First, I am neutral in this war. When someone is neutral it is easier for them to see what really is happening. First U.S. first attacked Iraq when they invaded Kuwait. After that sanctions and strict confinements were put on Iraq.
I do know that before 9-11 there was no talk about Iraq, except for a couple of no-fly zone violations. Then Iraq kicked the inspectors out. Now it came to be that when U.S. threatened war against Iraq they let the inspectors back in. OK, I was like good, no war. But, Bush insists that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. I said, Why not let the inspectors find them? (I remembe reading an article about how some South African group did an inspection in Iraq with the inspectors and said they were doing a fine job and nothing else was needed.) At this time the economy was bad. But when Bush ordered an assassination on Saddam Hussein I said to myself, does this man listen to anyone? The U.N. said not to go. And, why is it that Iraq must play by the rules of war but the U.S. doesnt have to? (BTW, the stock market goes up at the sight of war. Bush is an economic genius huh.) It wouldnt surprise me if this war was planned long ago...
France does not want to go to war because they know if the U.S. seizes control of the oil they can charge them higher prices. Same goes to Russia and the other countries who were anti-war. (How many civilians were lost in the WTC disaster? 3,000? I remember when I heard an American say "we shall not rest until we get 3,000 of them. Well, you have 600+ already in Iraq, and who knows how many in Afghanistan, + the hundreds of civilians killed or dying because of 4k lb bombs dropping on their head, or sanctions etc)
Reason for this war.
1. The Bush\'s and Saddam\'s "feud"
2. Bush thinks the economy will go up after the U.S. requires the resources of Iraq.
(This last one just added because it wasnt until, what, 5 days ago this was mentioned? So if we dont find weapons of mass destruction we will have something else to fall on?)
3. Liberate Iraq from a cruel dictatorship.
Dont get me wrong, I think Saddam had done some terrible things. But 2 wrongs dont make a right.
Why is it that the U.S. can go to war with anyone it wants, but Iraq or Pakistan and India cant? Basically what I see coming down is a deteriation in the stability of this world. With leaders not following any code and doing as they want, I dont see why others might do the same thing.
Violations that Bush has made that I can think of at the moment
1. Going to war without U.N. support.
2. Attempted assassination on Saddam Hussein.
They impeached Clinton for nothing but they let this man go without so much as a slap on the hand....

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a two edged sword. It both boldens the blood as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind is closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism will offer up ALL its rights to the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I\'ve done. And I am Caesar." -unknown
Sad how some Americans were against this war but when the war started they said "We must follow our leader."
Sad
-
No what is sad is your comparison of Bush and Saddam and coming to the conclusion that Bush is a greater threat than Saddam to the civilized countries of the world.
-
what is REALLY sad, is that quote from ceaser better describes iraqi citizens rather then american citizens
thanks

1. Why should the UN have to OK a war when our, as well as other nations, national sercurity is at risk? The longer Saddam stays in power, the longer he will continue to kill his own people, and the longer he will have to produce WMD\'s. This WAR is JUST.
2. Definately NOT.....When you declare WAR on another country, the leader of that country is fair game. Plain and simple.
-
National Security at risk?
Sounds like what they told my father in Vietnam. "If you dont go other there and do something they will take over the world!"
This is nothing more then propaganda spread by the U.S. Iraq is no threat to the world. Do you actually think that Saddam Hussein is trying to get nuclear weapons to use on other countries? Do you not know that the minute he does him and his city will be destroyed? Why would he want to do that?
I cant imagine what this war is doing to the men on both sides. I can see in my mind the 19 year old shooting Iraqi soldiers running at him...and having nightmares later on that night. I can see more Timothy McVieghs being made. In the Gulf War, as you all know, Timothy McViegh was there. And when he saw the U.S. policy in Iraq he went mad and decided to wage war against his own government. One guys has already gone crazy and has grenaded his fellow soldiers.
The thing is, this war is ruining humans. They dont have to get hurt to get scarred. My father, who was in Vietnam, had to pick up burnt bodies from airplane crashes, watched several planes blow up (One jet pilot waved to his truck as it rolled down the runway, only to be shot at and blown up at the end of the runway), was shot at, and almost died from a allergic reaction he had to a shot. The results are he got PTSD, and made life on my family a living hell. If you ever watched the movie "This boy\'s life". you know what type of father he was. He was just fine before America sent him to "Stop Vietnam from taking over the world"
I dont want to imagine how many children will get a father back who is either a Timothy McVeigh or a PTSD.
I\'ve read Timothy McVeigh\'s letter, and he is nothing more then a man who saw the hypocrisy of the U.S., went crazy, and thought blowing up a Federal building would help his cause. This is the sickos war makes.
Enjoy the new generation

