Title: Yet another question......
Post by: luckee on March 23, 2003, 12:34:14 PM
So now that they(iraq) apparently may have some POW\'s.......

Bush is saying he expects them to be treated the way we treat theirs and that they shouldnt be humiliating them on television according to the rules of the Geneva Convention or they will face war crimes.

Anyone find this a little hypocritical seeing how the allied forces didnt enter into this war legally in the first place?

PS..keep your political bullshit out of this thread as it is not what it is about.

Also..this has nothing to do with your stance on the war..Saddam..Bush..Blair..nothing..just the issue at hand.

If you cant handle that..dont even bother posting in this thread.

But we didn\'t enter the war illegally.  It was voted on unanimously and there are 16 other resolutions they have snubbed.

So your question is nil.

We should treat their POWs the way they treat ours and see how they like it. But our country doesn\'t run that way and we treat the POWs how they should be treated. They should atleast do the same. I just pray to god that these POWs come back alive.

We wouldn\'t treat people like that, unless of course they have info to give of course.  But we certainly wouldn\'t take video of us beating the shit out of the POW.

Beating and killing people who are in charge of fixing trucks is ridiculous.

But it still isnt the point I brought up in this thread.

They could have been killed in a firefight and took the bodies like in Somalia.

What is your point? That it acceptable to treat the POWs like animals because the Iraqis feel this war is not just? Like it would matter.

The point I felt was stated quite openly to understand.

Once again..we(US) are allowed to break the rules as long as others dont.

Name a single rule we\'ve broken?  This war is not illegal!!!!

Its been stated numerous times that we didnt have UN approval..so therefore it would be illegal.

Not like they would have given the go ahead..but thats another story.

I think the US went without UN approval because we\'ve been waiting for Iraq to disarm for over 12 years now. Frankly, after that long, the US government is growing a bit impatient. Theres only so far you could push a government before they react. We\'ve had our embasys bombed, buildings attacked, troops attacked, bases bombed, the Cole, killing innocent civilians as in 9/11, kidnappings like the US embassy in Iran and Daniel Pearl and theres only so much the US government bent over backwards and ignored this. Now the government has had enough and is taking action for all these attacks and kidnappings against America.

I think Luckee\'s point is, the rules only apply for when it works for us.

We descredited the UN and ignored the UN - but now that something is happening, we fall back and want international laws to apply. We want our cake and eat to. Typical, really.

We want our soldiers to be treated like human beings. Not gonna happen as George Sr. might say. It is Iraq after-all.

Since when is the UN the authority on whether a war is legal or not?  Please... this whole question is pointless.  The war is not illegal and the treatment of POW\'s is not tied to the legality of this war - its totally separate.

They got two more POWs from a shot down Apache. Supposedly, these two pilots are being treated better than the others.
