People without GameCubes that live in England probably.
-
I also thought someone in England might be interested.
-
they are only 150 here now
-
This story is true, we are not going to be stocking them any more. All games have been reduced from £39.99 to £24.99 to clear out. The console is also down to £99 with a free game. It is pretty sad but I honestly cannot remember the last time our shop sold a GC.
-
Whats wrong with it?
Bad sales?
I knew nintendo will eventually bomb out. If they were to release a quality Zelda game beforehand, it may have saved it.
-
Man, if you can\'t make fun of England anymore, what can you make fun of?
Oh yeah, gay people.
*ducks*

The sad thing also is the huge delays on games for us in europe. Metroid prime still has not been released over here.

I dunno, people from New Jersey perhaps?;)

Canadians...
Oh wait...
Its been like that forever...
-
quality Zelda
What is wrong with the current Zelda comin\' out? And it is narrow-minded to believe that one game can save a system.
-
This is really a shame. Nintendo used to be invincible.
This is just further reason to expect Nintendo to push for 2005 for its next system. Even if 2006 would seem more likely.

i think this zelda is gonna rock, but we\'ll have to wait and see.
-
I\'m a little depressed.... Because this means that GC is on it\'s way down the Dreamcast road. The one good thing is that in a year I\'ll be able to pick upa GC for 50 bucks :D
-
I don\'t think that GameCube is the next Dreamcast (unless you\'re talking about game quality ;)) but I am disappointed that such a powerful company continues to ignore key parts of the market. Europeans have been neglected. Online play.. neglected. There are now rumors that Mario Kart isn\'t online; if true, Nintendo just officially pissed me off (read: diehard Nintendo fan here) and that\'s not good considering how I\'ve liked their decisions to date.
Nintendo has to spend some money! Forget about constant profit, Big N.. you have to lose money to stay in the game! Sow the seeds of success by buying exclusive rights to game franchises.. by besting Xbox Live!
If it\'s not too late, you may reap the rewards. People will flock to the \'Cube.
-
"Forget about constant profit." You likely won\'t be accepting any business offers from the big N any time soon...

LOL!!! even funnier is the intelligence of the average american.;)

Halo has worked wonders for the XBox.
:)

The big problem with the big N is that they wanted to be cheap and not make it dvd compatible and no real online plans. Yes they are making money because their not spending any money.
It also seems their doing well to some people because their games are selling and that is because only your hardcore fans are buying these games and not your causual gamer.
Just look at sony. They make so many games. Some for your casual gamers and some for their hardcore fans. It always something new and not the same old thing over and over again.
Same with microsoft. Even though their losing money their willing to try new things. In the end the big N will have to change their ways if they want to continue in this business.
-
Well it seems other retailers in the UK are following suit. Argos, the UK\'s biggest catalogue shopping store is also discontinuing the console. They have reduced the console to £78.99 to clear. Nintendo is due to release a Metroid Prime pack this friday for £129.99, but at the discounted price it is cheaper to buy the console and game seperately.

You mention that it\'s a business, but clearly don\'t know what that means.
If Microsoft is losing money, they\'re the ones who need to adjust the strategy. Nintendo has been turning over consistent profit for years and years.
For a company in a business, those dollar signs are what it\'s about. Nintendo\'s strategy brings in the bucks, so for the business, they\'re doing just fine.
Could they do better? Ahh, now that\'s where the strategizing comes in. And if you follow Nintendo\'s business decisions in the last couple years, you know they\'re trying to do just that, and with recent announcements, they will continue to do so in the next hardware generation.

You\'re right, Eik.
I let my frustration with Nintendo\'s public perception (among other things) cloud my judgment.. but I must say that I\'m also right. Nintendo might be pulling in constant profit (a good thing) but it\'s not likely long-term.
If Nintendo keeps on the pace that\'s putting them in 3rd place today (in US/Europe) ... their user-base will eventually get wittled down to just hardcore Nintendo fans. (and believe me, lots of people bought the system with very little knowledge of Nintendo\'s game lineup) While I don\'t think that they should blow a load of money.. they need to stay competitive.
Christmas: Xbox comes with 2 free games, GameCube comes with nothing; Xbox murders GCN sales-wise.
February: GCN gets its own free game deal; sales nearly equal Xbox\'s during this month.
No pain, no gain. Nintendo needs to loosen up.
-
Yea it definitely ain\'t perfect. The potential is there to do so much better. Move more systems, more software, and make more money. Nintendo is still plugging away at it, but I think they\'ve resigned to waiting for a more competitive launch for the next go around.
I think that\'s a fine idea, but they\'re marketing department still needs a fire lit under them. We\'ll see.

Well it obvious you dont know business. In order for a new company to make it they have to lose money. What kind of business do you do win the lotto. Thats the only way to make money without losing it.

It sounds like GameCube received a major boost from price cuts. I don\'t have a link, but some site just posted that GCN = no.2 home console in Europe again. If so, it\'s sad that they had to cut the price to gain the lead.. but.. it may restore some of Nintendo\'s image, and bring more people off the fence to experience the GCN and newly released games like Metroid Prime.
