Title: What should we do with NASA now?
Post by: M4 on March 16, 2003, 12:39:19 AM
I think we should kill off the shuttle program and replace it with something safer, cheaper, and more modern. And then we need to build a hotel on the moon.

Um...the shuttles were very safe and modern. They were designed to go 100 times safely. Plus, they upgrade them like every year so they were pretty new. Columbia was hit by debris. They would not have come home even if they tried. There was no rescue possible (to my knowledge) for the Columbia. They were doomed from the start.

Yea Titan, but there are more advanced craft out there that were scraped. SOme worked..some didnt. They can stand to upgrade.

Its just like some of the neon enthusiasts I know. They all want a SRT b/c its a 2.4litre turbo car.

Well, we have been swapping 2.4\'s in our neons for years now as well as turbos. Hell, lots of turbo 2.4\'s. But everyone still wants it from *factory*.

You cant tell me that retrofitting items into exsisting technology is better than it all from get go.

As for the program, I guess by my example, I think we need to phase out the other shuttles and work towards newer, more efficient, safer, and more advanced craft.

You are right about htat, they did make new and advanced craft but the reason they were scrapped was because they couldn\'t fly or they went completely over budget and got too expensive. A prime example is the craft Lockheed Martin was making. They ran out of money before they could even get a prototype built, which is a shame because that was the best one of the new ones.
