Title: New Playstation Model
Post by: Zeric on April 14, 2003, 05:28:28 AM
May 15 this year Japan will release a new PS2 model.
This is what is new.

- reading of Dvd-r, RW, +R, +RW
- the support of the progressive-scan DVD
- reception of the integrated remote control
- the possibility of lighting, of extinguishing the console and of opening, of closing the reader thanks to the remote control
- the IEEE-1394 port will not be available any more
- 30% of noise in less

Don\'t know if it\'s true, if it is I don\'t think I will get this one.

It\'s strange Sony allows those recordable formats in the model....

Then maybe it\'s a coinsidance that the new Sony DVD burners can also burn DVD-R, RW, +R, +RWs?

Then again, it\'s probably a late aprils fool. GT3 is the top Sony 1st party game - is there any one in here who believes Sony would just forget about the i-link?! Me thinks not.

Gawd, i hate that smiley. but i was implying that sony have been so uptight about software piracy, so why would they be making it easier to play pirated games on the PS2.

Surely It wont make it easier at all. All official games have a \'code\' that the unit reads when it boots up a disc. Pirated games do not contain this \'code\' so they dont work. Simple as that. The kind of discs the ps2 reads should make no difference how easy, or difficult it is to play pirated software

Hmmm.... sounds pretty lame to me. If the price is the same then so be it but if it is raised then whats the point? It will just end up being a dvd player for piraters, nothing else. PS2\'s are not that loud anyway, and taking out the firewire type port wont help much (eventhough it isnt used so often anyway). Remotes? Blah, who needs them when you can use a control, or even a cordless control for those lazy japanese folk.  $#!tty if u ask me :burn:

bullshit. if sony ever released a new version of the PS 2, it would just be a smaller and more affordable version which would be technically the same or contain a little less components a la the PSone.

The SCPH-50000 will not have IEEE 1394 support, but it will have 30 percent less fan noise than previous models, as well as an infrared sensor built in to accommodate a new remote control that Sony is releasing. Along with all the abilities that the previous remote controls had, the new remote control model, SCPH-10420, will have the ability to turn the machine\'s power on and off, reset the machine, and open the disc tray.

this is the best idea ever, i hate getting up from my comfortable chair to turn off the ps2 (lol).

Don\'t use the lens cleaner disks.  That could do more damage then anything.  Open it up, clean the lens manually.  If that doesnt work, adjust the power on the laser.  You can find some pictures and tutorials on the web.  I had the same problem.  I opened it up and there wasnt a single particle of dust to see.

there is a little dial on the mainboard, you have to completely take apart the playstation.  NOTE:  you can only adjust this if you have the Playstation that has 10 screws in the bottom.  If you have the playstation with 8 screws, your.... well screwed :)