So you are trying to say that McViegh opposed fighting Iraq and did what he did because of the US led war to kick Saddam out of Kuwait????? You really don\'t know your history that well. As far as the other guy goes... he was a recent convert to Islam and had been acting wacky for a while before he did what he did. To say it was because of US policy is assuming quite a lot. Until his trial we won\'t know what he reasons were.

Must be those damn donkey powered ICBM\'s...didnt know they could swim across the atlantic huh?

The risk of Iraq giving weapons to terrorists is just as big as the risk of Saudi Arabia paying terrorists bills for flight school.
Any country could in theory, support terrorisim, so unless our goverment produces some sort of proof that Iraq has been trying to help with an attack on America, they are -not- a threat to the U.S.
But ya know, Saudis are our freinds, they give us there bases, so we sweep things under the rug for them...

Iraq may not be a direct threat to the United States at this point in time, but in the long run, without action taken against them, they could gain the power to become a direct threat to our National Security. We aren\'t going to sit around and wait for that time to come.
They are in fact, a National Security threat to their neighbors at this very moment. For a regime that claims not to have WMD’s, there sure are a lot of gas mask and Chem. Bio suits turning up over there. Just a few hours ago coalition forces discovered 3000 Chem. Bio suits in a hospital in Basra. Iraqi soldiers are being captured with gas mask in their possession.
And when we arrive in Baghdad the whole world is going to get a big fat “I told you so” because they are going to release that toxic shit all over our soldiers. I only hope that our troops Chem. Bio Suits will do their job. And I hope that it doesn\'t come to this, but it most likely will.
Despite what many of you think, we aren’t waging a war against Iraq to serve our own interest. We are simply doing what needs to be done. We don\'t want their land or their oil. We want their people to be free from the horrors they have lived with for so many years.
We didn’t bring the war to Iraq, Saddam brought the war to Iraq. He was given an ultimatum and chose to defy it, just as he has defied the UN resolutions for 12 long years. He could have easily avoided war by packing his shit and getting the hell out of the country. He chose to stay and will ultimately pay the price.
How does one justify the War against Iraq? The answers aren’t that complicated to those who do not wish to defend repression, aggression, and deceit.
He represses his people, is aggressive to the nations that are around him, (invading two of his neighboring countries in an attempt to occupy them) and he lies and deceives to make it look like he isn’t the monster that he really is.
-
So Iraq is a threat to the world? How?
i dont mean to be rude, but its completely imbecile not to view saddam as a lunatic and a threat.
-
I view Bush as a Threat and a lunatic .......... i also view Bush as a lunatic .... and when and i do say When the iraki drop Bio / chem bombs ... its because they will have their backs to the wall ... people will die ... and that mad man will stop at nothing to teach to the US a lesson ... on the other hand ... i dought Bush is sincere when he says ( Iraki Freedom ) .. he wants oil ...
-
Ok...
People who say this is my 2 cents on the war need to die. Shut up. All the arguments have been debated to the death on each sides. No more this is my opinion blah blah blah. Your opinions aren\'t even current events. I can\'t think straight because I\'m so fed up with retards giving their opinion.
/dies
-
well im aloud to expresse myself ... its the only that i have left in me .. words and i made a mistake
I view Bush a lunatic and a threat and Sadam too
-
That\'s ok.
My problem is just with these people creating these threads.
-
MAYBE...We should just allow Threads that inform us of current events. I could go on and type a bunch of shit that you pro-war people would find offensive. Then you would retaliate, then I would say something else and blah blah blah....
The people that say they\'re just "expressing their opinions", maybe they\'re just saying that so it softens it up a little bit. Most of the ones that say that are Anti-War so maybe that could help the whole "your a retard"....."that\'s retarded"...."they had twelve years to disarm"..."I love GWB" comments go away.
I remember a while ago when the forums in here were so put to making them better and taking out the trash. Then you look at alot of these post and they\'re nothing but insults and direct attack on the persons intelligence for what they think and ridicule them for what they write. Im not saying im innocent from doing those things but if there is something you don\'t like then go ahead and comment about it. Don\'t ridicule the person even if it isn\'t a direct insult things like "i dont mean to be rude, but its completely imbecile not to view saddam as a lunatic and a threat." sure its not meant for anybody but you don\'t add any kind of support. Even if it is played out.
That\'s just my opinion though.......
-
I can still honestly say that I have not heard a single intelligent explanation for us to not go to war.
Thank you Clowd for not making me have to change that thought.

