Title: Irish people & "pikeys"
Post by: THX on March 04, 2003, 02:02:47 AM
Just curious for you people in the UK, how much of Ireland is "visitable" and how much is crap?  Is the northern part better to live in than the south, or vice-versa?

When I imagine Ireland I think of Brad Pitt in Snatch.  I know that\'s just a huge stereotype but it has to stem from somewhere. :p  That and I got ripped off bigtime by a dirty lying Irish person!!111

Pikeys are the slang name given to gypsies  usualy of Irish decent…. Most of them still travel but some have chosen to settle down and buy houses but still maintain the gypsy way of life.

Pikeys is the derogatory term given to that special band of gypsy who are for ever scheming and what not.

And no Ireland both Republic and Northern is Safe and very nice to visit….

The troubles have calmed down to organised crime levels with terrorist organisations now muscling in of the Organised gangs turf (illegal drink…drugs.. piracy etc…)

THX: For future reference, real people in Ireland sound nothing like the characters in Snatch.  When watching that movie, it didn\'t even occur to me that those people were supposed to have any connection to the Irish.  That\'s how different their accent was.  Remember that film was produced by Brits.  Don\'t base any Irish stereotypes on a film made by the English.

Ireland is a fantastic place to visit.

Cored this thread was a clever way for me to find out if popular opinion of the Irish was good or bad.  I didn\'t want to come out and say it in fear of offending some people.  Just wanted to see if it\'s ok to trust the Irish when dealing with em on ebay. :)

So far I got ripped off by one but I\'d like to hear that most Irish aren\'t gypsy hustlers & "teeves."  So far the only Irishman I like is Conan O\'Brien.
