Come here to discuss the NBA playoffs, and how the Lakers will be destroyed by the Kings.

Wow, it\'s been a year since the last NBA Playoffers thread? I agree, if the Kings and Lakers meet up, the Kings will dismantle them.

GO DALLAS!

Celtics one of few teams playing decent right now.  Seeds are meaningless in the east...

Go Celts!

I love it! Kings fans already forgot last year\'s arse-kickin? Man, no respect for the Lakers. It\'s funny, my girlfriend is a pretty big Kings fan herself, should be alot of tension. I mean, I love her, but I feel so bad that her team is gonna get steamrolled by the Lakers, again, year after year.

uhmm..guess you weren\'t actually watching the last 2 years b/c if you were, you would know the kings didnt get their asses kicked nor did they get steamrolled.

Try again.

Last year the series was surprisingly close, however years prior to that the Lakers didn\'t have much trouble sending the Kings packing.

Ok, maybe our definitions of "steam-rolled or ass-kicking" are different. Fact of the matter is, is that the Lakers have 3 rings, and the Kings have 3 flights home, courtesy of the Lakers. You don\'t get a cookie for getting "close" to beating the champs.

Last season: LAKERS WIN 4-3 (Western Finals)
00\' - 01\' : LAKERS SWEEP KINGS 4-0
99\' - 00\' : LAKERS WIN 3-2 (First Round)
==================================
Lakers lead playoff history (11-5)

spew those stats.....
the games were clsoe, hence the not steamrolled comment.

Bulls had 3 in a row..celtics did too...funny they came to an end too.

Vivi be talking smack about the Suns by PM.

The glove is thrown down, waiting for a response.  :)

I don\'t make predictions about what they\'re going to do, but I feel more confident in this team than I have in years.

I can GUARANTEE you though, that the Lakers will not 4-Peat.

as for Kings being steemrolled?  If it weren\'t for the debocle in game 6, with the refs screwing opver the Kings, the Kings would have won the series.  Game 7 they blew all by their selves.

I like the mavs and would love seeing them destroy the lakers.... but it\'s not gonna happen. I say the best team against the Lakers would definately be the Spurs. Spurs beat them 4-0 this season, but Lakers only show their colors during the playoffs.

Coredweller, you see how everyone else is saying Spurs will be the sundrops? Get ready to pay up.

Before I make my predictions, I must hereby declare that the NBA is trash, and I only watch it out if pure boredom, simply because all of the players are pompous ****s, including Shaq, who has turned into what once was a Traveling Center who was halfway good, but now a Traveling Crybaby.

Basically, my predictions are everything that Tony said, except for the fact that Indiana will beat NO, and, one of the bigger predictions...

Dallas in 7 over the Lakers. Fresh German Hops, my friends.

See Yuz.

If Minnesota and Portland both win (most likely they will, Wolves get Grizzlies and Blazers get the Clippers tonight), LA gets Dallas in the first round.

Lakers go home in 3. :D:nerd:

Oh my gosh... Dallas sucks guys. Lakers have met them 4 times, and have won 3 of those meetings... 3 in a row as a matter of fact.

Lakers will take that in 4. Dallas has NO dominating presence down low that can even stir Shaq.

Screw Dallas.

I gotta agree with Vapor, except mavs don\'t suck.

Right now its halftime and Mavs are leading 45 to 41. But that truely sucks since Duncan AND Jackson are injured.

EAST

Detroit - Milwaukee - Despite not having Ben Wallace, Pistons win it in 6.

Indiana - New Orleans - New Orleans playing well going into playoffs, Indiana is not, Hornets in 7.

Philadelphia - Boston - Aside from my bias, Boston is on a winning streak heading into the playoffs but not playing that great, Boston also turns it up come playoff time.  Boston in 6.

New Jersey - Orlando - Neither team playing great, New Jersey in 7.

Either Pistons or Pacers out of the east

Either Lakers or Kings our of the west

Well, since the Pacers aren\'t playing the Hornets, you\'re all wrong.  :)  The Pacers play the Celtics in the first round because the Pacers are now the 3rd seed after beating NJ tonight, setting up a good 2nd round matchup if Indy and NJ both prevail.