here\'s a question for the anti-war people
what do you honestly think to yerself when you hear the reports that iraqi military as turning thier mortars and weapons AGAINST the civilian uprising in basra? or the secret police that "silence" anyone (and thier families) who dare speak out against saddam there? it\'s the nazi SS all over again
what did i say about barbaric last week?
yeah, we shouldnt be there
-
ya ok like we never heard of secret bull*hit going on in US ....... there is no Black and White , Good and Evil , only points a views , Sadam has his back against the wall and he will do everything just to be remembered in history , that includes killing his own people .... but in the end people will asked what pushed him to do that ..
-
you really question why he\'s doing it?
sigh.......
-
The people in other countries have the same or worse living conditions than Iraq. Why don\'t we liberate them instead? Why don\'t we liberate China? They get killed for speaking out against their government(crosses fingers) too.
-
I\'ve said it once. I\'ll say it again. I don\'t care what is happening in Iraq and I don\'t see it is our national responsiablity to pay for such a war, to "free" these people. And who are we to judge what is right and what is wrong? Come on.
As Jumpy said - there are a lot of other places also, that "need" attenion, if we are goin\' to start this free campaign. But, why bother? We don\'t need excuses to attack them, like we needed for Iraq. Freeing the Iraqi people is nothing more than a front, a excuse to attack Saddam.
-
china is a communist state
in some ways, thats a good thing for the people
and they DO NOT get killed for speaking out against the govt
tiananmen square changed ALL that, and even then, the students were RIOTING, did they expect things NOT to get violent? china has THE largest population of any nation in the world. why do you think this is so?
the #1 goal of the war IS to take out saddam, thats a well established fact. ESPECIALLY since GWB said it on national TV
-
Why not Help Palestine ? why not Saubi arabia wich his paying for terrorisme and is the home land of Husama Ben laden ... Why not free Tibet wich has been occupied for many years now ...
no my good sir , Irak is not a treat to America , it has been decided that they were a treat on 911 day when they needed to point somebody ...
I beleive that they do want the oil there too ..
-
noone ever said iraq is a threat, saddam and his puppet regime is
its rediculous to think otherwise
and who is blaming 911 on iraq?
do you just randomly think this stuff up?
tibet occupied? i guess thats one way of looking at it
-
He didn\'t just say Tibet ;)

why not Saubi arabia wich his paying for terrorisme and is the home land of Husama Ben laden

That 48 hour ultimatum was such a joke...what were they trying to do put Saddam out in the open so he would be an easier target? Not a real surprise to me that they attacked him before the 48 hours was up....I dont know the specifics of these Geneva conventions but trying to assassinate a leader of a country without the support of the U.N.?... The point has been and will always be Iraq belongs to Saddam Hussein. Not GWB. Cuba belongs to Fidel Castro. Not JFK.
Saddam did everything in his power to avoid war. He let the inspectors back in, he started destroying his scud missles and disarming even more. But the U.S. hurried through any sort of diplomacy or peace talks because they were so anxious to attack Iraq. It was almost as GWB was possesed by something. Why? Because they feared Iraq attacking somebody? What happened to that fear for 12 years? Did they actually think Iraq would do something while they were in the spotlight?
Any reasonable person not blinded by patriotism can see the hypocrisy in this.
-
i still cannot believe a rational person would defend anything saddam did
its completely and utterly ridiculous, clowd
anyone not blinded by ignorance would see otherwise
am i patriotic? hell no
the traces of cherokee blood in my veins prevents that
-
There is alot of ignorant people in the world then....
-
no, just uninformed
and news media drones
talk to me about the basra uprising yesterday
-
Wasn\'t it 72 hours? And didn\'t the hit come a couple hours after the time was up?
The hit was ordered 45 minutes before the time was up though.
-
It was 48...
And what\'s this crap about Iraq belonging to Saddam?
Countries don\'t belong to any individual and if I recall, Saddam took control in a bloody coup...
-
Saddam did everything in his power to avoid war. He let the inspectors back in, he started destroying his scud missles and disarming even more.

