Title: Why do other companies try to compete with EA Sports?
Post by: Piche84 on March 21, 2003, 09:14:54 PM
Just wondering why other sports games keep coming out that aren\'t EA.  Does anyone actually buy them?  More importantly do they then like them?  EA is the absolute best for sports games.  Why anyone would go with 989 sports or whatever else there is just boggles me.  Everytime I try one of their new titles I\'m dissapointed.  How do the other companies do business?

989 Sports used to be good.

Gameday 98\' was the shit.

Since then, I don\'t think anyone HAS bought a 989 sports game :p

And Sega Sports rocks, you should give them a try.  Embrace something new, it\'s the only way to better yourself.

NHL2k3 owns NHL 2003 easily.
NBA2k3 owns NBA Live 2003 easily.
Madden gets the nudge in football but NFL2k3 is close.
....and i hate baseball so screw that.

Well, I really enjoyed F1 Racing Championship 99, a budget F1 game by Ubisoft. Most videogame mags somehow didn\'t like it though, while they praised EA\'s 2001/2. I traded my F1 RC 99
in once to be able to buy another game. Recently I itched to have
a F1 game in my PS2 collection, so I got EA\'s  F1 2002 from the
budget bin. My my, what a dissapointment. It does indeed look
pretty, but the framerate is HORRIBLE :crying:  (It\'s on one of those blue PS2 cd-rom\'s for my money\'s sake  ! ) Wasted € 20 on that. Meh.. I\'ll never get an EA F1 racing game again. Framerate is most important for racing, not slick graphix, EA !

Couldn\'t agree more. Amen!

EA is all about great presentation and mediocre gameplay if you ask me, although I enjoy SSX and I liked NHL200 when it came out. That\'s about it though.

NBA2K3 is too much of the same thing. IMO, live is much better.

Oh yea, I hate baseball too.

I don\'t know why, but I can\'t help but feel that EA are rather lacking when it comes to sports games. Knockout Kings, F1200X, FIFA............they all lack realism. Sure, they might LOOK better, but that don\'t cut it for me. As far as I\'m concerned, realistic gameplay is just as important as exceptional graphics, and EA sacrifice the former for the latter.

I will more than likely steer clear of anything that has EA Sports on it in future.

Ok first of all open wheel left turning and faggy kickball (soccer) don\'t really count cause those so called sports suck.  I have tried the other companies games and I\'m always dissapointed.  The only one that I ever thought was decent was Joe Montana Football for Sega back in the day.

OI RETARD!!!

Stop acting normal.

Kickball??? Ha, don\'t make me laugh.

edit///

"open wheel left turning"?? That isn\'t F1, you dick, that is CART, that is IRL. Get your facts straight, you simpleton.

F1 is run on 16 very DIFFERENT circuits, ranging from the streets of Monaco to the long straights of Monza. It\'s you yanks (I\'m assuming you are American anyway) that are responsable for inflicting ovals on the racing world.

Your laughable "world series" sports are nothing compared to OUR genuine "World championships".

The only reason you make your own sports up is because you are crap at everything else.

I\'m genuinely sorry if I have offended any other Americans, I truely am, but this dipshit has got my back up with his idiotic comments. I have nothing against America, or Americans, just this tosspiece.

The rest of you, please accept my apologies.

sorry I didn\'t mean to piss anyone off with my faggy kickball comment.  I didn\'t think people would take it so seriously.

Sorry about the F1 mix up.  I\'m not a big motorsports guy.

I\'ll keep my opinions to myself from now on, as I see people are going to get all bent if I post them here.  I thought that\'s what this forum was for.  Sorry.

Try to compete? Visual Concepts OWNS EA in every possible sense.

EA = Over-rated.
VC = under-rated.

So true it\'s not even funny.

EDIT: Treyarch, the developers of the NHL2k series have already surpassed the NHL XXXX series.

It seems to me that EA concentrates on graphics and cut scenes.  They are cool, but the gameplay is what makes the game.

Allow me to rephrase my previous statement to appease all those opposed....

I\'m sorry fellas, I don\'t believe I\'ve ever played F1 racing or soccer games.  Not a big fan personally.  I was talking more in the big four (basketball, baseball, football, and hockey).

*thinks a minute

Is it ok to say big four?  Oh hell I\'ll go with it.

Although the graphics are sometimes equal I always find the game play nods to EA.

you can say it, but it still doesn\'t make sense. In what way are any of those bigger than for instance football (soccer, if you will)

You may say so, that\'s your opinion. But I\'m pretty damn sure football (or soccer as you call it) is bigger than all those four combined, mainly due to the fact that basketball, baseball and American football only are big sports in the US.

Soccer on the other hand has billions of fans combined around the world, it\'s the only sport that could pass as a universal "religion". ;)

Well now I know and knowing is indeed half of the battle.  I didn\'t know there were that many foreigners on this site.  I know you guys like soccer and more power to you.

In the US I think everyone would agree that the big four are Hockey, Baseball, Football, and Basketball.  Just because America (on the whole) doesn\'t like soccer doesn\'t mean you all have to get pissed off at me.

I\'m sorry for the international incident.  I will indeed keep my thoughts to the Madden forum (the real football).