Im gonna say Pacers vs. Kings in the finals, Kings in 6.

True, Keon Clark isn\'t "the answer".  Because the Kings don\'t need an answer.  They were 0wning the Lakers last year  until game six, where even the biggest of Laker fan boys admitted that the kings got raped by the refs.  The Lakers are not unbeatable, like they were 2 years ago.  Teams don\'t need an answer to Shaw any more, because teams like Sac, San Antonio, and Dallas have become better and have evened out the playing field.

Well, when you score 1 FG in 8 minutes, you don\'t deserve to win.  I thought Pierce got away with a few calls, but whatever.  21/21 FTs...um...wow.

The Suns beat the Spurs in OT after Amare Stoudemire hit a 3 to force overtime, then a last second 3 by Marbury to win 96-95...whew.

Stephon=one lucky mofo

I couldn\'t believe that went in, the only thing more surprising was the shot that sent it into OT.

Now for my kings....  I knew this was going to be a tough series.  No team in the league gives the Kings more trouble, than the damn Jazz.  With their slow down offense, they just give the Kings fits.  Luckily we can still beat them, but it frustrating non-the-less.

Oh man, what\'s it going to take for you to revise your image of the Suns?     Suns win season series vs. Spurs 3-1, Suns take them to OT and beat them in game 1, ... it\'s completely illogical to say that Spurs will win 4 straight!  Have you watched any Spurs games this season?  Their regular season record is meaningless.  The Spurs ALWAYS find a way to blow it when it really matters.  First round elimination is totally in keeping with their style over the last few years.  Also don\'t forget that David Robinson probably won\'t be playing tonight, and Kevin Willis is suspended for throwing an elbow at Scott Williams.  This series is going to keep getting dirtier as the Suns keep winning, and the Spurs express their frustration.  Believe it people.  :D

Core, I like the Suns and I hope they win the series.  However, I think that game was a surprise to the Spurs, and they\'ll turn up their intensity now.
Title: ~Official NBA playoffs thread~
Post by: SwifDi on April 21, 2003, 03:54:19 PM
Yeah, but they won\'t take four in a row. They aren\'t that kind of team that "intensifies". I\'m sorry, but Tim Duncan is not this season\'s MVP. The guy has no emotion, and lacks any ability to fire his team up, hence the lack of intensity. That MVP award should go to Mr. Kobe Bryant, hands down.

All I want is another Lakers / Kings series. Last year was by far the best year for the Lakers because no one believed in them, and they proved the skeptics wrong. This year will be twice as sweet for the Lakers because everyone has forgotten that they are the reigning champs and can only say, "BEAT L.A. ; LAKERS SUCK ; etc."

Four-peat.

Throw those seeds aside, regular season record means jack squat, if I could re-seed according to true talent in the playoffs, Lakers would get either the number one or two spot.

kings dominated the Jazz, without C-Webb.  Looks like all hope for the Jazz is gone, because the Kings have started playing playoff ball.

And like I thought, the Spurs took out the Suns, but it was alot closer than I thought it\'d be.

The biggest surprise of the Night, was the first time in years, a Playoff game went untelevised in my area.  The Celt Vs Pacers game wasn\'t on any major channel, I can\'t remember the last time a playoff game wasn\'t on ABC, NBC, TNT, ESPN, or TBS

Gosh, the Jazz really stunk up the court last night. They matchup so poorly with the Kings it\'s ridiculous. The Kings will sweep them easily. Man, Stojakovic is the man though. I have to give him props, every time the Jazz tried to make a run, he\'d drop a huge 3-ball right on their faces.

Uh-oh!  Uh-oh!  What\'s that?  2-1 Timberwolves?

They win after some of the worst calls I\'ve ever seen against them, and after losing Garnett for overtime.  Talk about heart.  What a game by this whole team.

Ah, shucks. Well I\'ll be the first to say that we didn\'t even deserve to take it into OT, but we blew our free throws. No Kevin Garnett either, geez... Should have taken those open chances.

Down 2-1... Lakers reign could possibly come to an end. I think the next game is the deciding one. If the Lakers don\'t make a run, then their championship days are over.

