Fourth Dynasty Breaks 1 Million

Koei\'s latest PlayStation 2 action game Shin-Sangokumusou 3 (Dynasty Warriors 4) has sold more than 1 million copies in Japan after only nine days of availability. According to company representatives, it took more than six months for the last chapter in the series to break the 1 million mark. Koei cites continued improvements in the franchise and a growing fanbase as contributing factors to the success of its latest game. Dynasty Warriors 4 is set to hit retailers in America on March 25 and later this spring in Europe.

Cash cow, indeed.

The only Dynasty Warrior I liked was Sango Fighter(the first game released almost a decade ago on PC) and the original fighting game released on PSX.

Yeah...me too...I like the one on one fighting game on the PSX...it\'s the previous best thing before Soul Calibur on the DC.

The DW churns out so many sequels that looks/play so similar i really don\'t see why anyone lining up to buy it again and again...maybe there\'s some hypnotic mesages implemented in each game that program the people\'s subconcious mind to buy the next sequel when it\'s out....LOL.

I\'m ready.  I heard it takes a few different turns off the usual DW road, but I haven\'t heard anyone complaining too much, so I\'m not worried.

I still have DW2 and DW3.. I\'ll probably sell them for the cash needed to get the 4th installment, since I won\'t be playing them afterwards.

I\'m anxious to see how the improved AI works out, as well as the siege system.  The difficulty of the game is said to have increased a lot, which is nice. :)

LIC seriously, do you even like videogames?

I mean i\'ve been here since 2000 and its a rare site to see you like anything. Theres a huge difference between being picky and having bad taste in overall =/

Anyways, the characters (most of them) look great with there new designs and the graphics appear to be looking a lot better than 3.

So far out of the three new Characters
Cao Ren
Huang Yeu Ying
Zhou Tai

Zhou looks to be the most interesting. He\'s got a really cool looking model design, like a knight kinda with the sword of a samurai.

Anyways, DW4 is one of the better co-op games out there so me and my friends are all extremely stoked.

Well, I\'m looking forward to it... Dynasty Warriors 2 got tonnes of playing time outta me, and I\'m sure they\'ve improved on that by plenty... since I missed 3 this\'ll be a welcome diversion while I wait for the new matrix, xmen, and charlie\'s angels to hit theaters... :)

I think all DWs since 2 are way too repetitive, with nothing remerkable about the gameplay and with grtaphics that suck. The fog is only a few meters away from u,the characters are low polygon-made.And the textures? My PSX1 could do that textures.

I wonder why this game got so much attention. Some described it as the game that looked as good as Soul Calibur on DC with a lot more characters on screen.Yeah right.

Agree\'d. What is it a rip -off of? No other game has had the same amount of enemies and what not. Infact, no other game has game close.

With that said - I still don\'t care for the series.

Then why the **** did you post in here LIC. We take it that those who dont post in this thread must not be a fan of the series.

I mean honestly, Sure Ive done something similar a few times, But it really is stupid.

On topic: I have found a fairly good website with character bios: and all the new characters :D
http://www.poyzn.net/dw3/dw4.html
new characters: i believe their must be more:
Yue Ying : Female : Shu
http://www.poyzn.net/dw3/images/dw4/yue_ying.jpg
Zhou Tai : Male : Wu
http://www.poyzn.net/dw3/images/dw4/zhou_tai.jpg
Cao Ren : Male :Wei
http://www.poyzn.net/dw3/wei/cao_ren.html

Looking good; All the characters have very new costumes. My personal favorite character :  Gan Ning : http://www.poyzn.net/dw3/images/dw4/gan_ning.jpeg

Look around lots of pictures.

Yeah yeah. The old coin-op style of games I used to play years ago only now its basically the old idea camouflaged in 3D and with added enemies on screen at the same time.

I posted because I wanted to, is there a problem Spudz? Okay, then.

And Unicorn! , if you want to look at it from that viewpoint, you may as well quit playing games. There are no truly original games. Everything is the same premise as classic games, \'cept brought to 3D. Yes, even those games you so often praise.