Dangit. THey should have given him more time!!!!!
-
So what if Saddam let them back in?
They weren\'t supposed to be expelled, in the first place...
So what if he started to destroy missiles?
He wasn\'t supposed to have them in the first place...
People like to bring up the same old, tired arguments...
"War for oil"
"Iraq is no threat"
"Let the inspectors work"
Tired arguments for tired arguments...
What about those 12 years, 4 of which there were no inspectors?
-
Yeah, but he was only given 48 hours damnit!!!
That\'s uncalled for!!!!
STOP THE WAR!!!!!!
-
One more thing...
Don\'t bring up that "48 hours" again...
It wasn\'t 48 hours but rather months...
Arab countries already advised exile long before the ultimatum...
I think it was last year or early this year...

Same old arguments yes, but they still remain. You cant deny GWB\'s thirst for oil, you cant deny that Iraq was crawling with weapon inspectors.

Why didn\'t we take the oil in 1991?
Why would Bush, who has a major investment in oil, want to drive prices down?

Putting the flag up was showing America\'s master goal of populating Iraq and taking its resources.

war to "free Iraq" shows blind patriotism. I\'ve talked with people whos realatives are fighting for the U.S. in Iraq...even they dont think this war is all about Freeing Iraq....they say "Free Iraq,,,...and the oil"
edit: (sorry thought you meant "What did you think putting the flag up meant)

If you have relatives in the military, or are very patriotic, you may not want to read this post because you may be offended. I am none of the above, and I speak with no bias. I speak with a clear mind void of nationalism or racism or any other thing that could cloud my judgement. Dont get me wrong, at the moment America gives me freedom of speech, religion, etc, and I am thankful for that. But that will no stop me from saying anything negative about it.
George Bush has made a bad mistake. He has opened a can of worms. I dont see anybody jumping up to try and be a presidential canidate because I doubt anybody wants to clean up the mess he is making. No wonder Gore and Clinton backed out of the presidential race for 2004.
People here have said "Any rational person would want Saddam Hussein removed from power." That is being nearsighted. Millions of people, including Chris Matthews, fear what could come out of this war with Iraq. The events of September 11th were over a few cruise missiles launched on Afghanistan. What do you think this will create? Some guy, forgot his name, was on world news tonight yesterday saying, "If this war drags out, it could create 100 Bin Ladens." It has already created thousands of suicide bombers and increased the hate of America from the Muslim world.
Is Bush starting the crusades again? Yesterday on world news tonight it showed Bush talking (I think it was 6-12 months ago) about the war in Afghanistan and accidently saying "This crusade, uh, this war,...etc" The so called born again christian will probably ignite a new Crusade. Lots of Muslims have already declared Jihad, now I guess its Bush\'s turn to declare a crusade against the Muslims of the Middle East. It makes me sick to hear him talk about "We\'re coming to liberate you Iraqi citizens" when he drops bombs on them all day. Even though I myself am not muslim, I can see why they have so much hate vs America. And the people dropping bombs....how can they go back home and eat with their family at dinner? People who just got finished exterminating untold amounts of people can just walk back, be greeted as heros and go back to family life. Makes me sick to my stomach. Timothy McVeigh, said he was trigger happy with the rest of the troops as they headed to the gulf war in 1991. But when he watched his first victim\'s upper torso dissappear in a puff of blood, he thought "I have been living in America all my life. These people over here never did anything to me, never tried to harm me. But Im going to invade their country and kill them?" He went crazy. What America is doing is very evil in invading a country that does not belong to them. Not only are the putting their own troops at risk, but also the civilians of America will be put in risk.
What I see happening is that U.S./British forces will enter Iraq, and they may take control, but their will be fighting everyday. There will be no peace in the city. Even if they somehow get a government in there, there will be suicide bombings, assassinations and other things that are happening in Afghanistan as we speek. I also see the U.S. attacking other Middle East countries for helping Iraq or some other eason, they may destroy other middle east countries, but they will never fully conqueor them as there will always be fighting there. America will get stuck over there, with tension rising every day. Hijacking of Airplanes will pick up (They already are.) I remember some years ago when everytime you turned around some plane had got hijacked. Those days may come back. Suicide bombers most likely will come to America. Things will happen that will make 9-11 look like nothing. Anti-AMerica/Christian feelings will be stronger then ever in the middle east, whcih will contribute to the bloodshed. I can only hope that I am not caught in the crossfire, by flying a plane or being near a government building. Even when I visit Greece, I am not welcomed because Americans are hated over there. Some cab drivers wont even give you a ride if your American.
I see this only getting worst in the months/years to come. The fairly tale story of Iraq becoming Democratic and all its problems gone are just that, a fairy tale.