Go practice your stinking free throws!

p.s. Man, I was thinking. If the Lakers get knocked off by the Wolves, and the Kings end up taking the championship. I think the Kings will be disappointed not to get that revenge they want so much. Hah.

If the Lakers fall, I\'m definately gonna be the TWolves newest fan. Great team to watch.

Wolves > Kings

Garnett > Webber

Eat it. :D

that\'s just sad if you believe that.  The Wolves are good, but I know that the Kings would trample them.  KG and Cwebb would cancel eachother out, Bibby would desimate Hudson, Peja would out score Wally by atleast 10 every game.  Vlade would probably just stay even with Jackson and the Kings bench would absolutly slaughter Minnesota\'s.  Doesn\'t matter though, because the Lakers will still win, but even if they didn\'t the Spurs would beat the Twolves before they got to the Western Finals.

Damn, I had to leave to watch The Real Cancun with my gf (movie sucked, but I liked the boobies! :D ) right after Kobe nailed the free throw to complete the four point play.

Kings > Wolves.... Hands down.

I won\'t argue that the Wolves are better than the Kings, however you have a few things wrong here.

1. Garnett is better than Webber.  Easily.  It\'s not even close.  Don\'t say they\'d cancel out.

2. Bibby will not necessarily desimate Hudson.  Hudson has played better so far in the playoffs this year against a better team.

3. Peja will not outscore Wally by 10 a game.  Wally and Peja average about the same number of points, so I don\'t know where you\'re getting that from

I\'m not saying the Wolves will win, but it will be no cake walk for the Kings.  Look at what the Wolves are doing to the Lakers.  They know how to beat more talented teams, they\'ve been doing it all year.  It will be a lot closer than you think, if this series happens.

Are you guys THAT sure that the wolves will beat the spurs?!
Title: ~Official NBA playoffs thread~
Post by: theomen on April 25, 2003, 02:26:41 PM
I\'ll clarify why I said what I said.

Webber Vs KG
Kevin is the biggest Offensive option on Min, thus will be doubled every time he touches the ball.  While he\'ll get his points, and boards, the constant doubling on him will even out the playing field between him and Cwebb.  Also during the season here\'s the stats these two had;
Cwebb: 23 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.58 steals, 1.31 blocks
KG: 23ppg, 13.4 rpg, 6 apg, 1.38 steals, 1.57 blocks
not a big difference

Bibby vs Hudson
True Hudson has played well thus far, but no one can expect him to keep up this performance throughout the playoffs.  I also shouldhave put Bibby/Jackson vs Hudson/their other PG, because the Bibby Jackson PG by comitee scores over 30 a game.

And Peja vs Wally
Have you watched the playoffs? ;)  Peja can straight up play in the big games now, while Wally is still failing to produce in the NBA\'s second season.

Lakers vs Spurs, this will be a tough series.  If the Lakers play like they did tonight, they\'ll win the series, but if not they\'ll be in for an ass whoop\'n.  They can\'t sleep on the Spurs.

Post by: Coredweller on May 01, 2003, 10:45:19 PM
I think this whole situation is just a little too convenient for the Lakers.  They get to take on the weak-ass Spurs in an easy skate to the Western Conference Finals, and meanwhile the Mavs and Kings have to beat the crap out of each other.

The NBA playoffs are fixed, at least as far as the Lakers are concerned.  I\'m not talking about the Suns series.  That was their own fault, but of course I never predicted they would win anyway.  I\'m pleased with what they accomplished this season.

Title: ~Official NBA playoffs thread~
Post by: Coredweller on May 01, 2003, 10:58:37 PM
Isn\'t it the Lakers who always say the regular season is meaningless?  Anyway it\'s very true.

:)  Didn\'t you watch the series that just ended?  The 8th seed beat them twice, and came very close to beating them two other times.  Rear Admiral is fragile and has no heart.  Rose and Bowen have no flexibility.  The only impressive players are Tony Parker and Tim Duncan.  Duncan can be contained, and he\'s slow.  The only real threat is Parker.

The Suns are good, but they\'re not ready yet.  Any team with more experience should have no trouble whatsoever with the Spurs.  You can count on the Spurs to defeat themselves.
Title: ~Official NBA playoffs thread~
Post by: theomen on May 02, 2003, 12:02:52 AM
Quite frankly I think that the Kings have it easier against the Mavs, than the Lakers have it against the Spurs.  The lakers and spurs will beat the snot out of eachother, while many analysts think the Kings will manage to beat the Mavs in a less physially demanding fashion.

Also if you look at the regular season record, the Spurs went 4-0 against the Lakers.  While the reg season doesn\'t mean much, it does show that the Spurs match up well against the Lake Show.

One thing is for sure, both series will be a joy to watch.  To quote the Kings announcer Grant Napear, "If you don\'t like that, you don\'t like NBA basketball"

Personally I think after game 3, they stopped taking bong hits at half time, and that is way it is 3 and 3....

Go Blazers!

ROUND 2 PREDICTIONS:

Detroit Pistons vs. Philadelphia 76\'ers - Sorry Detroit, you just got by Orlando, don\'t expect Philadelphia to be any easier, this round your out.  Philly in 6.

Boston Celtics vs. New Jersey Nets - Talk about a team with Playoff experience, the Celtics know how to get it done.  While the Nets hobbled into the playoffs, they turned it around quickly to post a series win over the Bucks.  Both teams had impressive wins in their last games, but the Celtics are just going to score more points.  Celtics in 7.

San Antonio Spurs vs. LA Lakers - We head out West where during the regular season the Spurs swept the Lakers, twice without Shaq, and twice with.  Talk about a good matchup for the Spurs, they get their series done quickly.  Spurs in 5.

Sacramento vs. Dallas - If Dallas\'s last series has shown me anything, its that they can\'t go the distance.  Sacramento is simply unbelievable.  Kings in 6.

George gets hurt. Hmm... Lakers just seem to be exhausted and out of gas. I mean 3 straight championships, and now they\'re barely hanging on. I\'m not gonna say they\'re finished, but I\'m not too optimistic about these playoffs. If George\'s injury is serious, that really hurts the Lakers because they don\'t have much depth at that position.
Title: ~Official NBA playoffs thread~
Post by: Coredweller on May 05, 2003, 11:30:13 PM
hah hah haaaahhhhh.  An injury to a scrub like Devean George is the least of the Lakers problems.  When the game starts falling apart, Bryant hogs the ball and decides he\'s going to carry the team on his back (as usual), Horry gets frustrated and swats Robinson in the nuts, O\'Neal fouls out and looks like his fat ass is going to collapse.  Such pure Laker style.

Your team is doomed.  I didn\'t think it was possible for the weak Spurs to beat them, but now it\'s looking like the Lakers are even weaker.  I might actually enjoy this series.  :)

Same talk I heard when the Wolves were up 2-1.

If you think that the Spurs winning by a mere score of 87-82, with all those factors against the Lakers you listed, I would be worried.

Lakers were cold, they\'ll come roaring back.

THE spurs sucked, they will not beat the lakers. I would rather see a team like dallas win who has way more talent.  I hate the twin towers david and tim suck. Tim gets MVp becuase the league is to bias to give it to garnette.  Last year Kid should have got MVP.

Lakers got no fouls kobe got fouled so many times and nothing was called. A game where there is a 35-12 free throw difference who do you think would win. And even with that they only beat the lakers buy 5 and everyone think the spurs got game.

Worst point ever.

Spurs are missing free throws and still won.

You want to talk about fouls? How about Robinsons nuts being slapped and Tim Duncan\'s eye being SLAPPED by KB. wtf? sore losers

What the Lakers must fear is the fact that Spurs are the best road team in the league, spurs have been missing free throws (which can change at ease) and Duncan not even shooting 50%.

Face it, Lakers are done for.

lol...man you\'re stupid.

How can the Spurs suck? They finished with the best record in the regular season while 0wning the Lakers in the season series 4-0. Too biased to give it to Garnett? I think Garnett should have won too, but how the hell was it a biased decision?

Out of Kobe\'s 38 shots in game 1, 33 were jumpshots. Not gonna get many called fouls on jumpshots, pal.

And what happened in Game 2 when the Lakers got the slight advantage in fouls called, and still were down by 30 before garbage time.

All I can say is that Kobe is still the Man. The Purs had more goto guys than the lakers.  Shaq and kobe just couldn\'t do it all bye themselves this time. Fisher is so sad as a point guard. Parker just owned him tonite.

Fisher cried for what? He let parker walk all over him fisher is sad. Phill has one more year left and I bet he is gone after next season. Shaq is gone once phill leaves and Kobe did not sign a extension.

I won\'t watch the rest of the playoffs unless it is the east(detroit).

The Queens are no good without there queen B webber. If webber was here I would say the Queens are champs.  I\'m rooting for the Mavs I hate Duncon and Robinson I don\'t want them to win nothing.

Today is a great day of joy in the land.  The worthless Lakers take a much needed vacation.  :p

Let\'s face it, it was inevitable.  The Lakers have been badly mismanaged lately.  They have two championship-caliber players, and almost the entire rest of their team are SCRUBS.  Two players do not make a championship team.  The Spurs, Mavs and Kings have all been successful because they have a deep cast of qualified players.

Meanwhile, Phil Jackson puts Devean George, Jannero Pargo, Kareem Rush, Slava Medvedenko, and Mark Madsen on the floor.  WTF?  These guys are barely qualified to operate the equipment locker.  They should NOT EVEN BE ON THE FLOOR in a playoff elimination game.  The Spurs have Steve Kerr on their roster, and they don\'t even use him!  If he were with the Lakers, he would probably be getting 18 minutes per game.

If I were a Laker fan, I would feel deeply cheated at the way the Lakers organization has been focusing on marketing, showboating, slam dunking, and overpaying Bryant and O\'Neill at the expense of building a viable, reliable TEAM for long term success.  Who knows?  Maybe after three consecutive championships, none of that matters anymore.  What else is there to work toward?  If I were a Laker fan I would have died of boredom long ago.

To me it is really sad that the spurs dont really use steve kerr. the hurricane misses the rim and hit\'s someone in the cheap seats

Every single great team in history has had their go to guy.  The Bulls with Jordan, The Celtics with Bird or earlier with Russel, the Lakers with Shaq.  None of these teams would have done what they did without their leaders.  Sure the supporting cast can help them beat the average team, but when teams are so evenly matched in the playoffs, it\'s the superstars who make the difference.  Hurricane, your point is moot.

West coast basketball fans are non-existant anyway, they just seem to pop up whenever the lakers are around.  But it seems as if now that no west coast team is in it anymore, basketball now "sucks".

I garuntee you SER, dallas will NOT get a game 7. Spurs have a tendency to learn from losing games, and you will be eating those words.

You\'re just taking a shot in the dark here... however I agree with regard to Laker fans and Warriors fans, two species I know all too well.  Clipper fans are very rare freaks of nature, but MOST Sacramento fans are extremely rabid and loyal.  Your claim doesn\'t hold for them, or Sonics / Blazers fans as far as I can tell.

WTF is wrong with it anyway?  It\'s normal for a TRUE fan to get bored with the playoffs after their team is eliminated.  There are two forces that drive my interest in the NBA.  HATE and LOVE.  Between these two, the stronger is hatred.  :)  I watch the Suns because I love that team, and I continue watching the playoffs because I enjoy seeing teams I hate get eliminated.  This has been a good year for that, and I hope it continues.  :D

Gotta agree with The Hurricane here, oh and the lakers suck!  Woohoo, its better to see them lose than seeing my fav team win. (though I don\'t have a fav team :))

the argument isn\'t about Western fans, it was about whether or not a team needs it\'s superstar, inorder to win in the playoffs.  That\'s why I called Hurrican a drug fiend.

Actually what he\'s arguing about a few pages back.....And a very good point he makes. How you all said the playoffs suck and you aren\'t going to watch because of your team losing. :D

Spurs look like they\'re going to win next year too. They have a lot of money to spend on incoming player, and even more since Robinson retired.