My point? It is quite hyprotical to to condem Dynasty Warriors for taking the beat\'em up genre for 3D, when every other game is doin\' the same and have been since the 3D genre started.

I\'m sure Spudz has no problem LIC. But when you repeatedly take your time out to run down most games on the market you come off like a, a, a hmmm... snoby prick maybe?

By no means assume that I mean you have to like every videogame you come across but in the same sense you don\'t have to run (which in your case it seems to be 99.9%) down all the games you come across.

But like you said, you wanted to post which you have the right to do so. So Spudz the best you can do is just ignore it =|

I wouldnt consider DW even an evolution.Usually the other games take the genre and add new ideas or improve a previous gameplay aspect which lacked due to technology limitations. What I see in DW is almost the same game I used to play just in 3D.
Should I pick DMC as an example? Its not the typical button mashing action game.
FF?KH?Vagrant Story?Today\'s RPG\'s have so much variety in gameplay that even if they dont deliver anything remerkably new u just dont pay much attention.Usually its the story that make u buy these games
GT3?I dont remember any 2D simulation games.Besides.GT3 is the game for Car lovers. Not just for gamers.
Burnout2?What previous game can be compared to it?Since the 32-bit days nothing.Any 2D game?Outrun?Still cant.It was always a straight highway just bending slightly to the left or to the right.
Rachet and Clank?HUGE worlds, and a variety of weapons and gadgets.
MGS2?Improved AI.Interactivity to the max,and the 3D cameras turned the game into something that could be truely called tactical espionage stealth game. Its like playing in a movie.
Bored to talk about other games. Its 1 o\'clock in the morning right now in Cyprus and  I feel sleepy

For some genres the shift from 2D to 3D made the experiences more exciting as it added gameplay ideas previously not possible.

But how has DW improved the genre\'s experience? They just threw a ton of characters on screen, a couple of buttons more, and added some character customization which I didnt find interesting enough. Its a button mashing game.

You mistake me for someone who cares if I come off as a "snoby prick". Make no mistake, I don\'t care for most games that come out on the market. I however, won\'t withold my opinion.

Fair enough, Unicorn, but at the same time. You can\'t say DW didn\'t make the beat\'em\' up more interesting or exciting. Large enviorments? Ditto! Massive amount of enemies on screen? Ditto! Decent story? Ditto! Massive amount of playable characters? Ditto! All these make the game a more "exciting" version of the classic beat\'em\'up\'s we are use to .

Trust me I made no mistake. I care about one thing really, that thing is Central use to be the best PS2 fan site on the net, it was full of great topics, many posts and great people. However over time its degrated to what it is now, a 2nd rate PS2 board. People like you don\'t help the situation, your quite a lame f\'ucker and even more so your annoying, simple as that =)

Your posts are predictable and repetitive with your nagativity BS, its a shame Bjorn never did put an ignore button into the forum because your banter is not what the site needs if it ever wants to be something it once was. Although I could be wrong by now, I haven\'t had a PC for close to 8 months and only visited the site rarely during that time.

If there is one, please indulge me and tell me.

Thanks for the link spudz... It makes me crave the game... I\'m in a no-game zone right now (except for some freelancer)...

As for improving etc....

GT3 = GT or GT2 with better graphics... more cars maybe... no radical changes though.  Yes, based on outrun, which was the way it was because of limitations on the hardware of the time.

MGS2 = same game, some new abilities, items, but mostly updated graphics.

FF?  FFX was just FF VII-IX without the pre-rendering.  FF VII-X are FF I-VI in 3D.

Ratchet and Clank?  Sonic the Hedgehog 10x bigger (less limitations of hardware), which was supermario but better in the first place.

Don\'t get me wrong, all four of those games have been played and enjoyed by me, but you have to see that every game is based of another game these days...  even radical concepts have been done at some point with lesser graphics.  I think you don\'t consider what they\'ve done for DW4 \'innovative\' because you don\'t like the game...  bigger maps, more enemies, items, players, customizations is exactly the kind of innovation I want in a sequel to a game I already love...  Sometimes over changing hurts sequels (after FFVII, I hated the magic system for VIII).