The rest of your post was alright. But that ass-kissing to the pro-war people just has to go. I know you tried to evade being called retarded and all that stuff. But trying to ease of the message in your post is kind of gay. Even if they are patriotic or have people in the military they are still going to read it. So get some balls, like others here claim to have, and tell them straight up. Don\'t sugar coat it.

And you dont try and coerce ppl in flammatory posts. Let him post as he wishes and you do as you wish.
Forbid he actually listens to you and one of us mods has to clean up a mess.

But the Pro-War people will probably bash him anyways!!!
It always happens!!! Look around every thread there are insults after insults.

So why stoop to the levels if you dont agree with them.
Dont start anything.

OK, OK!!
Sorry.....sir.......

I will never stop throwing up if that piece of crap ever runs for president or vice president. She is a disgusting human being.

Yesterday I had made a deal with myself not to watch the news anymore. The 5 o\'clock news OK but not this war coverage. But for the last time I tuned into Fox news.
The first thing I heard was that a group of Iraqis, about 16, charged a U.S. tank with only machine guns. The reporter said that a U.S. general said that the tank had "mowed" them down.
Next was the O\'Reily factor. I never had any idea what type of man this was until now. When he bragged about the U.S. killing as many as 100,000 Iraqis already, my heart just dropped in hearing that 100,000 people had been/will be murdered. This is so much worst then 9-11...But I still listened...and when O\'Reily said U.S. troops should just enter Baghdad put as much pressure as possible on them and "splatter" Iraqis everywhere, I changed the channel...to headline news..more bragging about death and what they have destroyed..I pulled the plug on the TV. A couple of minutes later I began weeping for a hour.
This war, has tore at me and wore me down to the point my heart feels like I\'ve just lost a family member in death, a sick feeling.
My anger for the unjustise of this all even pushed my heart to feel joy when I heard that any of the Americans were killed over there.
I have a request. That George W. Bush not say "may God continue to bless" or "God is with us" because if God is supporting this war, I tell you there is no God.

Um, in war people die. Um, in war the side that kills the most and breaks the most things win.
What did you think was happening in Iraq, they were planting flowers?

"...A couple of minutes later I began weeping for a hour."
lol... that\'s the funniest thing I\'ve read in a long time...
It\'s a good thing pantywaists like you aren\'t over there...

No Chizzy, the funny part was when he unplugged the TV.
I was so happy yesterday when I noticed these two threads were going down. Now it\'s up again. God help us if the Unicron threads rears it\'s ugly head again.
BTW, since this thread has been pushed up again. Anyone see the surveilance footage of the box truck blowing up right in front of the Masque? They had surveilance on two semi trucks with tanks on them and up in front of them was a box truck. All of the sudden the box truck just blows up. No missile, no nothing. It just blows up. I wonder how many innocent women and children (Which of course is all we care about) were killed by that? Just a thought.
I have to go. I\'m getting vaklemped.
