Some human shields bit the dust... or so Iraq claims.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/01/sprj.irq.sahaf/index.html

well, what did they expect when the iraqi "elite" soldiers:
- dress as civilians
- feign surrender and then start firing when within range
- freely use iraqi citizens as human shields
The soldiers fired on the van carrying the Iraqis when it failed to stop after repeated warnings
got what they deserved
-
Oh I agree mm, the van incident was a direct result of Iraq advertising that suicide bombings were going to become a common method of attack, but the article I linked to is about some US human shields in a bus on their way to Baghdad.
-
What about the Syrian bus that was hit by a US missle?
As for the guy in the truck or the family incident. I dont really blame the soldiers since they have had to deal with false surrenders and all, but still I dont necessarily blame the Iraqis either. Most do not trust us b/c of the false promises and bombings of shelters in the last war.
-
Some of those bomb shelters had Iraqi artillery on top of it.
As far as the van full of women and children - was it an Iraqi man driving it? Is it possible that the Iraqi military sacrificed the women and children as a ploy to make the US military look barbaric? They knew the US would fire upon a vehicle if it did not stop at the check point.
-
Gman..even the US confirmed that they did infact bomb targets that they shouldnt have. Not all of those shelters had military men or equipment on, near, or around them. Like I said, it is even documneted and admitted by our own government.
You are correct though, as that was the case often as well.
-
That\'s why I said "SOME" of the shelters. Not "ALL".

the childrend didn\'t and it is said for the second bus was a women driving, isn\'t it illegal in most Muslim run countries for women to drive??? Sounds like more Iraqi conjured shit now!!! I just wish Hussein had the balls to do that instead of innocent women and children being forced
-
Since no military officials werent on board, maybe they were just trying to get the hell away from the drama currently infesting Iraq.
-
tho the children did\'nt deserve to die that way, but at the same time it was\'nt the troops fault that they were being used as sheilds by saddams minions.

man some of yer guys info on the arab world is so backward, women are allowed to drive everywhere in the arab world even in saudi as i know and have seen many saudi women who drive.
-
must be hard to drive with a sheet over your head. I think that could actually make women drive worse. ;)

False. Women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. When my parents were there, my mother was not allowed to drive at all.
-
dude maybe that was a long time ago, but right now i have definately seen saudi women driving (i think the rule in saudi is that as chizzy put it wear a sheet over their head or was it that the windows should be tinted, i cant remember) as for Bahrain their are no restrictions what so ever.
-
This was back in 1982-1987. My mother was not allowed to drive. As for the women you saw driving, it may have been an opportune moment when they took their chances to drive. As far as I know, it\'s still not allowed.
During the first Gulf War, the American women were seen driving by the Saudi women. A year later, it was reported on TV that several Saudi women protested by driving as a convoy around a block in some city in Saudi Arabia.

Women are allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia but they have to have blacked out windows. I saw a TV show about Arabs and their fast cars and this was shown and mentioned.
