Reports from Belgrade say that the Serbian Prime Minister, Zoran Djindjic, has been wounded in an assassination attempt.

Mr Djindjic was shot in front of the Serbian parliament building in Belgrade at around 1300 (1200 gmt) on Wednesday, sources in his office said.

He has been taken to hospital where he is reportedly undergoing an operation.

Mr Djindjic, a former mayor of the Serbian capital, was a prominent opposition leader under the rule of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

they are now saying he\'s fighting for his life...

yup... i mean from the little i have read he sweapt to power in the elections after the people rised up against Slobodan Milosevic.

Im not sure..
I\'ve heard on the news that they have arrested several people.

I bet there are alot of people involved in this. They said a ex police commissioner is one of the people behind this. Also the mafia might be involved.

He was shot twice, once in the stomach and once in the back. The shooter used a sniper rifle.
