I figure, if he has committed to his own death-and is hoping for rewards in the afterlife, then...
HE BLEW IT!
;)

Kamakazi pilots weren\'t suicide bombers. THey just used their planes as weapons since they wouldn\'t have made it back to land anyway.
-
yes, they weren\'t assigned to die before they left the ground
-
If he survived by pulling away too soon to save his own life and missing his target, then he\'s a failure. If he hits his target and survives, he\'s a survivor
-
Their job is to die so I\'d say unless they eject and destroy their target, its a failure.
-
I\'d classify it as a failure. They were suppose to die right?
But also, they completed most of their mission, and can be used again...
Damn, :( I want to change my vote

I swear nobody reads mm\'s posts

Kamikazi pilots who didn\'t die with their plane kill themselves with harikir anyway (unless they\'re cought in time) .. so they die just the same.
-
harikir? explain...
-
Apparently they really did know they were going to die. I found this article which has some cool photos in it.

Losing one soldier for killing thousands seems like a small sacrafice.
I dont see why this idea would be rejected... Althought cowardly, clever.
-
harikiri is ceremonail suicide. old samurai used to do it when they were dishonoured; like if they got drunk and raped someone.
-
If they raped someone?
-
He is a survivor because he survived.

I read in a book called "Tech war" that the Japanese designed special planes for kamikaze pilots, one of them was called Ohka (Japanese codename), Baka (American codename .. Means madman) that was attached to a twin-engine "mother plane" ..
When they approached the target they would detach from the mother plane and glide towards the target..
As they approached it the pilot in the Ohka would light the jet engine and the little plane would accelerate to about 1100km/h .. Smashing right into the target.
The Ohka was basically a big flying bomb weighting 1200 kg, but it had a human in it.
The Ohka was a very successful "bomb" ..

As for the question.. I guess they were failures.

actually, karakiri was for shamed government officials and the like, and involved a grand ceramony with spectators.
the samurai\'s of old performed what is called, sepaku.
they did it if thier master (or lord) died, or if they failed in battle (and somehow lived)
-
oh sepaku , i\'ve heard of that.
-
coward, survivor, failure...blah blah blah
There\'s only two words to describe what he is: LUCKY BASTARD That man needs to go buy a lottery ticket
