American investigators have developed a new transmission protocol that will make possible to transmit a complete movie in DVD format in only five seconds. The protocol, denominated FAST, allows the transmission of up to 8.609 Mb per second–at least in theory. This incredible speed would be possible using 10 simultaneous flows of data on a net shared by several PC. FAST is the acronym of Fast Active queue management Scalable Transmisión control protocol and it has been developed by scientifics of the University of Caltech, USA.
Referring to the project, Harvey Newman, one of the scientists of Caltech, pointed out to the means that “The possibilities to transport, to analyze and to share big volumes of data is an important part of a global cooperation in the environment of the investigations on physics and other scientific areas”. According to the scientist, the fact of being able to transmit data with speeds of 10 Gbps will change the whole concept of Internet.
The terror of the music and cinema industry jejej.

Vid posted something like this about a month ago, but still cool news. But a normal PC couldn\'t download an entire DVD in 5sec because no HD can handle that much information in that amount of time. :nerd:
