Title: Protesting, it\'s the American thing to do!
Post by: Ace on March 23, 2003, 11:56:03 AM
Isn\'t this a lovely picture? Anyone want to take a guess what part of the country . .  more specifically, what city this beautiful act of patriotism was taken?

Well it\'s no worse than seeing these women on TV saying how they are against the war and there husbands are over seas, if anyone catches wind of that and sees them there husband is in some shit.

I find it funny that they protest for peace but they erupt into violence. How is that peace?

The same could be said about any demonstration.

Tempers flare...etc..etc..

It happens at abortion clinics...pro-(whatever group) rallies..etc..etc..

Doesnt make it right..but is what happens.

I don\'t know what city that photo was taken in, but that\'s just wrong.  No group / political party / belief system has a monopoly on stupid idiots.  Some anti-war protesters are stupid idiots too, like the a-hole who made that sign.  However, let\'s not mischaracterize the entire anti-war movement by saying they all believe shit like this.

I just want to make one more statement about anti-war protests "erupting in violence."  Do not assume that things like this just happen spontaneously.  The police forces in most large cities are deeply conservative and naturally opposed to legal demonstrations and protests.  Makes sense, because protests just create more work for them, right?  Most of the situations where protests "erupted in violence" they were not eruptions at all.  They are usually provoked by the cops.  I\'ve witnessed it, so I know what I\'m talking about.  The cops could make some very simple common sense decisions to let a peaceful crowd dissipate on it\'s own, but instead the move in with horses and sticks and decide to "restore order" even though no laws have been broken.  Of course some individuals will get pissed off and things will escalate.

Also don\'t forget that the media exaggerates the extent of the violence after these situations occur.  Instead of filming thousands of people peacefully waking down the sidewalk, they always go out of their way to film the 2 or 3 antisocial boneheads who decide to pick up a can or a rock and throw it at something.  With only 20 seconds of airtime to spend on the story during the evening news, which shot do you think will make the cut?

I don\'t think all protesters are of this mindset. I also understand how the the media works and that the cops at some of these rallies might not be the brightest bulbs in the pack. They do have a tough job and they are also on high alert because of the terror warnings.

Here\'s another clue: This city has been host to two very unique protests . .  vomiting and defecating in the name of peace.

What the US should do is to throw these people into Iraq with a gun and get their ass bombed. Then they\'ll know who they should support.

And the guy in the mask...probably a Muslim terrorist in disguise. Who knows.

In that instance, I was generally speaking about whatever a protester happens to be for.
