Title: “With our souls, with our blood…
Post by: luckee on March 27, 2003, 03:41:37 PM
We will die for you Saddam” is what the Iraqis were chanting as they took the relief food from the US Aid workers under Marine guard.

I thought the Iraqis were so unhappy under Saddam that they would welcome us with open arms and cheer as we overthrew their country!!!! At least that’s what I’ve been hearing from many of the Pro Iraq War crowd. Is this an act, or is it possible that the Iraqis have a different value system that makes them feel the same way would feel if Iraq was invading us to free us from the oppressive Bush regime?

Damn, they are just as brainwashed as most of americans. :(

Peter Arnet did some video reports from Iraq last year on HDNet, and he interviewed ordinary Iraqis in their homes.  Most of them said they really liked Saddam, and they couldn\'t understand why the rest of the world said such bad things about him.

I found this pretty weird at the time.  It was hard to evaluate that show and figure out whether the interviewees were handpicked by Saddam\'s regieme, or whether the people really did love their leader.  Now I\'m beginning to believe that it was probably true.  The Iraqis do love Saddam for whatever reason.  Call it brainwashing if you want, or maybe it\'s just nationalism or ethnocentrism.

Some of those reports are great and seeing Iraq in Hi Definition is really fascinating.  He did a lot of great stuff in Afghanistan as well.

Now for the topic at hand.  Don\'t foget that Peter ALWAYS has a government handler with him.  What do you think would happen if the guy said he didn\'t like Saddam and the guy was a madman?  The dude would be hung.

There\'s never a gray area with you people, is there? It is either all the Iraqis want us involved or all of the Iraqis want us to mind our own business. It depends on whatever news report you see next: Iraqi village greets us with open arms => all Iraqis love us. Iraqi village scorns us => all Iraqis hate us.

Maybe it\'s not as direct as I put it, but this general mindset tends to show in some posts when ever news like this is released.
