owwie....
-
I was just going to post this. heh
-
You know these people are interfering with the war. They are trying to keep shipping people from getting shipments out to the troops and the Iraqis.
I think that if the government wanted to push it they could punish these people by up to 30 years in jail. That would be hilarious. friggen hippies.
-
That\'s a beautiful hematoma! :D

Did you think about that before you posted it? It\'s kinda sick.
BTW everyone else: Don\'t assume everything at this protest happened exactly the way CNN says it did. I\'ve seen enough falsification in news reports about protests to make me consider them with a significant degree of skepticism.
-
of course i thought about it
i love seeing college students in the back of the police car or in jail being interviewed saying they didnt do anything, or they know thier rights, or mommy and daddy will sue
if they got beat, it was for a good reason and they fully deserved it
-
You think that deserves getting bludgeoned with big wooden balls.. In the face!?. Cause yeah, thats a little jacked up.

I\'m not one to support protestors or anything, but that\'s the most ignorant statement i\'ve read in a while.....
-
Screaming at and shoving cops ain\'t very smart.
-

Oh nasty!!
What\'s that on her nose?
Yuck
-
ignorant?
here\'s how lame protests work
people (that have nothing else to do) stand around and shout stupid slogans thinking they will make a change (they wont)
they do something that isnt quite illegal, but not tolerable (block traffic, be loud and obnoxious, etc.)
they are told to disperse.
they dont (WHICH IS ILLEGAL)
the cops attempt to break the crowd up
a few people feel they are above being told to leave
the cops get forcefull
protest is ended
the people in that protest were purposely blocking supply lines, THAT is ignorance. the cops have a job to do just like anyone else
they should have stood on the sidewalks of the street and held up signs like the rest of the sheep
-
This probably needs to be moved .
But yea, I dont agree with that picture, then again, I have no idea what she could have done.
-
she probably spit in a cops face
protestors love to do that, and then cry that they dont understand how they got beat on
-
Id agree to the beating then. You just dont spit in anyones face.
-
I don\'t think you should move the picture... it just looks like she has a jawbreaker in her mouth (no pun intended). As for what mm said, I agree.

It sounds to me like what you\'re saying is:
1. Protestors are always wrong.
2. The status quo / powers that be are always right.
3. Every news report we read about a protest is always 100% correct, and if protestors were beaten, it was their own fault.
4. Cops always behave responsibly when dealing with protestors, and never use excessive force.
5. Protests can never change the world.
If our country were named "Fantasyland," I\'d agree with you.
BTW, I\'m glad you\'re not a cop.
-
What a nice democracy you have,
-
What does having a democracy have to do with Police using force against protesters?
If you meant "What a nice bill of rights you have" which Im going to assume you meant, for your sake, then I would just like to point out that there is a point when Protesting crosses over into law breaking. If she was protesting and not breaking the law, nothing would have happend.
-
Oh yeah and your homeland spawned a guy nicknamed "The Hammer of the Turks".
-
Haha, mm\'s turned into one of those video game playing oldies who always yell stuff out to "hippies" walking past his porch. :)
-
I think he\'s turned into a die hard patriot that has been whipped into the frenzy of war and Nationalism by his president.
:)
-
damn hippies

Can you inform me more on this?
BTW:You ve got to see me debating against my homeland and my governments actions.I oppose to many Cypriots.I dont indentify myself with any nationality or government.
-
I just got married to an "ex hippie" last saturday, and she explained a lot to me about why she always felt so compelled to go protest against things. She finally realized that protests do nothing constructive or helpful at all. Many times protestors turn towards violence and breaking the law to make their point.
But I believe in everyones right to protest if they like. As long has it dosen\'t cause problems for others not involved in their cause (most protests are very problematic to the surrounding community). Police don\'t have the right to beat people down just because they are protesting. Arrest them for breaking the law, or if a cop is getting attacked he should defend himself anyway he sees fit.

I agree with mm with everything he said. They didn\'t disperse and were jeapordizing lives, they got what they deserved. They can\'t block shipping lines. They are jeapordizing peoples lives and especially the troops in Iraq by not getting their vital supplies.

And its not the Cypriots that are calling their country "the best country in the world" LOL
Hey I can use that way of thinking:
American:There is no democracy in your country. We must bomb it to bring peace and democracy.
Iraqi:Oh yeah as if yours is the best country in the world!
BUSH:GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
An accidental everyday citizen being interviewed:Ofcourse I am not against this war.Saddam is EVIL.We must bring his regime down and offer democracy(probably he doesnt know his own government used to support Saddam) and prosperity(forgets the embargo) to the people in Iraq. And I am glad there are people in this country that can protest freely in the streets because we live in a democratic country, which is the best country in the whole world and everybody can speak their mind.God bless America.
(Moments later the same channel shows the police arresting protesters and beating them up without any obvious reason.Even Nobel awarded personalities and priests are arrested).:D
-
don\'t get me wrong
i\'m all about democracy, freedom of speech and being able to protest.
BUT, protesting to me IS NOT standing in the street blocking traffic, verbally abusing law enforcement, throwing stones, and generally being uncivil
there was a protest in my very own city a few weeks ago, some 400 people (mostly college students suffering from identity crisis).
same thing happened: they blocked traffic, they threw bricks at cop cars, they walked ON people\'s cars in traffic, they had alcoholic beverages, etc..
they thought they with safe in thier "mob mentality",
coredweller, i would make a great cop. i would put a stop to a protest WAY before it got violent.
clowd, if you call me a "die-hard patriot" again, i swear i will never be so insulted in all my life
oh, and which country is cyprus buried behind again?

Well thats my whole point. I\'m not bashing Cyprus so why bash America? A lot of Americans feel this isn\'t the best country. I dont\' think we are the best country. We are the strongest and best militarily but not America isn\'t a bed of roses. It seems to me that you are attacking America because its not perfect but I could do the same to Cyprus, but I don\'t go that low (except with France ;) )

I am against this kind of protests too to tell the truth. The example I mentioned though didnt have any similar incidents.
In Cyprus I ve protested with many poeple but then a few stupid beings called "humans" ruined the whole peaceful image of the protest after they started throwing stones:mad: to the police.
oh, and which country is cyprus buried behind again?
Which?

Protestors arent the smartest people.....over all the years of protsests i have not heard of one that had a major or even medioker impact on anything significant.
After all of that havent they noticed that all they do is end up causing violence? There pointless the government isnt going to risk having Iraq kill innocent people over a few hundred thousand people.
-
In Genova 2 years ago.G9.
I hope that rings a bell.
-
It is pretty funny. They think they are doing such great things but they actually become an huge annoyance, for that they get bitch slapped when they become 3 year olds and say No to everything the cops say.
I think I\'m going to avoid this forum from now on since all I see spam from people like that.

Besides of course the civil rights protests. I\'m sure you didnt forget about those.
-
i would classify those as rallies, not protests
i would like to put MLK in a better place that that
he was fighting for something, not against something
-
mm im sorry but that makes no sense, of course he was fighting against something, he was fighting against the ammount of social segregation this country had....
All protesters are fighting "For" something, and they are also fighting "Against" something....
-
i dun see it that way
MLK wasnt fighing against "white opression"
he was fighting for "black liberation"
-
A rally is where people congregate to applaud the status quo. You know, like the Nuremburg rallies in Germany in the 1940s....
Martin Luther King\'s civil rights demonstrations were PROTESTS. I guess the police were justified in beating up protestors in that case also? Let\'s not forget their use of firehoses, which someone else applauded earlier in this thread. But then that doesn\'t fit your argument, so it must be different somehow, right?
Just take it easy with the generalizations about protestors.
-
no it fits
people got unruly, and beating commenced
A rally is where people congregate to applaud the status quo.
thats an interpretation.
from encarta : a large meeting or gathering of people, usually organized by a movement or political party and intended to inspire and generate enthusiasm among those present
if MLK condemned the whites for thier behavior, do you think that would create enthusiasm?
and we shouldnt be comparing what the great MLK did to protestors today. people these days have different motives
people protest today to make up for thier weak self motivation and self empowerment. they feel they need a group of people around them if they might make a change in the world
its pathetic
