikoden 3 , etc etc etc
-
I bet i\'ve spent around 20 hours (FF7) and thats it. it\'s not that i disike the genre, but it just doesn\'t do much for me
i must admit some of my all time favourites have been stuff like
GT3
Ico (Best PS2 game to date) - (For emotion evoking qualities and emotional movement/manipulation & art style)
Most Rally Games
Tomb Raider 1
GTA3 (i must admit, VC was a little bit weaker imho)
Ratchet & Clank
Resident Evil
Soul Caliber / Edge
and some other arcade/immediate games that dont take much getting into.
I\'m now getting to the age where immersion is dwindling for me (27) and i\'m finding myself less and less
impressed with games of recent. Ico stands out to be probably the best game ive played to date, but other
than that, most have failed to drag me in. i\'m wondering if any of you people are begining to feel simlar feelings.
I\'m currently going through a little bit of depression, well.. i have done for a few months now, but i feel that i no longer
want to play games at all.. sure, there are some good games about, but i feel guilty of spending time sat at a tv
screen, knocking through some game just so i can say i completed it. it just doesnt feel as if ive accomplished
anything.. who cares if i finished GT3 or Ico.. nobody!.. is that a bad thing?... Ultimatly i kind of wished i got off my ass
and did something usefull like decorate the house/sort the garden...etc...
Gaming just seems to take my time up so much, even tho\' i\'m not playing anymore.. heck, i keep checking
forums/websites etc all to do with gaming, so it must be something within me to keep interested.
I dunno.. i\'m just hoping that this is just down to my current depression and it\'s not going to last.

StAnZo, I guess I\'m a bit shocked... with all the new boats, motorcycles, the fully-flyable planes and helicopters, the new weapons, the larger map, the larger number of enterable buildings, the far superior all-star voice-acting, the larger number of missions, the ability to buy property and earn money off of your own businesses and the superior graphics.... I guess I\'m having trouble following your claim that Vice City was \'weaker\' than GTA3.

not at all m8, there are some brilliant additions to VC, but i think that Liberty City was \'Bigger\'. The taller buildings,
urban setting and that \'first time\' play made it unforgettable. i cant lie, i liked VC but i think Liberty City was
more of a natural habitat for the goings on. True, the graphics were better in the \'draw distance\' area
but i found that there was less geometry and architecture in VC. like i said before, i also think that the 2x bigger
size of VC was an over exageration. i thought GTA3 was bigger, maybee it\'s just me, i dunno.
It\'s all down to personal opinion, both are class games, but i thought GTA3 retained that urban feel
VC was like GTA3 on holiday.

I gotcha. I must admit, it\'s hard to out-do that initial pleasant shock of how great a game GTA3 turned out to be.. but I gotta tell ya, as soon as the opening credits and theme song for Vice City started the first time I popped that DVD in the PS2 ~ I knew I was going to be in my own personal gaming heaven for awhile. You\'re right - it all boils down to personal preference. In some ways, I\'m definitely a sucker for the "new thing". In others, I\'m a stickly for the way it "used to be". In this case, I own and love both games... and I can\'t wait for GTA 5 (assuming they keep going with it).
-
Frankly, I hated GTA3 but I actually enjoyed GTA:VC. The problem with GTA3 is the graphics engine is just not up to mark with frequent frame drops that bogs the gameplay.
GTA:VC, although doesn\'t improve substantially in graphics quality, managed to keep the frame rates at a constant 30fps for most of the game which makes the whole thing a pleasant experience. And the music in GTA:VC just beats anything.
-
probably around 200-300 hours
-
Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy VII-X, SKies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross...
I\'m guessing around 350-400 hours. I usually just beat a game and don\'t worry about finding everything.
-
NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER FINISHED AN RPG!!
I started and got pretty far in FFX but I had to give it back to my buddy.
-
Skies of Arcadia is nearing 40, and I\'m just finishing the Ruins of Ice!