First off, it is people like me who has been here for years now and actually care what this board is. And that is a place for people to discuss games , with their own opinion. I don\'t bash anyone\'s opinion, everyone is goin\' to like different games. But I also expect to use the same right, that I so often mention .

Repetive and overly negative? First off, I don\'t even post that often in the Main Forum. And if it\'s negative, its because my opinion of the game is negative. But, I do post postive ones also, when I think it is deserved. Example? Zone of the Enders 2. I have praised that game. You don\'t see that though, because you got your head up your a$$ and are makin\' crazy judgements.

Yes, there is a ignore option. Use it, if you think I am annoying. It makes no difference to me.

;)

As for Fatal, right on man..Right on.

What does garner "special attenion" is the fact that people like me, have actually tried to make a change in the board and improve it. Who helpd started up Console Discussion? Ginko, Ryu, Ashford, Sonyfan and I. We all cared about the importance of various opinions and discussion of the industry.

I\'m gonna go "Lu Bu" on you people! :p So stop bickering! :p

This game is gonna be bad ass. Of course....the archers will be ever MORE annoying! But they just drive me more insane with murderous intent! WHOOO! :D

I can hardly wait to just jump into a crowd of enemies and just slash at them like Sauron did in Fellowship of the Rings movie (opening scene). :p

In prefer playing games like Golden Axe than DW.There is more skill in the 10+ years old GA than DW.

You do have to worry about enemies striking you from behind, left right and center! The map isn\'t completely flat! There are lots of paths that meander up a hill, or even a fortress gate! Fogging is a problem at times but even the Xbox version gets fogging.

And there is no "bond" between the player and character coz it\'s just a summary of battles that happened eons ago! There\'s no RPG character story....just battles that each character has to go through. There is no RPG elements other than how you win the battle which can determine the next path. You get some hit points added but that\'s about it.

Even from a fan like myslef - this game is mindless fun! It\'s not for everyone. But I like how I can turn the tide of battle on one portion of the map! The allies fight harder whenever I kick ass on the most strategic location whici in some ways is how real battles are like!

Don\'t mean to call you out, just find it funny.

I just pointed that out to tell how rawly the story and the characters were thrown there just to make a game.Even if there is no story the experience would still be the same.As for the characters whoever u choose is playied almost identically. You just pick the character whose looks and weapon fit to your style.4 or 100 characters to choose from it wouldnt make any difference.

He specializes in the bow but you never really use it =/

well...no more than any other character....you just use his melee weapon.

Apparently there are bow characters/character in DW4.

Anyways, the reason people like the DW series I think is because sometimes they just don\'t want a complex mind bending game, sometimes you just wanna kill A LOT of people.

Its senseless mindless fun with interesting story (although obviously not told in the best measure, if you really want a great story of the three chinese kingdoms then read the book)

and like I said its one of the only real decent co-op games out there (sports games are immensly tedious). If DW3/XL/4 didn\'t have co-op I guarantee I wouldn\'t be then fan I am now.

Heh, all this talk about it makes me impatient... I just played DW2 for like 3 hours.. I love this game :)

simple gameplay + good music + graphics + game rewards = key to a good game.

When I\'m in the mood for something complex... well, that\'s what RPGs are for.

LIC i dont think you saw my point in my post.

I said it more as to an Insult rather than anything else. I dont care if you think the game is a piece of shit. I like it, theirfore your opinion is nothing to me. As to everyone else who posted in this thread who likes the Dynasty Warrior series.

And about you saying every game is a copy of another- wrong. Games branch off. If if your statement were to be true, we would be playing 3d flamin pong as of now. It doesnt work that way. Games copy eachother and branch off. Games literally grow off other games. If you expect someone to create some totally origional title/plot/gameplay. It doesnt happen alot, people need ideas to depend on. I dont really have a whole lot more to say.

Other than i suggest you just leave the thread alone after, even if you do read my post. it will follow in a flame war. You are outnumbered in this here topic.

Just so everyone knows I wasn\'t arguing about DW I was arguing about LIC\'s attitude.

I have also written a personal letter to LIC apologizing for the incident

"Joker wrote on Today 02:44 PM:
Hmm...

I don\'t really know where to begin other than saying how embarrased I feel. I would like to apologize for fighting with you and cursing towards you.

I\'m not going for sympathy but my excuse is one the plainest you could recieve, i\'ve simply had a bad week and have been looking for ways to relieve the frustration even by starting arguments over trivial purposes.

If you don\'t care to hear any of this I can understand, I woke up today and re-read the thread with a clear mind and realized how little of a person I was being.

Indeed, if you hate most things you have your right to post your feelings weather I agree with them or not and I apologize for trying to dictate(sp) them.

In my belief of trying to tell you about positivity and how its one of the things the board needs at this time, I hypocritically added to the tension and fuled it to go further.

Anyhoo, I hope for your acceptance of this apology but however like I stated if thats not possible I understand and if you choose not to respond please know that I am sincerly sorry.

-Josh "

LIC
"Apology accepted and I also apologize for the little encounter.

All is well. "
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyways, to the peeps who do not want to read all that I basically tried to say I was having a bad week and picking arguments oversensless things and although I may not agree with LIC, I by no means have the right to dictate to him how his own attitude should be.

so....ANYWAYS......

DW4 comes out a week today and me and my buddy are totally stoked about it. Nothing beats having a friend help you maime hundreds of people =D

GT3 = GT or GT2 with better graphics... more cars maybe... no radical changes though.  Yes, based on outrun, which was the way it was because of limitations on the hardware of the time.

This made me laugh... Play GT3 for a few hours and then go back and try GT2 or GT... You\'ll notice a lot of difference in physics especially.

Yeah, but do you consider improved physics a \'radical innovation\' or an improvement of an existing game that is possible because of better technology?  That\'s what I was driving at.  I mean, I also compared it to outrun, which isn\'t the same game, just based on the same principals, at a level dictated by the tech of the time...

Fate has forsaken me! Why must obligations and responsibilities and loyalty prevent me from playing Dynasty Warriors 4? Why? WHY???

After purchasing the game, I had to go to the gym to work out! Then I had to visit my fiance afterwards! Tonight I must travel two hours to visit my sister! Tomorrow I have appointments to go to! Woe is me! It won\'t be until until close to midnight tomorrow night before I can play DW4! But I must be up early for training on Saturday!

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

I wish I was a high school kid again.

Well as a fan I can safely say this is the best in the series...

me and my bud bought it for the co-op and man is it ever great. Best looking of them all by far, great hack and slash controls, ugh just everything that could be improved is improved.

to those of you who played previous Dynasty Warriors you will know that beating a characters Mousou (story) mode can take just a half hour.

Well today me and my friend started at 4:00pm and didn\'t finish until 9:30pm, imagine doing that with 40 more characters, obviously me and my friend were totally noob characters with no items and no great weapons but still... They are soooooooo much bigger,  i\'m no nooby, i have DWXL and can survive well on Very Hard on any stage, weather it be against a bunch of archers whatever it is, i\'ve done it.

Maybe I was just going slow or something but thats how long it took an experienced player to do 1 mousou mode. They really try a lot harder to give you a story.

The levels all look great and remember when you use to jump and hit an invisible wall for no reason, all (if not most) has been taken out and the level of freedom is amazing compared to DW3.

If your a fan, you HAVE to get this. Obviously if your not just rent it to play with a few characters (to do everything will take many many many hours).

Comparing this to PAST DYNASTY games only. This gets a 10/10.

Its cool for now you can despatch your guards anywhere on the map and let them do their own job defending HQ or a pass or ambush.

Man, this game really ~IS~ the best of the series! A weapon with RPG elements (haven\'t seen that since Parasite Eve)! Despite the lack of Japanese, the "Engrish" voice over is still laughably funny - almost a comic relief. :)

No Japanese voice option? Not even unlockable?

Oh man. :(

AAARGH! The peons and sargents are knocking me down like a bowling pin while the big name enemies are like speed bumps before my character! WHOOT! :D So, instead of beating a level in 10 minutes like in DW2 and 3, it takes significantly longer to finish a level in DW4!

That\'s what I noticed.

In 2 player do the people still pop up out of no where?

Also how is the fogging?
