I always thought that avid video game players want to live on making games, at some point in their lives. I also know that some avid gamers don\'t really know much about developing software. That is a very big barrier for someone with game making ambitions, and you\'d think their reaction would be more vocal if you wrote an article that says: LOOK, NOT BEING ABLE TO PROGRAM IS NO BARRIER TO MAKING GAMES AT ALL!!!. So now I\'m beginning to wonder, where are all the gamers who want to make games?!
I posted a little post (http://www.psx2central.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=28422) telling you all about an article (http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~lagunad/_game_making/n00b/n00b.htm) that I wrote. :( And I didn\'t get much of a reaction. Not even that many page views! :( So, now I want to know who actually wants to make games and are eager to start making games and who are the pretenders?

I want to PLAY games, not make them. Making them takes work... :)

i am going to study animation at the end of the year, which could lead to video game graphics if i ever wanted to do that.
i basically would love to do special effects in movies or direct music video\'s.
games are pretty hard to get into these days, and its pretty hard also (programing). i find the graphics side easier to deal with yet you can still have input into how the game turns out.

Im learning to program... but not to the level of video games, haven\'t touched graphics yet.

Hmmm, funny this thread is. I posted a thread about creating a game based on paintball a while back and many of those here mocked me and said that not only was the idea lame and done in Soccom Navy Seals as a min game but that I would have next to no luck at all getting anybody to look at the idea unless I had some programming done to illustrate the game. I would like to create games but I am not willing to spend any more time doing so, as lately I have not played games nearly as much as I had back in my younger days.

Whell, THIS ARTICLE (http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~lagunad/_game_making/n00b/n00b.htm) IS FOR YOU!!!!@#$%^ Really, the difficulty in making games is largely just a load of hype. You hear the stories of struggle but those are from the pioneering days. Today there are lots and lots of tools that make things easier and help you speed things up.
At least read it damnit!

I\'m actually a Computer Science major. I\'d like to get into game programming; but I don\'t know if I will.

Right now I am learning animation. Only on a 2d level as of now but sometime soon I will be getting into the 3d animation. Ive done some 3d modeling, but not much. Im strating a flash cartoon series called "Youth in Asia" Its pretty much a way for me to practice. Its either games or cartooning for me man.

Me and my college buddies are serious thinking about starting our own video game company. The thing is making a video game takes about 2 years or more. And it can be very expensive at that.
Plus you need to have all the right people. I am a programmer who also does 3d graphics. one of my buddy does accounting and the other does graphic art and 3d graphics and rendering.

It could be fun if you make GOOD video games. I dont to work hard and end up with a virtual pile of poo...
I wouldnt want to do anything except character models though. Just because that seems like the most important/easiest/better than coding thing to do....
I\'d prefer to be a Journalist though. Writing just comes easy to me.

…as demonstrated in your posts here in the forums right?:p

Actually, I think being a game journalist is great. You get free stuff from the publishers and developers. You get to see things before anyone else. Nerd girls love you, even though there are very very very very few of them. You get to get play the games for free. And if you don\'t like a game, you can make sure the people who were responsible for it gets punished!!!!!
Still, it pays the same as a regular job at best. Usually you get payed less. If you\'re a game developer though.. even if you\'re just a decent one... you get lots n lots of money. Nerd girls love you ... but since you have money now, normal girls do as well. :)

And you said you were how old?

I\'d love to make video games. I believe I have some fairly good ideas and concepts, but putting them into code... well, think crap... yeah, in code form.

Good at writing or not. I enjoy it sometimes. If I have something to write about, and I can relate to it, I can go far. Either that or my teachers are on drugs ;)
But really, If you look at my latest test scores from the nation wide.
Im in the 98% percentile. Its really an amazing thing actually, Considering all students take this test.
Im taking a test now for all that stuff, Ill post results as soon as they come (a long time :laughing )

I always score really high on those too. I think they\'re all on crack though. Apparently I exceed in writing, but you know, what with the procrastination, slacking, laziness, etc., I get da bad grades, yo.
I used to like writing a lot, school really ruined that...:(
Whoah, deep... :p

You know, one thing thats been starting to annoy me is the fact that people just look at lazyness as an acceptable excuse. "I\'m too lazy to make it better, that\'s why my work is crap". Sometimes people just say that because they don\'t want to admit to others that they really are crap. But the thing is, others who want to help you WILL NOT HELP YOU IF YOU USE THE LAZY EXCUSE. So don\'t be lazy, or people might get lazy about giving you a hand.
