I guess they really took our calling of "freedom" fries to heart. Silly frenchmen.
Pretzels for Peace (http://story.news.yahoo.com/fc?cid=34&tmpl=fc&in=World&cat=Antiwar_Movement)
Damn, it sucks that my name is French.
-
We are idiots for saying Freedom Fries and fredom toast. They are idiots even paying attention and responding to it.
-
We should all boycott Ubisoft and Rayman....LOL.
-
I feel sorry for the people that hate the FRENCH for what they did. You can\'t boycott a country for wanting peace. That just makes people look at the US citizens like a bunch of "join us or go to hell" type. That\'s bullshit that they\'re doing that both the french and the US people. Those Bloodthirsty shit eaters.
-
We want peace too. That\'s why this is being done. That\'s the point. We aren\'t doing this because it feels good to blow shit up (Although it does). We are doing this to rid the world of an "evil doer"......
Hating the French not for what they did. If they had a just reason for vetoing the resolution then I\'d say rock on. But they have alterior motives. HUGE ones. Chirac is a puppet to Saddam and it is sad.
-
I wonder if Bush will just keep the pretzels and eat them. I\'d do that and tell them to keepem coming :)

Please...Who doesn\'t? Not like we dont; specifically Bush and Cheney.
Remember Noriega and Panama?
Everything was fine and dandy untill some bad press was leaked into the in media and made the US look bad. Then and only then did we did something about him.
Untill that decision came, we just reaped the drug money.

The fact is the French would have opposed any action that involved removing Saddam from power AND it was for purely economical reasons.
It is also a fact he is in clear violation of UN Resolutions - the SCUDS he launched at Kuwait last night should be adequate proof he did not dispose of the weapons he claimed to have gotten rid of.
I agree every side has motives other than the ones they portray to be the real reasons, but France has a bucket full and they can only thank themselves for bringing the diplomatic process to a halt because of their selective "ignorance" to the facts that Saddam was and still is in violation of resolutions that they voted in favor of.

I would say its about even.
France "made" America. They saved you from the jaws of the British. They helped out to form your constitution.
To tell the truth I think this damn “we saved you”, “they saved you” thing is pretty damn silly.
I don’t think one should be forced to do anything if the really don’t want to.
But I think the French stance in the UN was a little naive, saying they would vote no to any resolution before they heard all of it was a not so wise choice IMO.

While I agree with most of what you said fastson, I would like to point out that when France helped the US gain its independence, it was more to stick it to the British than it was to help the US. The French monarchy was still angry about the British kicking them out of North America in the French Indian War only 10-15 years prior.
In all honesty I do think it is an overused argument regarding who helped who and it shouldn\'t be brought up.

Thats true.
The French and Brits have not been the best of friends in past times.
France did NOT make America.
They at least helped to make America. Without French support in the war there is no guarantee that the US would have won, not facing a well trained army as the Brits had.
-
France assisted the American colonists in the Revolutionary War (or Civil War as my headmaster from Britain told me). To what extent, well, it\'s been a long time since I read my high school history books but I do recall a French sargent training the colonists on how to aim and shoot, march and follow various commands for field battle.

The French Navy was the biggest help. No denying that, but the France of today is not nearly the France of 1781 so it is hard to compare the two situations.
-
Seeing that we are in a mood for renaming or destroying anything French.
When will you behanding back the Statue of Liberty ?
it is after all a gift given to the Colonial forces after their victory of the battle of independance over the British.

It was a Revolutionary War.
Think of it America as an independent State didn\'t even Exist until the victory over the British was achieved.
Yes the war was over independence but the country wasn’t born until the singing of the decoration of independence
/me says "Now were is the line for TEST for American Citizenship me is ready" ;)
And not only did the French help train colonists but most of the Americanised Militray speek (even to this date ) reflect this.
Example Sorties

The Headmaster at my old high school, who was from Britain, said and I quote "Rrrrevolutionary War? Rrrubbish! \'twas a Civil War!"
The American history teacher could only wink at me. ;)
I was assigned to sit at the Headmaster\'s family table that week. All of the students in the dorm had assigned seating at the Dining Hall each week.

From what I\'ve read (its been a while for me too) they sent over something around 10 000 - 20 000 soldiers. Might have been more, my memory is a little fuzzy on that part.
Im going to look for more info when I have time.
Iäve been watching Sky News all day :)

I don\'t think so. For that time, that\'s a LOT of soldiers to transport across the Atlantic! Especially when the Royal Navy ruled the seas!
-
After a quick search:
"One thousand officers and more than 15,000 soldiers (Land service) were directly engaged in North America (2,113 lost their lives)"
http://xenophongroup.com/mcjoynt/fr-contr.htm
Thats a pretty big army for that time.

You Americans scare me... seriously.

America is the greatest power on this planet, and i hope they don\'t stop with IRAQ, i hope they kick some iranian asses, and then clean up the middle east... then onwards to other nut-crackers, like that guy in Korea. :D
Nuke em all Uncle Sam ! NUKE EM !
