Without even making oil an issue here and just looking at this from the sidelines lets make sense why the US is going after Iraq. They are an easy target in the so called war on terrorisim.
With a despot leader in Saddam and his track record of death and destruction it is forgone conclusion that he is our main focus from the beginning. As soon as 911 occured his name came up. We have no problem painting him as a Raving madman. But the real issue is our involvence in the region to police terrorist activities.
The problem is that he is not the only one who is financing terrorisim. Saudi Arabia has provided more money in the pockets of terroists than Saddam ever could. They are supposed to be our friends. Why do we not go after them? Thats were Bin Laden got all his money.
In fact there are many countries that support terrorisim like Syria and Iran. However we have earmarked Iraq as the center of it all. A friendly goverment in Iraq would provide us with all the intellegence we would need to monitor terrorist groups in the region.
With a war already fought with Saddam over Kuwait(which used to be a part of Iraq but now our lap dogs) we no longer fear moving against him despite world opinion. We are using his Image to squeeze our influence back into the region.
Only with his total defeat along with his country and the blessing of the UN of course we could set up shop there and recruit locals to infiltrate these groups. Afganistan is a wasteland and too far away from the terrorist hot spot. Iraq is perfect.
Once he is gone(hopefully with no protests from Russia) we could infuse our presence fully there and well...help...Monitor the oil reserves along the way. Thats why we just dont whack him out and forget it.
(This analysis is not endorced by the US goverment)

Well, we don\'t want the whole middle east to declare war on us. What we have to do is to take out these pro terrorist organizations little by little.

What I was trying to say is that we should eliminate terrorist organizations slowly and not in one swift motion because it would cause problems like the middle east decalring war. I know most of the mid east countries hate saddam.

The major irony is that we have supported a number of tyrants before us turning on them or them turnig on us. The Shah of Iran, Marcos, Noriega, Saddam, Ho Chi Min and many others.
When will we learn.:crap:
