Title: Dolly the cloned sheep dies
Post by: Kurt Angle on February 14, 2003, 11:29:31 AM
Dolly the cloned sheep had to be euthanised today at only six years old due to lung disease. The normal lifespan for sheep is 11 to 12 years. Looks like there is a long way to go before we will be able to successfully clone humans without side effects.

Well, I dont really know how the whole process works, but, Think about medievil times.  It was average to live to about the age of 35 - 40. Could be some kind of a connection there.

She\'s got "old" cells.

One day, the rich will have their children born and a clone will be made of them so later on, when their childred are older - they\'ve got a waiting organ donor. Of course....that clone will have no brain. Just a growing body.

That was one scenerio I read. Kinda weird.

What about that psycho clan with the cloned baby? Did they ever show any proof?

Hmmm...the living person gets into a bad accident, can\'t move from the neck down and then decides to get his brain transplanted into the donor body. When he wakes up after the successful operation.....

1) he has no soul and he goes about killing people trying to steal souls.

2) His new "donor body" has virtually no muscle strength....and he\'s bed ridden for years....in pain. Oh the irony!

:)

Who the **** cares?

I think cloning is a stupid idea. What good will it do us?
Think about it, what good?

Uh, well, it would provide a cure for hundreds of diseases...

By harvesting cloned body parts from cloned humans?

I hope thats not what your thinking.

Yes indeedy.

But seriously, it doesn\'t have to be body parts. It could be blood and whatnot.

But most people do have a few spare organs...

Personally, I think its morally wrong cloning anything for "medical research" when actually their just going to gut the thing, rip out its intestines and shove it in some cancer patient. Lol, Maybe i\'m exageratting. But using another LIVING, BREATHING, THINKING, PAIN FEELING, LOVING human being, cloned or not for intestines is just morally, oh so morally wrong. What if you were to happen to be one of those clones? You have no family, nothing, and are killed as soon as you grow up, or at birth.

BTW: If you think you can clone blood, no offense, but I believe your wrong. You would need a human body to do this, and the human body itself makes plenty of blood to spare. Its just alot of people aren\'t organ donners, and blood donners (sp?).

I for one will definetley be one, all of my body will be going forth to help another individual when I pass.

You don\'t seem to understand what I am talking about, let me clarify.

I too believe that cloning someone for the sole purpose harvesting their organs and then disposing of them is wrong. Though I doubt that is what would happen anyway, if they did do that I am sure the would make sure it was no more than a spare body.

What I meant was that if you had a clone, you would both be completely compatible in all medical aspects. You would both be able to give each other organs and blood transfusions without worry of incompatibility and whatnot. It would be like having an identical twin. No death involved.

BTW, I didn\'t mean cloning blood all by itself. Although I do believe that it\'s possible, through stem cells. Correct?

Forgot about stem cells...

I see what you mean.

I\'m sure there will be laws against that sort of thing when the time comes.

I wish not all clons in the future survive for only 4 years :)

How is cloning bad? I don\'t agree with cloning humans for things like organs. I don\'t agree they should clone a human without fully studying it. Cloning animals are fine. They are cloning all sorts of organisms now pretty successfully.

Hey, cloning for organs is fine with me. But I dont want them to grow a full me and then take the organs from that clone. The clone is still a person. I\'d let them clone my little cells so they can make stem cell rich embryos or how ever they\'d do it - and then they\'d make my spare parts from those stem cells.

I was actually talking about cloning a person, letting them live and harvest their organs. That would be wrong. I hope it doens\'t come down to that. But like Avatar said, cloning just the organs with stem cells is alright with me.
