Well, the new highly portable (and backlit!) GBA SP has launched. And all indications seem to be that they are in limited quanities. Has anyone picked up one? I got one today, but was only able to find one and that was at a rinky-dink Wal-mart in the smallest town around.
First impressions are mixed. It is stylish, that\'s for sure. Flip down face is nice and very next-gen. However, the button placement seems cramped and the new \'L\' and \'R\' buttons are abit to small for my liking...
The big thing is the light. My god how it improves things.. CastleVania: COTM , one of the darker games ever, is now bright as I could ever want it to be..Very sweet indeed.
Not a bad entry for the GBA line, but I can\'t help and think this should of been the original model and the button placement could of been worked on.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
-
I have some thoughts, yes.
-
Then..how about you share them, Jumpy?
Hmm?
-
I\'ll let you know my thoughts when mine arrives next week (imported the black one). I did mess with a friends a bit and walked away impressed. It\'s compact design, improved screen, and improved sound push this thing far beyond the "GBAServicePack" that some people are touting it as for it\'s SP acronym. This is what the GBA should have been at launch.

My friend has one. What is there to say question mark. It\'s smaller, cooler looking, cramps your fingers still after short play time, backlit screen, worth owning if you do/don\'t have a GBA already.
-
I didn\'t get one. My brother and I are fully satisfied by my GBA w/Afterburner.
I do feel tempted, though. :) The SP is one attractive piece of gaming hardware.

Circuit City is including a free game this week...

Speaking of GBA SP and games....Here is the reason I bought mine.

Yes! A brand spankin\' new Castlevania game..CastleVania: Aira of Sorrow, to be released May the 7th. I will no longer need to go blind, squinting at the screen for over 10 hours.

I already own a GBA. I do not feel the need to spend money on something because of its shape and something that should have been included with the original.
-
I won\'t buy one as it closely resembles a calculator I had in the eighth grade.

My initial thought about the SP : "DAMN that\'s ugly! Looks like it\'s taken a fall down ugly tree and hit every single branch on the way down. Yuck. Egad. I\'ll never even touch that thing. I think I\'m going to be sick. Bobo, hold me up.... ooh... *faint*"
Now I want one. And I want it bad. I do own a GBA, but... hell, I think I\'ll sell it and get a GC and an SP. I\'m stuck between a rock and a hard place here; I\'m all outta dough, and I just HAVE to get a GC or the SP... with Prime and Zelda... I can\'t resist anymore... and I got a voucher that\'d get me 15% off a GC\'s price. Or SP\'s. Dangit.
About around 5th of April, I will own a new Nintendo console..
-
I got a GBA already. I\'m not gonna bother getting the SP.
The special battery is a drawback imo. On vacation in other
countries, how the hell would I be able to recharge that
thing ? I just wanna have the comfort of popping in 2
AA batteries. And oh yeah... the lack of standard headphone
plugin is a drawback, especially if I\'m traveling by train.
-
With Zelda now and Def Jam Vendetta on deck, I didn\'t have the money I expected to spend on an SP... But don\'t worry, Nintendo, as soon as I come up with cash to burn, it\'s yours. :D

Wait how much are these again? I played the metriod on it and i was very wowed. Its amazingly comfortable, (for me at least). Its friggin sweet, and the sound isnt terrible. I still want headphone jacks dammit.
-
$100 USD, probably around $110 if you can find the headphone adapter too. I\'m not sure if that\'s out yet.

DAAAAAMN! Talk about cheap. Sheesh
by the way, refurbished x boxes for 150. still doesnt compare tho

Now if only some EBs just popped up here in Finland... :(
Nomatter... I couldn\'t decide between the SP and CG, so I got both. Yesterday I walked home with
1×GameCube Metroid Pak
1×GBA SP (blue)
There\'s this campaign going here in Finland "Buy an SP, get 50 euros off a GC". Couldn\'t resist. And the Metroid pack\'s price is 40 euros cheaper than a standalone GC. And to top it all, I used the voucher that cut 15% off the whole shebang. Cost total of 280 euros. Nintendo\'s really trying to get these things sold here with all these campaigns and stuff. The prices will go back up after the end of May.
Metroid rox! And the SP is one sexy mutha.
[EDIT] Oops, the total cost was 280 minus that 50 discount from the SP, so that\'s 230 euros.
I\'m a little peeved off here; when does the earphone adapter come out! Me wantee... Next weekend I\'m off to Helsinki to see some old friends. I\'m hoping to find some groovy secondhand GBA and GC software.. and probably the link cable. And that adapter... and a crapload of candy, of course.
